Are opals on ebay fake?

Spoiler alert, it was a fake. But I knew that already. Do your homework and know what you're buying. The best way to protect yourself from fake opals is to be able to recognize what lab created opal looks like.

"Ships from India" says it all. Don't buy anything gemstone related from there. Notice how the one real opal was coming from Thailand and everything else on the search results page was shipping from India.

You know, I don't fear Lab (chemechally an Opal) or simulated (not Opal at all). Because they are easily identifiable with simple and basic knowledge.
I fear undisclosed treatments of natural Opals. Doublelts and all types of enhancements are extremely difficult to distinguish online. That's the real nightmare.

at least with a doublet you can easily figure it out once you have it in hand... I've found that a good seller will usually also post side and back pictures of their stones.
