I've been off youtube a couple years but i'll bet alot of Gatton
fans rermember me Gattonmaster. This is one of DG's 20 best dvd/video
solos. And thats hard because as easily the alltime chops master ; the
human ecyclopedia of solos. The greatest soloists of all time. overwhelmingly !!! This man just has too many to choose from.
A true performer always thanks their audience. Because without them there would no money
Tom always had it. I produced a song with him in the eighties "Sensulation" he did the thing in one take. Future ahoy Tom
This is truly remarkable. This is the difference between a great player like Principato and a guitar master like Danny Gatton.
Saw Tom Principato at Gypsy Sally's in DC not long ago, still has got it! Awesome show!
I heard Tom Principato live back in the day but I had forgotten how great he was/is! And of course so was DG.
wednesdays at the wharf! and this show-- i was there for all of them!
That look gatton gives when tp starts shredding, gatton was like, ‘okay it’s like that, love ya, but it WILL be my turn!’ Rad. Thank you
I have seen most of the dvd thanks to you actually. My best mate is Nipperooney. I saw the dvd you sent him. One of my favourite piece of guitar playing is the one clip from gallaghers on here. I couldn't say Danny is my favourite player though, it's impossible to choose. Martin Taylor, Michael Hedges, Django, Stevie Ray, Brian Setzer, Brian May, Townshend, ilmour..... For me it's about the emotional content as wall as the skill.
lot of naysayers have a lot to say about Mr Gatton's playing. I hope they can get the help they need
Oh, the Nay-Sayers! They're talkers and doers... Gatton is still a huge influence for me..
Danny Gatton was alone in his own league. He was simply the best, better than all the rest.
Came here to see the awesome Gatton and I find Principato is a master too.
I have not seen this Gatton video, Love the mans playing as well as Mr Principatos..
absolutely hilarious to see Tom Principato doing a super human solo with Danny Gatton cooling on his left getting ready to cut loose...he knows what's coming. Monster players, and I've seen them both in tiny clubs. And Steve Wolf is a legend in his own right on bass.
These are top notch solos. Tom would be the first to acknowledge the influence of the great innovator and guitar legend, and now sadly departed, Les Paul. The licks at 1.09, again at 1.37 and at 2.04 are pure LP. If you watch Danny's videos he demonstrates the lick at 1.09 as the Les Paul lick.
They both played super. As for why Eric Clapton gets the dough, it's because he was in the right place at the right time and looks good and writes songs and taught himself to SING and was an innovator with his tone and a pioneering blues-rocker. He also played very memorable short solos in songs e.g. Badge or While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Gatton's preferred style is Rockabilly which was no longer commercially viable when he was coming up. The Fabulous Thunderbirds had some success partly because they came out of the Austin scene and Jimmy Vaughan was Stevie's brother - not to slight his talent.
Looks good.....???
This is so epic! DG and Tom P are such unique players.
thanks for the replies there fellas
I was actually being sarcastic :-)
For me. Clapton is the most over rated guitarist who ever lived and Danny the most over looked.
I would say the Live at Gallaghers(proper) video is the most inspiring, magical, mind blowing piece of playing i've ever seen.
After that its Scotty Anderson, Tommy Emmanuel and Jeff Beck for me.Although if you asked me again tomorrow it would be different again... :-)
I still say Gatton was the best ever.
Some really totally sick level guitar playing.....
well fuck all...and Tom, what a true champ! I'd never heard this amazing player..
My guitar just went on strike!
damn... Danny .....
Any guitarist who goes on stage with Danny has got to have balls of steel cause if your not on form he will make you look ordinary
I've never seen anything that good.
No one can touch Danny. Not even close. Ofcourse I could be a little bias since my brother was his drummer for 18 years. Nah! Danny was and is the best. Bar none!
Excelllent! Makes wanna jump up and down and play the guitar!!
Also, check out the RUclips footage of Tom playing with Steinar Gregertsen (Norway).
