I think MaxPax figured out how to fight Terran, and that's what's cool. It turns out that against Terran, if you aren't ahead you're behind, so keeping them always 1-2 bases behind you makes your late game army actually scale relative to theirs.
I remember when (not too long ago) 80% of finalists were protoss, and everyone else complained about how op protoss was. Then came some balance patches that tipped the balance in favor of terrans, and terran players were going "Wow, is this what it feels like to be protoss?" SC2 is not static.
I still feel like the balance is why pros choose what they choose, maybe even if they don't know it. After playing protoss since broodwar came out, I gave zerg a try recently. What I noticed was despite the units feeling worse, the spellcasters are in a different leauge then protoss. Protoss has aoe damage spell, and aoe damage spell, really centered around keeping the death ball alive in zoning damage. The zerg spellcasters actually feel like they are precise and enhance the army, which helps fast accurate guys like serrals play style. Terran is the opposite of protoss. Protoss uses cheap gateway units to tank for their thin line of power units. Terran uses their power units expendably to enhance their bioball. Set them up, and use heavy fast micro to keep your bio alive while you slow creep your base forward in a heavily entrenched position. It works for the fast guys like byun and clem, and for the guys who are methodical and planning like maru. but then again. the pro scene seems to finally be figuring out how to play protoss. theyre the aggressive race.

It was a bit weird in game 1 hearing LowkoTV talk about how serral was outplaying maxpax when the finisher was down to 3 bases versus the four of Protoss but oh well.
Wow! What a series! Series of the Year?!?!? Those status wards in G1 and G3 are the unsung heroes… can MaxPax PLEASE play in an offline tourney…that’s all I’m asking from Santa this year.
Serral is the greatest SC2 player of all time, he's very dominant, especially in ZvT and ZvP. Maxpax taking a series off of him is very impressive. @Lowko: It's okay to root for the underdog!
@@ObeliskM If Serral didn't exist, Zerg would look downright underpowered in the Aligulac ratings and in terms of tournament results. If you check the results for the 10 most recent Major and Premier SC2 tournaments in Liquipedia, 4 were won by Terran, 4 were won by Protoss, and 2 were won by Serral.
I 100% agree that the reason on why protoss doesn't win as many tourneys is because of the players. If you compare serral & maru to any of the current protoss players, they just aren't at the same level (well maxpax is looking very promising). Though toss is for sure in a worse spot balance-wise aswell, zerg has creep, terran has orbitals, & toss has.... nothing as significant as orbitals and creep.
? PvZ has consistently been _Protoss favored_ for a long time at tournament level, and aligulac proves this. Lowko was referencing Premiere tournaments only, which obviously doesn't provide enough data for balance, because as he said they are a very small number of players. The balance is now close to 50% so in a very good spot, although still slightly Protoss favored.
It's interesting to contrast these "Protoss doesn't win" type impressions with Aligulac's balance stats. According to Aligulac, between January 2021 and today there's been only one month where PvZ hasn't been in Protoss' favour, and PvZ has consistently been the matchup with the most imbalanced winrates. TvZ has generally favoured Terran, but it's been much less unfavourable for Zerg than PvZ and has multiple dips to being Zerg-favoured - this April and May being the two most recent ones. PvT's generally switched the race that's favoured though after Oct 21 it's been evenish or with a small Terran lean. April 23 was clearly Terran-leaning but May was dead even. So it may be that Protoss doesn't win at the very top of the world, but the picture's very different among mere mortals.
That's true. Its the tournament Majors where Protoss dominates, and I would still consider those players beyond us mortals lol. The balance is excellent overall though the past 6 months, averaging within 2 or 3% of 50.
Still not great now at premiers, where toss has been doing much much worse after the last patch. Unsurprisingly, with huge disruptor and shield battery overcharge nerfs for faster forge upgrades.
The reason Protoss doesn't win any tournaments is pretty simple in my opinion. They struggle to defeat a Terran army. Everything in the Terran arsenal counters Protoss so hard. It's a constant uphill battle. Protoss may win a few games but inevitably cant continuously win vs Terran.
I think differences in skill matter more than differences in power level in StarCraft 2. I´ve been watching a lot of my replays and weather I win or loose I can usually find places were me or my opponent could´ve changed the outcome of the game by making small changes to how they played the game.
