- Sonnet 104 by William Shakespeare Summary To Me Fair Friend Analysis Sonnet 104 William Shakespeare
1564 - 1616
To me, fair friend, you never can be old,
For as you were when first your eye I ey'd,
Such seems your beauty still. Three winters cold,
Have from the forests shook three summers' pride,
Three beauteous springs to yellow autumn turned,
In process of the seasons have I seen,
Three April perfumes in three hot Junes burned,
Since first I saw you fresh, which yet are green.
Ah! yet doth beauty like a dial-hand,
Steal from his figure, and no pace perceived;
So your sweet hue, which methinks still doth stand,
Hath motion, and mine eye may be deceived:
For fear of which, hear this thou age unbred:
Ere you were born was beauty's summer dead.

Marvelous! Thank you very much, Sir.👍👍👍
We appreciate your teachings! ❤
I'm so glad!
Beautiful poem of friendship inspite of time. I am amazed how Shakespeare sees age creeping up on all those he loves yet makes no remarks of his own aging. The appearances of the traits of feebleness that comes with old age
To me fair friend main theme is age , beauty, future. This sonnet deals with destructive force of time as we grow older . Poet uses his friend as example , he admires fact that his friend has kept his youthful appearance over time that he has known him .
