- The partner of Frankie Hough, who was killed along with her unborn baby by a dangerous driver on the M66, has spoken as he launched a new road safety initiative in Greater Manchester.
Frankie, from Chadderton in Oldham was 17 weeks pregnant when Adil Iqbal’s BMW smashed into her vehicle while it was pulled up on the hard shoulder of the M66.
The crash in May 2023 claimed the lives of both Frankie and her unborn daughter, Neeve.
Now, a series of adverts have been released by Safer Roads Greater Manchester, with Frankie's partner Calvin Buckley helping to front the campaign

I think the fact he was driving at 123mph was more dangerous.
Speed itself isn't inherently dangerous, but driving almost twice the speed of every other vehicle around you on roads designed for their speed rather than yours in combination with the distraction of a phone and also steering one handed all contributed. When everyone drives fast, speed is less dangerous (unless you lose control or crash, of course, then you'd wish you were going more slowly, assuming you survive), not that I think we should be going any faster or anything, but countries with faster roads don't have more accidents because of the speed. I think the biggest issue is the lack of respect for others, and for the rules. That combination creates a really specific kind of person, and they're over represented in crime statistics.
This country is a joke
This sentence is way more than the 3 n half years kevin Parker got in 2002, when he killed my mate nicola wiggins when under the influence and had no licence. He took a right hand turn with an oncoming car that ended up plowing into the passenger side and the family switched her life support off 10 days later in August 2001, she was 15, he was 18.
Every country is a joke
15 years for 2 lives.......wow. Rest in Paradise mother and baby 🩷🙏🙏
15 years is that it. Stupid law.
Useless law
There are already laws in place, regarding the use of phones while driving - the problem is enforcing them.
Yep.
I'm ab ex AnE nurse.....
People driving with a phone should get a lifetime ban from driving and immediate long term jail sentences....
Aren't prisons already full? And you want to keep people in there for really long times, further packing them up. There are already sentences for killing somebody when driving.
Lifetime?? Human beings make mistakes.
Speeding on the motorways seems to be an everyday occurrence these days, weaving in and out of traffic, often young men, who seem to think they’re in some online game.
Should be a life sentence for murder.
Motorways are the safest roads.
People cannot drive the standard is so low and Police don't enforce unless they get money through fines. Nobody indicates, gives way to the right at roundabouts, drives with lights on in fog or heavy rain. Then cyclists riding at night, no lights dark clothes. The police don't care
Young people get unfairly punished with high premiums to prevent them from driving while older drives get let off. Like the one who nearly killed me, both a medical condition and medication that meant he shouldn't have been driving. Didn't get banned.
Yea, they are influenced by these grand theft auto games and high on something.
@@chappy2121 I can’t speak for every motorway but for the most part the majority still indicate, there is always that group, like you said, no lights on in certain weathers and driving erratically.
@@chappy2121 For now
Wow 15 years! You really threw the book at him with that one
Using his mobile in this case was not even the main cause of the crash, speeding and thinking he was in fast and furious was the problem!!
His eyes on his phone was the main cause, the speeding made it worse
The next time you are in stop and go traffic, look at how many other drivers have their phones on their laps and are checking them while stopped at lights etc.
Stopped at lights? If the car isn't moving, where's the danger?
@@mikehart2555Aha you one of them. Guilty as charged hence the defensive mode. You should not have the phone anywhere near your hand when behind the wheel, regardless of traffic lights or otherwise. It's a distraction and you are a disaster waiting to happen. You should be locked up for that silly protesting you on before scrutinising your guilty driving while on phone 🙄
@@mikehart2555 ........ you're on the road in charge of a motor vehicle and not paying attention..........
.... I would've thought that was imperative at all times, given that a lot of folks think it's "okay" to focus on their devices and to not pay attention.
@@mikehart2555 What do you think the police would do if they saw you? There is your answer
So?
Please make it 30 years
Instant ban for 12mts! If caught again, life ban and 1mth prison! Guess what......they will still chose to play with a phn!! 😢
The campaign won’t work, no campaign has ever worked. Even if capital punishment was brought back for this offence, the sad reality is people would still use their phones at the wheel.
The anti-firearms campaign worked pretty well when people put aside their differences and did what was right...
@@robbpatterson6796 . And yet, there are still guns on the streets and people are still getting shot !
