    I really like the intro voice over before you get to contemporary comments on the journey. Mid-vid voice over providing more information is also quite nice.

    I used to live next to this when I was a kid. The first tunnel under the road half way up where there is a small concrete tunnel. We used to crawl up that and the water stops. It then turns to a snake like slippy old small brick tunnel you can crawl up. It takes you to the main server under the road as an overflow. We used to put lights in and use old road signs and slide down it. Was pretty cool at the time. The other tunnel we used to call the thunder tunnel. I never got as close as you did though. Strange how there was light coming from the other bit. You should come in from the other side, be interesting. Great video. 😊

      Hi mark. wow really? is the sewer big? i knew it was a CSO but never went up it, no chesties today! the outfall to that other culvert comes out in a horrible area basically bang next to the wwtw, and its supposedly very deep! maybe a dingy?

      It wasn’t really big no, was the old style oval shaped you used to get and seems to run down Foxdenton lane and overflow down that. It was a good 30 years ago but looks all the same apart from the clogged up bit. The grate never used to be there and you could step straight into the tunnel and run down it. The deep bit in the thunder tunnel was really interesting, would love to know where that higher bit tunnel goes and where the light was coming from.

      @@MrMark00024 that deep bit with the light is some inspection chamber you can see from ground level, maybe i should turn with a plank 😁

    What with Liam mentioning how slippy it was and that reveal around the corner reminding me of when I watched Martin's video of this place, it's a good thing you stayed well back from that outfall. Should be a safety railing or something given the culvert is so accessible. It's so easy to go from "Everything is fine" to "I'm drowning"... Best to listen to the little voice in your head warning you to keep well back, go the long way round, trust each foothold and handhold to 100%. I've carried out work with mills and lathes where I think I can shave a few seconds off a job and then decide I'd rather keep my fingers. All the worse when you hear the workshop tales of master machinists with years on the job losing concentration for a second and living with the consequences forever.

      Hi, thanks for the comment. Yeah my subconscious told me to not even attempt to get past that outfall, knowing my luck it would have probably sped up and id have been washed down to a small open section which is extremely deep! good to see it in low flow however!

    It’s neat to see the old Cantankerous Culvert in a bit more mellow mood! That dark bottomless pool, though, with the steps on the other side, certainly looked ominous. I think it had a rather strange beauty to it too. Best of luck on your upcoming exams, and Shoutout to the random brick! 😄

    7:50 that sound of water rushing like that when you're deep in a drain is absolutely terrifying.

    #tunnelrunning #godifeelold
    Used to crawl up the smaller tunnel on the right in first big tunnel as a kid. Brick lined. Turned left then went upwards. Led to a chamber directly underneath Foxdenton Lane. Water ran in a channel under/along Foxdenton Lane with a manhole cover in the road (be careful sticking your fingers through the holes 😂). Then used to slide back down on a thin red and white roadworks barrier 😁

    Is it possible to get to the other side of that clooged trash screen? If so someone should unblock it Post10 style! Another nice video thanks keep 'em coming.

      hi, we had a go at moving some of the stuff and got the flow going abit more 😄. yes you can get to the other side but i fear that water is full of mud and swamp gases, so best to be inside the culvert while unblocking id say!

    I couldn't do it. I'd have to take something with me to measure how deep that pit was. If I left without knowing it would eat at me every second of my life until I went back and found out.

    • @thedrainmaestro
      @thedrainmaestro  Год назад +2

      its probably about 4-5 meters deep if i had to take a guess, its deep to cushion the water after the cascade so it doesnt rush into the pipe as fast

    Not sure whether you are interested in things of this matter but Thames Water are on the brink of failing and could soon be coming out of privatisation and be renationalised. I have a feeling other water companies like Severn Trent Water could follow in there footsteps over time.
