We are never too old to learn new things. I have learned so much since 2018 when I followed the eruption evolving on Hawaii and now learning since 2021 when the Fagradalsfjall eruption on Iceland. It is fascinating.
Thank you for leaving a few moments of your beautiful footage and silence at the end of this. Your narration is wonderful, but the video speaks for itself and Iceland's natural beauty. It's also a nice reminder to take a minute and a deep breath to appreciate the world for what it is.
Thank you for perfectly describing how I felt with just taking a deep breath, relaxing & reflecting for the first time in 36 hrs. 🙏 Gylfi has been the source of that gift of peace. Thank you Gylfi. 🙏
I just want to day thankyou for documenting these events with beautiful foorage worth it's weight in gold. Stay safe, all the best from Tony Hare. Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Thank you for documenting all of this. I’ve been watching this channel for awhile and I see your subscribers are increasing, so congratulations! You’ll have 100K in no time. I always love seeing that you’ve posted new material. I am super excited to see your final documentary as well… but it sounds like there is a while to go before this situation is at its end. Best to you and stay safe out there.
Stunning footage as always. I stopped the video at 6.04 and compared it to 6.14. Amazing contrast.❤ Whenever you make this documentary, I will enjoy it no matter when it happens. I think you will have more to film before making it♥As you say, uncertain times ahead. Good luck from Ireland🍀🍀
I feel that through you I've gotten to more about Iceland than I ever have before. I also have developed a fondness for the town of Grindavik and so very much hope that it will survive.
Gylfi once again with your good self and Shawn thank you for such a wonderful update and current feedback on what the volcanic activity is up too in Iceland 🇮🇸. God bless, be safe and Hlakka til næstu uppfærslu þinnar.
Thanks, it wont be soon though, I need this chapter to close first and I might have to wait for years in order to do a comprehensive story spending my 2-300 updates so far. SO it's a big task, and tanks for your interest :)
Many thanks as ever for the update. Looking at your drone footage of the active cinder cone it does look as if the eruption is slowly powering down as you say. Unfortunately of course there is continued uncertainty as to whether lava will break through the surface somewhere else. Very enervating and unsettling for all concerned. I shall of course continue to keep an eye on things.
You know if I had any money your channel would be among the first ones I'd support by coffee or patreon or whatever. It is as it is and you are in my thoughts and comments, sending you witchy powers and good vibes for your health and your life and the red stuff we all love.
Thank You Gylfi. If there is one thing I have learned from Geomorphology and earthquake theory, it is that whatever you expect to happen, seldom does, so you have to expect the unexpected. Your observations of this eruption, I am sure, will be of great value to future vulcanologists. Take care and I am sending you best regards and wishes from NZ.
Hi Gylfi. I hope you are well. Thank you for your efforts again. I'm glad you decided to stay around and wait for the next something. It will be great to see that from you. Stay safe
It is relevant and important to have the lasting insight of those experiencing it. It will also provide some insights to new science, hopefully, regarding these eruptive areas.
Always good to hear from you Gylfi your footage is especially amazing and so clear always great shots look after yourself and Mrs Gylfi from the uk 🇬🇧 to Iceland 🇮🇸 much respect 😊
Not really there have been years of eruptions studied around the word, it’s probably the most questionable scientific study you could claim to have. Every one of the so called scientists has basically said. “We may have an eruption today, but the eruption could take another week that depends on a lot of factors that we can’t calculate, but the intrusion could also stop overnight and this could be a failed intrusion and things could go back to normal”. Go and look at the predictions a tarot card reader could be a volcanologist after reading a few geology books.
Really shows the scale of this. Amazing to see. Magma chamber looked pretty energetic. Always gives me an unusual feeling looking at footage like this. Best wishes to the locals.
Indeed they are. But roads on recent lava is not a unique Iceland idea. Years ago I saw footage of one man with an old excavator doing the same in Goma in eastern Congo.
Once again, one of the most straightforward explanations there is available on RUclips. Thank you for your content and I can't wait to see the finished Documentary 😊