This is already against the law?
Nope, until a couple of months ago it was legal to use a phone in a windscreen mount for GPS/etc purposes.
@@llynellyn it still is, isn't it? I mean the giant tablet screens in modern cars are just as much of a distraction and with largely the same apps available as on phones. Seems weird to change the law on screens but only phones. Some cars even require you to go through multiple menus to use the touchscreen to turn on the AC or change the temperature, demist the windows etc. That is just as dangerous as replying to a text. Following sat nav isn't any more distracting than having a conversation with a passenger or listening to the radio IMHO, as long as you've searched for your destination before setting off and aren't messing about with it on the move.
@@llynellynHe was holding the phone, that is illegal.
@@dougaltolan3017 Never said it wasn't.
It's been illegal for over 20yrs, and still some people ignore the dangers!!! Should be a lifetime ban when caught. Ridiculous sentence!!!!
I've always left my phone in the charging port till I've finished my journey. People playing with phones in the car are the main reason why car insurances are sky-high. So many peoples lifes are loss too. Some people are stupid enough to play theyre phones whilst driving 😔
With a name like Adil Iqbal why am i not surprised
Had to be an Ahmed didn't it
Me too
one of the snack bar lot
I'm sorry I don't understand how a mobile phone contributed to a numpty driving at over 100 mph. I've had hands free calling, a speed limiter and cruise control since 2005. I comply with the speed limits and chat with my passengers all of the time. But when it is a mobile phone call it kills people.
He was filming himself, did you not watch the video. His eyes were not on the road
He was holding the phone, videoing the speedometer.
Didn't you watch the video?
@@dougaltolan3017 and you think thats paying attention the road?
@@mfbias4048 No, not in the slightest.
Focusing on aiming a camera at a speedometer is at least 2 steps of abstraction from the road and whats happening on it.
The fines for this is too low and if caught should have licence taken away.
Unfortunately, road safety has nothing to do with safety but revenue. That's why they don't ban people for life
....... it is alarming as a pedestrian to witness the amount of people whom drive down the road one handed whilst looking at their lap.............. how they think it's anything other than highly dangerous and totally unnecessary, I do not know.......... just appalling.
Tosers I call them and let them know as well
...... well, yes... @@nyakwarObat ... I suppose they could be doing that........ just as dangerous and twice as appalling........ 🤭
I was under the impression the UK Already has a Law in place Against mobile phone use whilst driving including penalties attached ,,,
Yes it does,6 points on your licence if caught, unfortunately it needs increasing to an automatic ban, problem then is we will have thousands of banned drivers who use their mobile phone, the addiction is too strong ,sad ,very sad.
Feel his pain in his voice...
Driving over 100mph and nearly double the speed limit of a motorway is what caused the loss of this poor blokes family, not the idiot using his mobile phone.
It's already illegal to use your phobe whilst the engine is running.
The poor bloke should be campaigning for life sentences for anyone killing someone with a vehicle due to negligence or under influence. A mate of mine died 10 days after her partner crashed his car taking a right hand turn whilst on drugs and drink when a car was coming in the opposite direction and slammed into the passengers side, he got 3 n half years in 2002.
I have been in cars doing well over 100mph on the M1 and M62 in my life, we never went into the hard shoulder.
We're justifiably not allowed to touch our phones whilst driving but all the new cars coming out with touch screen interfaces on the dashboard... perfectly fine apparently.
Wasn’t it already illegal to use a phone driving from years ago?
Stop cars going over 70mph, life if caught on phone while driving.
Driving’s a job for a reason every second can be a potential add a phone to the mix is fuel on a fire . Cars are huge accidents waiting for careless operators
Shouldn't be using a mobile phone, while driving anyway. Thats the law already!
I still see so many people on their phones in cars and even on motorbikes. This country is ridiculous and this cannot go on. As I’m someone who was in a road traffic accident.
"Campaign" 😂 if only there'd been a law!!
If only it was self evident, how risky it is.
If only someone would "campaign" and pick up a tax payer provided pay cheque for a non-job, with staff.
Diversity is our strength! More doctors. More engineers!
