Storm Babet - River Don/River Loxely In Flood (2023)
Просмотров 17 тыс.Год назад
Here are a few locations on the River Don/River Loxely in Flood after continuous overnight rain from Storm Babet. As of uploading the rain is getting better and levels are slowly dropping. Luckily most of Upper and Middle Don Valley have been unaffected by the Storm but many levels were close to bursting and some small brooks have burst their banks. River Porter has completely flooded Endcliffe...

In todays video, I show you around the Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve. We will focus mainly on the brook, showing a few of its many culverts as we go. I will discuss the impact it has had on the nature reserve over the past 200 years or even more! I explain what impact it has also had on the environment over and what an ecological fail this brook has been due to the many storm drain connecti...

Hi everyone. In todays video we take a brief look at the Corn Brook as it passes under Pomona Island to join with the Manchester Ship Canal. We take a look at where it emerges from a 6km culvert, through a small open section and through Brindleys Weir, a strange contraption which acts as a sump to bring the Corn Brook under the BridgeWater Canal and under Pomona Island towards the Manchester Sh...

Cracker of a video mate 😎😊
Wy have you stopped uploading? At this moment it has been a year since your last video!
Hey mate are you uploading soon?
Hello! I am hoping to get something done soon yes. College has been extremely busy as of recent, and weather has not been on my side, however hopefully in Summer ill get something filmed and uploaded.
Have you ever done anything that didn’t make you come across as a complete and utter bellend?
Bit overdramatic to say about 11 year old me dont you think? 😂😂
Brill & thanks!
Im glad you enjoyed!
Me again, I have a model of a Birley Colliery wagon upstairs somewhere. Can a photo of it be uploaded in these comments?
I dont think you are able to, but if you want to email me the photo my email is: realmrwowzer@gmail.com
Excellent video, most informative and good history research included as well, so well done. I look forward to watching other videos that you have done. Keep up the good work!
#tunnelrunning #godifeelold Used to crawl up the smaller tunnel on the right in first big tunnel as a kid. Brick lined. Turned left then went upwards. Led to a chamber directly underneath Foxdenton Lane. Water ran in a channel under/along Foxdenton Lane with a manhole cover in the road (be careful sticking your fingers through the holes 😂). Then used to slide back down on a thin red and white roadworks barrier 😁
I was very curious about that tunnel haha, return visit maybe 😂
Brilliant & thanks! Only just found you via Martin's channel. We used to live in Sheffield and had friends up in Crookes. They used to hear water running in their kitchen and thought it was a leak of some kind. They had their kitchen floor taken up and discovered that the house had been built straight over a stream that had been left running under it since it was built. I assume that many of the houses on the hills around Sheffield would find the same!
Hahaha yeah I have a sump in my cellar which pumps a stream out at least once a day, gets quite scary when it rains heavy lol 😂
I need more british drains and Aphex Twin, thankyou Marcus
😄👍
nice
36:22 My personal guess would be there used to be a rail yard for the nearby Woodhouse station
New York State here. Air planes almost always target dams and reservoirs to flood as NJ d deprive the so called enemies of everything. Problem with the bombing was they were highly inaccurate especially if theres cloudy skies even miles off a target.
Since we lack in any culverts / drains down south, it's a real pleasure to watch your videos!
im sure there are loads, they just havent been found yet 😄 glad you enjoyed!
A marvellous montage from the maestro 👍
Cheerz 👍😁
thanks for shareing
Nice one kidda, seya next year in CB. (Nickindroy)
👍😄
Thanks for making & sharing Marcus, great to see all the different areas in one film. I hope you have a fantastic Xmas!! 🎅🎄🎁🎉
Glad you enjoyed it!
As you're not as tall as James and Martin, its easier to walk through low sections.
i am 6ft tall, so low sections are not easier (p.s Martin is abit short 😜 love the guy though!)
Another great video! Thank you for sharing Marcus!
My pleasure!
Good one, me and my claustrophobia really enjoy your videos. 60cm = 2 LP sleeves side by side. You don't crawl through there, do You?😮 I'd be scared of rain, gases and rats, - always Tom Sawyer's and Becky's (mis)adventure in the cave in mind.
wont be crawling through that no! a mate of mine did it a few years back, he said it was horrendous, but he persisted 😄 cheers for the comment mate 👍
Interesting video, good luck with the channel 👍