It is rare to see nowadays reporting being made with so much passion, honesty and personal integrity. My hat is off. I am not sure whether it is in the cards, but I think that you could made a great job making a series of short interviews with the people that were forced to leave their hometown and now had to adjust to live elsewhere. How they have been impacted and how they find their way in short, medium and eventually long term.
Thank you Gylfi❣️ I am new here and appreciate your informative videos on the eruptions and earth quakes. My heart goes out to the people in Iceland struggling through this situation 💕
Such a beautiful town. Such a tragic event. I can imagine the future with that harbor, sitting empty, missing those who used her well. Thank you for bringing us these breathtaking videos, and for sharing the facts - what's _really_ happening in Iceland. America is fascinated by your Country. If folks need help, let the world know! 💖🇮🇸
We may not know for certain but we do have at least two main contenders: 1) the existing eruption gaining intensity, which it may already be but hidden due to most of the lava flowing under the lava pool's rising crust and 2) the fissures re-opening to let the excess inflow out #1 is likely already happening as a matter of basic fluid dynamics: more inlet pressure + same pipes + same outlet pressure = more flow, albeit impeded by viscosity, boundary layer drag at the walls, bends, etc. #2 is only a matter of time based on previous events. Previous eruptions occurred between 8M and 13M cubic meters reservoir capacity, it was around 10M a few days ago, may have passed the 11M mark by now. We're maybe a week away from the reservoir reaching its highest estimated capacity to date. When it goes, I wouldn't be surprised if the old fissures lit up beyond the three destroyed houses in Grindavik.
@@teardowndan5364 Agree with you there. I thinking along a broader sense, the peninsula, the ocean ridge alongside and everywhere else like Hekla and Katla that have been so quiet of recent, not to mention the less well known areas. I wonder how big Iceland will become, the next North America or Europe sized (it has unimaginable potential).
I love it when you mention Thors full name in your videos 🤭🤗🤗 Thanks for the fantastic footage of the splatter cone. It’s been interesting to see the changes with the cone and trying to connect it with the quakes and uplift.
I guess patience is the key when waiting for something to happen with this situation. Hope the town stays safe thanks for the video. Goodluck from Las Vegas
It is sad that the town of Grindavik is losing homeowners, but I understand that the people who lived there need to move on with their lives. You made a previous video about the numerous faults and fissures throughout the town that are the reason why people can't live there again without a huge effort to rebuild the infrastructure. The GPS measurements showed how the two was stretched by around 2 meters in November 2023 through January 2024 due to the magma intrusion at depth. Even though it only reached the surface in a small flow, that stretching is permanent damage to almost everything both underground and on the surface.
You are constructing a wonderful historical film archive, Gylfi, by sticking to your wide landscape and community perspective, rather than merely joining the competition to get the most dramatic picture of the active crater.
Thank you for your updates, I hope you will all be safe. I arrive by ferry on Saturday for 8 days riding round Iceland on my motorbike taking in the stunning scenery of such a beautiful country.
Thanks so much, yet again, for a wonderfully thorough update - accompanied by steller video! Let us hope that when the magma chamber DOES decide to empty itself out, it decides to do so in a civilized manner, via the currently erupting vent, so as to merely add more to the existing valley-fill, with any excess flowing to the coast to help create an even better harbour for Grindavik! 😉
hmmm... You were recently ill and probably didn't give yourself enough time to recover. As much as I enjoy your videos, you should take more care of yourself. Best wishes and thank you for that update.
Just by looking at your footage, you can see how high the lava flow is getting against the protective walls. The berms , up to this time, have prevented a lot of destruction.
Hey gylfi ur photos and videos are some of the greatest. My fear is that people will take ur hard work and use it as their own do u have it water marked or something so ppl cant use ur stuff
The wonders of Mother Nature, awesome. But it is so sad to see that the community of Grindavik will not be saved. I can't imagine the emotions of having to leave your home and community knowing that things will never be the same. I'm sure that some still had hope that someway they would be able to move back. Thank you Gylfi for your heart felt comments and your amazing talent that you share with us all.
Thankyou 🙏
😎 welcome
I always like the honesty in your comments. Thank you!
I appreciate that!
Who'd have thought that at 76 I'd be learning so much about volcanoes 😅...many thanks.