Wait a minute, i thought maxpax was just serral's offrace? Something is right here... hold while I get my red string and tackboard... i have a mystery to solve
Well played matches but... I'm gonna be honest (this is a common complaint I have with Serral) he gives up too easily. If he believes himself to be at a disadvantage, he taps out right away. Even when it's a small difference or, on occasion, he's not the one at a disadvantage at all, he just thinks he is. He knocks himself out of just as many tournaments as someone else knocks him out. 15:21 "zealots getting a horrible trade" 8 zerglings trading for 8 zealots.... "zerglings with an upgrade beat there counters hardcore" "they do not mess around" ... understatement of the year... this one line showcases inherent bias, it is broken AF, and lowbaiting it like its 'fine'. Anyone thinking its normal for a supposed counter to trade 300% more resources in favour of the countered unit, hasnt learned proper RTS rules. (or is extremely biased), even with a double upgrade lead they should trade normally around the ratios of 100% considering their position. But when a protoss hits a nova "That makes me sick", "i understand people wanting them to get nerfed" etc. yet neglecting every single time in a game when it misses. Or vipers getting abducts off. because THATS what we should consider 'fine good gameplay right? Requiring high tech to be able to beat groups of 25 mineral units because they are 'upgraded', yet nerfing all tech options of protoss in the last few years. Showcases all the problems of Protoss has a race, and also showcase the exact reasoning why protoss is 'underperforming' Aka Underpowered. 26:15 A perfect example of a forced unit required to counter viper, or you straight up lose, no matter your positioning. no matter how big of a lead you have. Your race requires tech to function. Even with it being severely neutered, having one unit to remove all that tech with no proper drawbacks, the viper, forces protoss to delay tech as long as possible, high supply of pure gateway armies with INTENTIONALLY RUSHED upgrades. Why? Because protoss tech is WEAK, underpowered. The army of the protoss consists of 4 collosi (the supposed tech counter of zerglings) 3 immortals (the supposed tech counter vs roaches), High templar,( wich should double down on countering lings) feedbacking vipers, 2 archons wich should always be the main tank of any protoss army vs zerg due to there bonus to everything biological. yet banelings and lings forcing immortals to never hit a single roach, instantly killing the remaining high templar because they are SLOW. (the archons fighting queens for no apparent reason) yet instantly removing the barrier of the immortals when a baneling gets close, after following a quick death thereafter. Collosi not doing bonus damage to banelings is absolutely insane. And only a true zerg fanboy would pretend thats fine gameplay balance. The collosi all fly away into the roach queen meet grinder by a viper. This attack was done DOWN a choke, Yes, the phoenix where dead supply, Yes supply of protoss was very very low. But having so many counter units, down a choke, and losing literally everything, while the enemy traded out there weakest cheapest lowest tech units and lost almost nothing behind it, While the zerg at the same time did economic damage AND can instantly recreate 66 lings. This is just not fair at all. I am not saying zerg shouldnt have won that fight, but it wasnt a fight. It was a massacre, heavily in favour of zerg, Yes, while being ahead in upgrades, still only needing a few tech units out wich hardcarry the entire push. If vipers carry that hard for that low cost, If they have such a big energy pool, why do they also allow them to drain buildings for energy AND not die to a feedback while on full hp? It baffles me people pretend this game is balanced in any way shape or form. Protoss is constantly forced to adapt builds and create new strategies out of thin air, micro there asses off to even get a remotely close trade off. rellying on cheese just to stay afloat. Yet banelings can just "shift + click in a mineral line, OOPS i win" Fully upgraded zerglings alone can whipe a nexus off of a map faster then immortals cost for cost can.. Its absolutely insane these units are so cheap. Yet are so broken fully teched up. Oh and btw. Protoss would LOVE to have a zealot in the main door of the expand, but when you are pushing, and creating tech, You need that tech to be with your army asap. IF they are immortals how do they walk past? Manually forced to move command the zealot and then hold commanding it again every single time one needs to go through? Every. Single. Time. Destroying creep? open door, attacking base while micro stalkers, open door, wait unit to pass, close door, Every single engage where you actually commit? Warpin at nearby warpin point, while simulataniously open and close door while the unit is passing through, while microing stalkers, feedbacking vipers, controlling your zealots so they dont go on field trips alone, Forcefielding, storming, setting up flanks, setting up harrass, All at the same time? Even if a zergs apm would not be inflated by the literally easines of SD spam to create drones. 2 clicks, 20 times = 20 workers = 40 apm. Even if all the zergs top tier apm was used productively, you could not properly Macro and micro at the same time in that state whilst being a protoss. It is THAT much actions per minute on different sides of the map WHILE waiting for immortals to actually pass through AND to perfectly setup a zealot on hold position in a door where half the time it still lets units in?.... I am sorry, but anyone and everyone commenting on zealot walls, dont understand what requirements for protoss you need to force those walls off every time. I agree hero is just neglecting it for the biggest part of his carreer, but that is WHY he excells at microing his units so well. Because he focusses on his army, NOT clicking to another side of the map to unhold a unit to then wait for it to rehold again. Its the permanent aggresive micro, wich gives hero wins. And even if he decimates with his godtier micro, those lings just cost him the game that killed all his workers with a simple split move command.
I didn’t read it all, but you seemed to say that even though the Zerg was much more powerful in a fight they didn’t deserve to win it because your feelings are hurt? … interesting

Your race its the definition of top tier. Lol.
When will Maxpax attend any LAN event 😅
I haven't heard PartinG's name in forever.
Great game. 👍
Serral can actually lose? Oh my god. This is like the first time I've seen him lose since 4 months I've been looking at his matches
Yet banelings can just "shift + click in a mineral line, OOPS i win"
Fully upgraded zerglings alone can whipe a nexus off of a map faster then immortals cost for cost can..
And even if he decimates with his godtier micro, those lings just cost him the game that killed all his workers with a simple split
move command.
I didn’t read it all, but you seemed to say that even though the Zerg was much more powerful in a fight they didn’t deserve to win it because your feelings are hurt? … interesting
@@ferallhamster970 Whats interesting is that you are replying to me, while this was clearly a tl;dr for you.
I said zerg deserves to win. If only it was an actual fight. Not a massacre, where zerg loses nothing.
Also low bait troll much.. my feelings are hurt?
This isnt kindergarten, adults dont troll.
@@Eraz0rZ Mkay maybe what I said was a touch out of line but… unfortunately adults troll all the time.
All I’m gonna say is that this game is in the best state of balance I think it ever has been. While my opinion as a diamond 1-3 with all races is clearly not valid, as my experiences are vastly different to those at the pro league, or even just masters / gm, I do honestly believe it to be balanced.
Considering the times of mass voidray being a guaranteed win (and a boring one at that) and brood lord infestor being a menace, I thi;k the game is pretty healthy in terms of balance at the moment. Just my 2 cents anyway
Max is a god with stasis