Sweet, my channel was noise based till I got into drains and doom mapping, cheers.
Love that ppl are 'getting into drains' 😍
goes hard
thank youuu!!!
so grateful to be responsible for 1/3 of this tracklisting amazing set plz keep it up
grateful to have the permission to play yr tracks bro!!
BANGER SET
THANK U!!
YES LETS GO MARCUS
!!!!!
The entrance to the culvert was extended back in the early 90's to make way for landfil. That contributory was once in the open before the A57 got rerouted.
ahh that explains it, thanks!
Sounds great! Shame about the guys chatting... Jungle is massive!
The river Rother (which you may be familiar with) was really bad with flooding over last weekend that it completely engulfed Catcliffe once again. Went down on Monday after the water had gone down and the smell of the mud was absolutely revolting. There was a smell of sewage and damp, and the water rose so high (about 7 foot) that all the cars that were parked up were completely submerged and the interiors wrecked. Some guy was offering to deep clean peoples cars after the floods and I just said that it would be a complete waste of time whether they are written off or not, as you’d never get rid of the sewage smell out of the seats and carpets etc , let alone all the bacteria / viruses that it carries.
weather manipulation side effects. knock on affect of cloud seeding and more.
Thank you for bringing us this very impressive video presentation which is very much appreciated. The power of the rivers are phenomenal, you can see why these rivers had so many mills beside them. It's funny that despite all the talk of using renewable energy that more use is not made of these rivers.
A good honest report with no 'hyp'. Thankyou
Axl Rose
🤨😂
@@thedrainmaestro That's a compliment son Axl was the man back in the day
@@sqwidink1 hahaha i figured it was! yeah hes awesome lol i see the resemblance!
Is this a sheffield culvert?
yes 😄
This one clearly escaped my ventures of exploring, as I am familiar with most culverts in sheffield 😂
@@JohnWebb-xy5je which ones? 😄
Meersbrook, backwood, megatron, porterbrook.. Mainly the local ones I lived near... My educated guess that this has to be Woodhouse/Stradbroke area
@@JohnWebb-xy5je been in all but backwood
Excellent, informative video. Being a local bloke I recognise all of these spots.
Exciting, nothing like a UK storm 😘
i was hoping you'd head up towards the source see how bad the overspill was at loxley reservoir but you barely go past where the don joins loxley
well with the rain planned to get worse it wasnt our first thought
In my city (Aberdeen) up here in Scotland, we have a river called "River Don" and also "River Dee". So you can imagine my confusion when you were showing and talking about the "River Don" but I wasn't recognizing where on (my) river Don this was plus the street/town names and the river Loxely. I'm sitting here like _"EH!! ..Where the fuq along the Don is this"_ while scratching my head. Then I was like _"Hol'up! His accent.. Is there another river Don in England?"_ and here I am.. LOL 😂🤣😂 *DOH!* 🤪
One of the very few things that scares me is the un-bridled power of water when rivers flood. I used to live in a village in Suffolk that had a river flowing through it. The river flooded and the flow rate was such that it eroded the bank under a 100+ year old workshop resulting in the whole building collapsing and being swept away. Scary stuff.
Stay safe Maestro. Wonder about the reservoirs too, they must be full.
hopefully tomorrow morning were gonna check out a reservoir so ill make a video if so!
5:11 If that tree moves, it could get stuck under the bridge and then the force of the water could wash away the bridge.
great footage!! thank you TDM!
Whoa! That is intense!! 😯
Why don't they put water turbines in some of these places and store some energy? At least it could power some street lights or something like that!
things like this would badly damage a water turbine, very good for normal levels but high levels are not so good 😢
I've seen an Archimedean screw turbine in that area (Loxley or Rivelin valley, not sure); nice throwback to ancient engineering; I wonder if it's OK.
@@davidhowe6905 hi i know which youre talking about in the loxley valley last time i saw it it was switched off so not sure whether that was in preparation for the storm or because its not in use anymore
@@thedrainmaestro last time i visited the area they had just finished renovating the weir in lower loxley & the turbine wasnt working then
Well done for getting out and about today for sure!
The power of the water really impressive and worrisome ! Great video again, your really good at that! Congrats !
Wow, incredible and the power on that water. great pics thanks to the Maestro in the moment 👍
I live in Brighouse in W.Yorks and our local river the Calder has flooded the town centre bad news , thanks Marcus for the reactive video
