    Best explanation of left and right cable knitting without a cable needle I have seen.

    First time I’ve ever seen you and I subscribed and liked even before you got through the first three minutes because you can tell right away you get down to business and you explain things very well. I’m excited to learn knitting from you.

    I tried to watch some other videos about this and they were using terminology for cabling that I didn't know yet, because I'm a beginner! This made it so much clearer. Thanks. :)

    I found this video by accident! (I found most of Marley's videos by accident (giggle and grin)) I have put off trying to do cable stitches because I don't have a cable needle. Now I can try and do the cable stitch!! :-)
    I've been watching Marley's videos for about 3 years now, and she is a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious teacher!!
    Thank you and I ADORE you Marley Bird!!

    I'm a total beginner when it comes to knitting, and I found a woven cable headband that is really interesting to me but I didn't have a cable needle. This makes the pattern so much easier now (though still confusing as it's a cable six)! Thank you!

    Been working on a center out cable blanket. Did the first 80 or 90 rounds with the cable needle before I had seen you do it enough in all your videos enough times that I felt comfortable enough to try. Good thing cause I lost my cable needle about 10 rounds ago and just found it when I stuck myself with it. Good thing it is a semi pliable plastic.

    Thank you for posting this. It was really easy to understand. However, I tried it on my current project with a fingering weight slippery yarn, and it actually took longer than using the cable needle as I kept dropping the loops! Ouch. So folks, don't try this at home! Stick to the more woolly yarns, as Marly suggested in the video. Next time I have a project with woolly yarn I'll give it another go. Incidentally, my technique involves using a hook-shaped cable needle and putting the loops back on the left needle instead of trying to fumble-knit the stitches off the cable needle. So I think that helps me do it more easily. It's not really all that different from your technique in the end.
    I thought of an additional comment. I knit continental, so I was having more trouble with your technique at first until I realized I had to drop the working yarn to do the pinching. I was juggling too many things in the left hand. So this comment may help other viewers if they knit continental.

    This is so much better then some other videos cuz they literally just let the stitches hang there and I’m have like a knitter’s anxiety attack lmao
    This is much better!!!! Pinch the stitch!!! It would be perfect for wool projects since wool isn’t slippery

      @NinaKeilin 6 лет назад

      Yes, see my note above. I had trouble with a slippery yarn. But the video is great.

    Thank you so much for being so clear and so encouraging and upbeat!
    It's funny that you mention honeycomb right at the end of the video because that's EXACTLY the kind of pattern that sent me searching for videos on this subject--I thought, there HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY than sitting here with that dang cabling needle in and out of my mouth all the time! I want to take this project on an airplane trip in a few days and I need it to be MANAGEABLE!

    Many thanks for such a great explanation and for a very empowering video! I have tried some videos before, always coming to a conclusion that this is not for me and I rather stay with my cable needles. Now I am very happy knitting cables without cable needle, and the cables are times faster and times more tidy, than these were before I have found this great video!

    I mean you're still doing the same thing just without the help of an additional needle, aka the cable needle. I get that this works well for simple cables, would you also do it for elaborate Celtic knots though? I love doing those, often takes even two cable needles to hold everything in place lol. Otherwise it's just too dangerous to lose something.

    If you're ever looking for a project maybe you could help us with this one, I would like somebody to demonstrate the hitchhiker shawl with all the teeth and how you decrease to make the tooth and how that gets its shape. I really don't understand the pattern maybe you can help us with that it is one of the most popular shawls

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  7 лет назад

      Thank you for the suggestion. I could demonstrate the technique used in the hitchhiker but I can't show how to make the actual hitchhiker. It is a copyright and sponsorship issue. However, I do know and understand the technique. I could absolutely show how it is done. Maybe I will call is steps in your knitting or something ;-)
