Ive been repairing hurleys the past 4 years myself and i use nails and never had a complaint with them or have never seen them to loosen ... when ur nailing the end pieces of the band use a vice grips helps secure it tight and leaves no sharp edges
Excellent video, being banding my own the same way with a similar tool for a while now, I find the final part with the nail in the bottom a pain as the banding I have is not as pliable, is your steel banding treated in any way prior to use? Thanks.
Thanks. No i use a special banding supplied my Master Mac in Galway which is 0.2mm thick. It is perfect as it is easy to bend around the heel but durable enough to withstand the wear and tear.
@@fragz6204 I made the tensioner myself when I worked in a machine shop. I got a massive roll of banding off a guy I worked with and it was heat treated to make it more pliable. A guy called Martin Dunne fixes hurleys and he sells bits and pieces on adverts.ie
What brand staple gun do you use? I'm hand nailing at the moment but can't keep up with the amount of hurls I'm getting lately. Great video by the way👌🏼
Thanks. I got my gun for a company in Letterkenny, Power Nail gums. Joe McKenna in Limerick does ones suitable for fixing hurleys as well. If you look up APIN they are the crowd who supply the staples they do guns as well.
Great video! Where do you get your staples and what size? Do you think a manual staple gun would have the strength to put them through the band or is compressed nail gun the only way?
I get the staples from a company called Apin Stables in Wicklow, if you google them you will find them. I dont think a manual gun would be any good at all, you need the compressed air to drive them in.
Where did you get your band tensioner and roll of band I’ve a lot of broken hurleys and there’s no place near me to bring them to
For that type of glue do you have to let it sit and dry for a while

Where do you get your staples from?
I band my own hurleys and the band and nails are starting to rust after like 1 week is there anyway to stop that?
It is to do with the type of band you use. If you use special hurley band it wont rust as quickly. Nails need to be galvanised.
Any biscuit jointing?
