    Hello thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video!
    In this video I am going to show you step by step how to remove your old cable and replace it with a brand new 1/4" 25 foot cable and yes this machine will take a 25 foot cable no problem Ive already used mine multiple times now after changing the cable and it works like a charm. I break down step by step how to take the snake apart and remove the old cable then I go in depth explaining step by step how to install the brand new cable into your Bauer 23 Ft. Auto-Feed Handheld Electric Drain Cleaner.
    I will also explain why I feel the Bauer is potentially the best Prosumer snake on the current market vs the Milwaukee 12v and Milwaukee 18v Fuel Drain cleaners and I personally love Milwaukee tools I was recently converted and now im basically a fanboy but I would still consider the Bauer a better machine when it comes to price vs performance and thats basically how I judge all of my tools.
    The Bauer is currently only $89.99 and the Milwaukee 12v is $250 which is reasonable and a much better drain cleaner than say the Rigid K30 at basically the same price point my dad uses the Milwaukee and he absolutely loves it when he first got it he called me to tell me he found his new favorite top snake which was funny because I had just bought the Bauer so we did some comparisons and I will say for a cordless drain cleaner the Milwaukee appears to be the absolute gold standard best on the market but when comparing it to the Bauer corded drain cleaner I found it to come in a very close second place and one thing I found kindof strange was when I began looking into the Milwaukee cordless drain cleaners I could not find much difference between the 18v Fuel and the 12v So my advice would be to go with the 12v if you already have mostly 12v Milwaukee tools Its over $100 less and appears to be just as powerful as the 18v Fuel when it comes to comparing the specs but and both the 12v and 18v Fuel are better than the Rigid corded k30 machine. So if you were even considering the rigid because I know rigid has a good reputation as the Plumbers power tool I would kindly stear you towards the Milwaukee 12v and if you dont currently have any Milwaukee 12v tools I recently bought the 12v Fuel impact and hammer drill combo and Man ive never been so impressed with a Powertool they are so well made they feel great in the hand and they seem so powerful for a 12v tool it just blew my mind but hey thats for another video lets stick to drain cleaners today!
    Now im not gonna jerk your chain the Bauer is an absolute beast of a machine its awesome in every way as far as a top snake goes and its actually prolonged my decision to buy the Spartan 81 machine which has always been my dream for a 1/4" drain cleaner But is it a professional grade tool for guys doing drains and nothing but drains? probably not but let me elaborate Ive owned the Spartan Drill style top snake And it was a great little machine Its considered a Professional grade top snake and is Built to last years upon years but I would choose the Bauer over it any day of the week and the Bauer is like a quarter of the cost and that brings me to my point on this channel I strive to give you the best most honest information I can as a plumber in the field every day using these tools for years on end Ive gotten to know many of these tools and tool manufacturers inside and out and I will tell you Yes the Spartan drill snake along with many of the other Professional grade drain cleaning companies drill snakes are built much much more sturdy than the Bauer I mean I would be surprised if the Bauer really lasted me a couple years before It started having problems and needed to be replaced I could be wrong but only time will tell however when it needs to be replaced its going to cost no more than its current price point of $89.99 so in 4 years this isnt even considering I buy whatever protection plan Harbor Freight offers but in a worst case scenario If i have to replace it in 2 years that means Ill have still spent less than the 12v Milwaukee. So my point being if you are learning the trade coming up just finished your apprenticeship or are currently and apprentice or even some Journeymen plumbers this is the perfect snake for you because its disposable if it breaks on you its not gonna take a chunk of your paycheck to replace it you dont have to send it away to have it repaired you simply walk into your local Harbor Freight tools grab a box off the shelf and are back in business that very same day. I feel like that alone holds great value because my time is valuable!
    If you liked the video and want to leave me a tip or donate to the channel every dime I receive will be put back into the production of this channel so if you want to see more videos and better production quality this is one way to contribute to making that happen

    Bought one of these this week and used it to unclog my basement drain. It took a while and I'm certain I used most of the 23 feet but it did the job, albeit after I kinked the line. I used a pliers to straighten it but I'll probably buy a replacement cable just in case which I'm happy to see costs around $11 at Harbor Freight. For $100 it beat having to call a plumber especially with the covid thing being a pain in the butt to deal with.

    For those replacing the original OEM cable with the 23ft cable from bauer:
    Its even easier as you dont even need to open the drum. Just turn the lock collar to unlock, pull cable oit until you see the phillips head connector to the motor cable and unscrew the phillips screw, connect new cable and hand tight the connector screw until it is flush. Then hand feed or electric retract feed the cable in the drum. Then you are done.

    Ever have an issue with it not wanting too retract.?
    I just bought this, today. Worked like a CHAMP, with the exception of it not wanting to pull back in very fast. At one point, I pulled the whole cable out and hit reverse. there was very little movement, until i added some gentle force.

    • @PlumbingExplained

    • @wingerrrrrrrrr

      @@PlumbingExplained Well, it went 8 feet, which is then going to go in the main so I stopped. When using the handle to retract, I noticed the cable was broke! Clogs gone though. I've got it apart but I was trying to feed through the handle. The original cable because I still have 13 feet left! But i can't get it to go through the handle. So do I have to remove from canister and feed through the front trigger gun? If I do, then I might as well buy a new cable. I noticed that the cable (visually) is kinked in 2 places which will break any cable or cause a hazard. I think it came that way. Other than the cable, it's one hell of a cable gun! It went through 5 to 6 bends in the first 6 feet without any effort on my part. The plumbing is a hack job from the previous owners.