Had nothing to do with phone it was fast speeding thinking he's in a computer game
Hopefully that will go for hands free too. When your driving all your senses should be on driving, nothing else
How does hands free affect your driving its just like talking to someone in the car with you, I use hands free all the time doest affect my driving at all,
@@user-lf2nd5xj6wWhen you talk to someone in the car, they are aware of your driving. It's different if the person is on the other end of a call.
You might well be able to drive safely enough during a call, but it does make a difference. I think it was RUclipsr Tom Scott dud a test, the results were eye opening!
The road is an unfair place where a 90 year old can kill you, probably the least Darwinian place in the whole Universe.
I thought it was already illegal
Natural selection. Evolution is cruel sometimes. Most of times.
That ban already exists FACT
He looks a right Chav, and a Show Off.. poor girl
Only white british people can take the name of chav
Ffs please lord take care of her.xxx ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Had to be one of the usual suspects
As an Asian I agree. Disgusting behaviour
Sad News 😢 -
driver should get years in prison!
We need a campaign for this? Oh, btw, once we're done with this we'll need a campaign to make pedestrians look where they're going. They're always just shooting out to the side without looking, or giving any indication whatsoever. It's a problem when I'm walking and when I'm driving lol. Why are people so dumb?
Mobile phone addiction? You don't see many people these days in all walks of life without their face staring into a mobile phone. It does seem to be some type of addiction. I got rid of mine. I just use a basic burner phone. I know not everyone can do that because of work etc. But if you can ditch it. You probably still have a tablet or device you can use at home when you are not being a danger to other people or indeed yourself😮
Yes Ive had loads of people just walking out onto the road on me looking at their phone not even checking to see if it's safe
@@debbieredfern2267 yep it's a problem everywhere. I don't even know how they can do it, when I want to do something on my phone I just press one button and then put it back in my pocket while I wait for it to load. Later on in the day, I'll take it back out to see if the app is ready yet.
This happened ages ago ur slow
Joke to the extreme.dude was filming himself in 100 miles an hour for clout chasing. The reason he crashed because hes speeding and an idiot clout chaser
Campaign, it should be common sense not to use it. I have even seen a woman watching a movie with an ipad strapped to the middle of the steering wheel. I couldn't believe my eyes.🙏
🤣😂🤣😂that's a first 🤣🤣🤣
Self entitled motorists, yet according to motorists that title goes to cyclists!!!
First offence £500 fine any subsequent offence six month ban.
Rest in peace so sad
Sick of these people, he should be deported
He was probably born here, so no chance of that. He will be back out in 12 - 15 years and within a week or so arrogant as ever. Also what often happens is their driving insurance will be so expensive, they don't bother getting any . You see it all the time on these police programmes. 😢
You should have sympathy for him speeding is fine no problem been on the phone can be fine he didn’t mean to hurt anyone it was a fckin accident let him go
Maybe they should campaign to stop women from using the rear view mirror to touch up their make up while driving .
I'd have to climb halfway across my dash to be able to see my reflection in the rear view mirror. Can't see this being a real thing that really happens tbh.
@@mydogeatspuke a police woman crashed over the beach front and killed relatives of mine, she survived. And it turned out at the inquest,by her own admission, ( she could not deny it) and that, that.
was precisely what she was doing while responding to an emergency call. . She wanted to look her best.
@@mydogeatspuke You mean you've practised climbing over the back seat to see yourself in the rear view mirror?
Save it .
You either did or you did not .
Maybe you should just keep your eyes on the road ahead.
@@ThomasAllan-up4td you're a bit fkn mental ain't ya mate? Of course I haven't practiced climbing into the back seat (I said across the dash, but haven't done that either) whilst driving. Not sure you understand how driving works if you think that's even possible. And I HIGHLY doubt a police officer was doing her makeup in her rear view mirror, which again is impossible whilst driving without lifting from the seat and so away from the pedals, because she "wanted to look her best." Your incoherent spam ranting isn't really making me reconsider reality either. And FYI, I do indeed keep my eyes on the road ahead, and occasionally on the mirrors to see behind and around me, as you're supposed to do. They aren't positioned so that you can see yourself in them. Perhaps you're confusing the rear view mirror with the sun visor mirror? That is positioned so that you can see yourself in it from the driving seat, although again it's very unlikely someone would use it to do their makeup whilst actively driving, for a variety of reasons from only having two eyes to only having two hands.
