    Your tutorials are SO HELPFUL. Blending has always been a challenge. Thanks for sharing.

    You are very welcome! I had a lot of fun doing it and wanted to share this with everyone since I am commonly asked how I achieve my blending.

    Thanks for this! It really helps. I'm a watercolourist, so the transition to acrylic was quite challenging. I'll get the glazing liquid as you suggested. :)

    Thanks so much for this vid! Using acrylics on wood (yes i know its very different from paper) Having such a hard time figuring out how to blend wet paint with layers that have already set.

      You are very welcome! Justin will often have over 20 layers of paint to achieve really smooth blends. He does this by mixing a generous amount of acrylic glazing liquid with his paint and applying thin layers on top of dry layers. I hope this helps!

    I work with acrylics a lot and I DID notice how the dry time was much quicker so I had to be quick with my wet-on-wt blending. I was wondering, though, would any difference be made if the canvas itself was just a bit damp before the actual blending or painting is started? Not like saturated-wet damp, but just a light brush over of water over the top of the canvas surface?

      +TsukiyoTenshi Dampening the canvas before you start trying to blend wet on wet will certainly help it from drying out too quickly. The canvas and gesso can absorb a good deal of moisture from the paint and reduce the time it takes to dry.

    Is it a good idea to frequently dip brush in water while blending so it doesn't become dry? I hv never painted before. Planning to try my hands on painting though!

    Do you have to use the gloss? I could get it but it would take me a while. Im just learning to paint and blend paints so?

    • @LastingImpressionArt
      @LastingImpressionArt  10 лет назад

      Yep! Both gloss and satin work for this blending technique since they will both thin the paint and allow the paint to dry slower. Choosing between the two depends on how shiny you want the finished piece to be, but you can always use a matte, satin, or gloss varnish at the end to get the desired glossiness.

      Lasting Impression Art Hello. I was wondering if you have any tutorials on how to do color glazing after doing an underpainting. Do you add a medium to the acrylic paint before applying it to the painting? Thank you.

      Sorry I didn't see your question until now! We currently do not have a video specifically devoted to that, but you can see a little of how it's done about 4 minutes into our Sphere Shading Tutorial. ruclips.net/video/fP4ZdVNg9Qk/видео.html
      The technique is very similar to how Justin blends on top of dry paint in this video. You simply mix your paint with acrylic glazing medium and apply a thin coat on top of your dry painting. You can control the amount of pigment you are applying by how much glazing medium you mix with it.

    Can we use something called floating medium.. i am new to painting... seriously new like gonna paint for the first time. But I heard about medium and purchased something called floating medium because that’s all they had in the craft store at the time and i was too anxious to start painting today..

      Hello Lauren! I did some research since I had never heard of floating medium, and it may or may not help you depending on your painting speed. It will help the paint glide over the surface more easily, but it will not extend the time you can blend the paint. It would be good for adding thin layers on top of a dry painting. If you're looking to blend wet on wet, I would look for a medium that specifically mentions that it is slow drying on the label.
      More important than the type of medium you use is having the courage to experiment and have fun with your art. I understand trying something new can be anxiety provoking, but you will build confidence the more you practice.

    that's might work on large area such sky .. but what about particular small area you need to blend ?

    • @LastingImpressionArt
      @LastingImpressionArt  7 лет назад

      I would say the basics of the techniques still apply to a small area. You would simple make smaller movements, use a smaller brush and less paint. If you needed to be more careful and slow for a detailed area, the wet on dry may be easier as it would give you more time to make controlled movements. If the open time of the paint is the main concern, I added links to acrylic paints and retarders in our blog post linked in the video description that would increase the dry time and allow you to do a wet on wet blend.

    Looks like the so-called wet on wet is essential to this technique with no explanation of what that is. Does that mean you layer water onto the support first?

    • @LastingImpressionArt
      @LastingImpressionArt  10 лет назад +1

      What he is referring to is blending the paint while the paint on the canvas is still wet enough to be workable. Once the paint is too tacky, that technique is no longer an option.

      +Danielle Clark Many arts and crafts stores carry this product. If you cannot find it in your local area, I would suggest online sites like dickblick.com and amazon.com.