    • @PlumbingExplained
      @PlumbingExplained  5 лет назад +1

      Greg Simpson so if you just remove the screws that holds the the front half and the back half together with the drumb in between, you simply feed the cable through the end that the cable feeds out of when everything is alright(sorry I’m having a hard time explaining this over text) so feed it through the auto feed you might have to remove the handle for the auto feed(the front grip) and once the cable is through the auto feed throw a 90 degree bend on the very end feed it into the drumb and just keep feeding it then put everything back together and ur good to go. If you need any specific videos on how to break it down let me know I’ll put something together for you.
      Also grab a nice quality cable replacement I found once I put the general cable in this thing not the stock one it became a much much better snake.

    • @gregsimpson621
      @gregsimpson621 5 лет назад

      @@PlumbingExplained Thanks! I was trying to cut the cable without much luck. I will try removing the handle for the auto feed (the front grip) and see if that works, and if does, put the 90 degree bend on the very end feed line. Otherwise I can take out of the drumb and feed it back in the way your video shows when replacing the stock cable with the one you described earlier.
      I took a screen shot of the cable you recommended so that was extremely helpful. And your so right; putting a better quality cable on this puppy will make this one heck of snake! Truly appreciate the responses and feedback!!!

  • @MeaganEater
    @MeaganEater 7 месяцев назад

    I use the tool to send out the cable and then take the tool apart to remove the rest of the cable. After you (by hand) feed in about 3 feet of the new cable, put the tool back together and use the tool to wind the cable back in. Way less manual labor. The tool is designed to feed the cable in and out, so you do not have to do it by hand. 😎Hope This Helps

Original cable broke when I unknowingly spiked it through the side of a rubber coupling and got snagged. Busted it when I reverse -drove it trying to extract it.
    Found the 30 foot 1/4" cable for $20.08 in a open box listing on Amazon so I figured it was a better option than the HF replacement at the same price. I was figuring on cutting it to size, but it coiled up in the drum just fine so I just left it full length for now.

      Sometimes you need to pull back with more force than the auto feed can pull back. Sometimes youve got something on the tip you know could bind up on something on the way back so you want to pull it back by hand, Sometimes you want to know youve pulled back X ammount of feet so you can kindof get a feed of where you are in the drain or in the house, im always kinda closing my eyes and imagining im working my way down the drain I try and imagine where Id be what kindof fitting I could be hitting theres alot of reasons. From my experience you want to buy a quality cable rather than a cable that comes with a cheap machine. Hollow core cable is not going to last long compared to wire core cable. Also a rigid cable or Milwaukee cable does not rust. A rusted cable will means it will get brittle in a few years and snap on you.

    • @PlumbingExplained
      @PlumbingExplained  3 года назад +2

      Great advice man I couldnt say it better myself, I only buy cables with an Inner core these days and Yes you can make a cheap machine a great machine by adding a good cable. I took that Blue harbor freight machine and put a 1/2" inner core spartan cable on it after my 100 machine was stolen and that thing paid for a new 100 machine for me!

    Why are you hand feeding the snake inside the drum, just hand feed the first 2-3 feet and then let the tool feed the rest? like auto feed out and then auto feed to retrieve the snake while trying to unclog the drain? You're selling this item too hard, otherwise, people will question it.

      @PlumbingExplained  5 лет назад +2

      @Eladio Velez Unfortunately not bro I would not recommend using it on a Toilet although a friend of mine recently did it as a joke to me and it worked. He stuck a piece of 1 1/2" ABS with an 1 1/2" ABS 90 on the end and kindof shoved that down into the toilet so the snake didnt flop around and scratch up the porcelain. But honestly just get a toilet auger from home depot or if you have a plumbing supply house near you I definitely recommend getting one there over anywhere else. You want the thicker one that can extend out to 6' I believe the one I have is made by Ridgid. Those are your best bet for clearing toilet clogs that are isolated to just the toilet or in some cases just below the closet flange. Since you have that 6' extension you can get down into the closet flange a little bit and you wont scratch the toilet because it actually sits down into the toilet. Infact man Just for you im going to make a How to Video right now on Using a toilet auger. Ill have it posted in a few minutes.

      No righteousness tradesman who actually does drain work is gonna clear any legit clogged drains with the Milwaukee either bud and ive used them both you write this comment out of complete and utter ignorance like any other keyboard warrior. You realize Milwaukee is owned by TTI right? Do you have any idea who TTI is? Its a Chinese Company Milwaukee is no longer built in the US its built in China probably in the exact same factory as the harbor freight stuff so please educate yourself before you jump on your high horse and ride yourself right off a cliff.
      The facts are plain and simple the Bauer is a much better option for a home owner/ do it yourselfer not a plumber who is snaking drains every single day I wouldnt recommend the Milwaukee for that either And I Infact cleared some drains with the Bauer that Both the Milwaukee and the Rigid would of never made it through. I stand behind my review you clearly are some green probably handyman like the rest of the know it all jack of all trades master of none that come here and make comments like "You dont have to replace a garbage disposal when its leaking from the base! Just completely disassemble it and coat the rust in Rubber!"