You are never too young to learn something new.
Thank you for this update, as always clearly explained. It must be so hard for the people who live there, hope and prayers for them.
Your videos are priceless documentation. And more than that, they are beautifully done!
Wow, thank you! and greetings from Iceland :)
Thank you for leaving a few moments of your beautiful footage and silence at the end of this. Your narration is wonderful, but the video speaks for itself and Iceland's natural beauty.

Thank you for the update on the Grindavik residents getting bought out. Your drone footage is amazing as usual!

a big thank you for all your film work, without it we only get half the picture....well done
Many thanks!
So sad for the town people 😢 thank you for documenting their journey
True. It is sad. However, think of it this way. They're safe and could rebuild. Yes it won't be home, but as long as they are safe.
I feel that through you I've gotten to more about Iceland than I ever have before. I also have developed a fondness for the town of Grindavik and so very much hope that it will survive.
Wonderful photo footage. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing! 😊
Many thanks!
Thank you. It is indeed historie in the making and a great learning curve for the experts. It is a sign of healthy debate that they not always agree.
2:12 to 3:02 this night view is so fascinating, almost hypnotising! Thanks for the honest and personal update and the great footage.
Your work is very much appreciated👍
Thank you so much 😀

Gorgeous footage, Gylfie. Let us know when your documentary is up. You’re always so “to the point”.

Many thanks Jane 😊
Great to catch up on this eruption. Best content on this event by far.
Thanks a ton :)
Gylfi gives the best advert for Iceland. Not only volcanoes, but also beautiful scenery. His videos are absolutely stunning.
You know if I had any money your channel would be among the first ones I'd support by coffee or patreon or whatever. It is as it is and you are in my thoughts and comments, sending you witchy powers and good vibes for your health and your life and the red stuff we all love.
Thank you so much for your updates.
Welcome :)
Your updates and images are so important for people like me who have been focused on Iceland since all the eruptions began.
Thank you Gylfi.
Great to hear :) and it's plenty to come :)
Thank You Gylfi. If there is one thing I have learned from Geomorphology and earthquake theory, it is that whatever you expect to happen, seldom does, so you have to expect the unexpected. Thanks again Gylfi. For me _YOU_ dominate all Iceland content.
You use your tools with amazing skill.(brain and voice included)
Hi Gylfi. I hope you are well. Thank you for your efforts again. I'm glad you decided to stay around and wait for the next something. It will be great to see that from you. Stay safe

I imagine that the scientific community has learned a lot from these eruptions, especially since they are so accessible these days.
And best wishes to you from Iceland :)
So glad to be a tiny cog in the support machine. Kia kaha from Aotearoa New Zealand.
Thankyou Gylfi for another great update ❤🎉And it’s a heart rending story of the dissolution of a community 😢
It's amazing to see the roads laid on top of the lava. The Icelandic people are admirably tough and resilient.
Indeed they are. But roads on recent lava is not a unique Iceland idea. Years ago I saw footage of one man with an old excavator doing the same in Goma in eastern Congo.
thermal video from the road coming soon, already filmed it :)
This is what continues to break my heart - that you all cannot be certain about anything or plan for the future.
Thank you for the update Gylfi!!
My pleasure!!
Thanks Gylfi! 😎✌️👍☕
😎 welcome
Thank you for your insight and updates.
My pleasure!
Amazing footage as always. Best wishes!
Many thanks!
Thank you so very very much.
Always welcome
Thank you for your work.
I'm going to travel to Iceland one day to witness the aftermath of this enormous event with my own eyes.
Great job! Thanks ❤
Welcome❤
Looking forward to your video documentary!
It's a task to do when this chapter is over, and thanks for watching :)
Excellent coverage once again! Yes, it helps a lot to understand Iceland, when explained and shown to us.
Glad it was helpful :) and always welcome
Beautiful and impressing update, Gylfi! ✨🙏✨
Thank you so much!
Such brave people .To start all over again .Prayers , hugs and admiration.
Thank you for your hard work ❤

I remember Áramótaskaup (new year's eve) they had a sketch about the vulcanogists disagreeing with each other...

Much appreciated!
Finally caught an upload in the first 10 seconds! Watching now, love the content as always
Welcome back!
Literally no one knows what is around the corner in Iceland, nature is keeping everyone guessing.
Yes its not getting any better. Sadly

Awesome, thanks!

Looking forward to your documentary. Great work with the drone and I love your comments!
Thank you ✌🏻
At least a little uncertainty has been removed for the 500 families who took the buyouts.