There is a whole lot of badass on that stage.
I am a true Gatton fan but lets not overlook Toms solo here its pretty smokn too! Did he learn stuff from Danny or did they just have the same influences?
Toms no slouch love him.... DG whispered bring your A game... then schools in session Tom and
Danny best you could have seen and don't see these days...
Gatton wiped the floor with Tom P.
...wow, never heard of this guy, what a fukin' face melting shreadder.
Ripping the hell out of thst tele wanging away! Bad Ass!!
LOTS OF NOTES LOOKING FOR A SONG.
No women either
Ren and Stimpy's favorite band.
tOM PLAYS DELICIOUS BUT DANNY WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD
Man.. ya don't learn that shit overnight !!
Tom have a big Les Paul´s influence ,beatifull song!
Holy crap!
Can anyone please tell me the name of this song?? Thanks!
This song is Tiny Bradshaw's "Well Oh Well"
cool.. ♪♫♫♪♪♫♫♪♪♫♫♪
If you look at Part 2 (other clip) Danny does the same lick at 6.13
How’s Danny doing?
This was from 88, in 87 Danny did alot of those sit down Gallaghers gigs.
the plaster used to fall off the ceiling at the roxy!
A lot of clapton haters out there.Danny was a more skilled guitarist but Eric aside from the guitar was also a great songwriter and vocalist, that,s the reason he went on to such fame and fortune. Not everyone has to play like Danny to be good.
I guess I better keep practicing.
BINGO; even though Lenny Breau could be the alltime guitar genus,
Scotty Anderson is the quickest maybe most perfect technically ever,
Wes, Django, Jimmy Bryant, Johny Smith, Jeff Beck, John Williams,
Bream, Chet, Farlowe, SMorse, SRV; I still take Gatton; nobody is nearly as overwhelming.Best all around player is not Eric johnson, Morse, Howe;
it;s Gatton and Breau !!
@crocidile75 Interestingly, on his sleeve notes on his album Not One Word, Tom also acknowledges Eric Clapton as an influence (along with about 50 other guitarists). Tragic though Danny's death was, Tom is still out there gigging like there's no tomorrow. I was lucky enough to catch him last November at one of his only two gigs in the UK. And a nicer more modest guy you would struggle to find. Come back soon
Bingo; to me the top 3 are DG, Lenny, Scotty; then Wes and Django. Plus many
honorable mentions Johny Smith, Beck, Bryant, Garland, Burrell, SRV,
JWilliams, JBreem, Farlowe, Pass, & Remler. Fonamassa, Kotch, Paisley,
Setzer can play & Brent Mason, and Frank Vignola; Emanuel, & Dykes.
you sure this wasnt 87 ?-- i saw tom and dg there twice-- i think one had the uptown rhythm kings and bob margolin on the bill -- i dont think they used ticket stubs at the roxy
you're right man,it's foolish to believe in legends.Gattons' theoretical background reaches far deeper then Eric's(beeing a very good bluesplayer).Personally,i like Petrucci's play a lot,but must admit that players like Holdsworth or Shawn lane do more interesting things.
I love single coils!
Dude with the hat's no slouch.
That'd be mr. Tom Principato ;-) Never heard about this Danny Gaton guy so for me, to feeling's more like "what the hell?! Never thought I'd see someone play Tom off the stage" LOL -- awesome stuff my man ... but do check out Principato. Worth it. (House on Fire and his work with Jimmy Thackery is fingerlickin' good)
Plus one! Clapton and Gatton are not even on the same planet.
So much slop
gatton is buzzed lol
Sorry, nobody ever has outplayed DG, I don’t care who your guitar hero is, not even the devil…. That’s why they called him the humbler….
57 sorry
Not bad, but he aint no Clapton.
Pass, Sete, Emanuel, Garland, Holdsworth, Dimeola,
Albert Lee, Rhodes, EJohnson, Vignola, JStephan, hedges,
Yngwie, Martino.
