My wife hates space themed games, so PR is the winner in our household! As to whether NF is better than PR is a moot point, most games I see on the market are re themed older games with better eye candy, sometimes better written rules, sometimes better components and occasionally an interesting tweak of the rules to make the game more interactive, less luck driven and less “kingmaking “. Those games with the rule changes/tweaks I will seek out to replace the older variant but otherwise a save my money!

I have to agree with you. With the expansion this is the best of all of the designers game. The solo mode is not easy even on the easy scenarios!

I love the base game already more than any in the Puerto Rico or Race FTG families, this is just the cherry on top.

I think I just prefer Roll for the Galaxy + the Ambition expansion.

great stuff, but much more tactical than the strategic experience this offers :)

I love New Frontiers but, after playing Magic the Gathering for over 25 years and hearing people declare "the game is dead" after every minor change, I've reached the conclusion that, as gamers, we tend to be a little dramatic. It's not a better game than Puerto Rico, never has been, never will be. Forget the fact it's over 700 ranks apart on BGG. Forget that PR has sold and keeps selling innumerable more copies. Just look at players ranging from friendly groups to highly competitive scenes to digital platforms. Puerto Rico is far more beloved and played. So it's important , when one makes statements that go against basic, naked eye reality, that they at least accompany it with "in my very humble, highly subjective opinion."

because a thing is more popular doesn't mean it's better. otherwise the transformer movies would be hailed as some of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of all time.
also, regarding your final point, you might have missed the part in this video where i clearly said *_as far as I'm concerned_*_ new frontier is superior to puerto rico_ :)

Why would we always need to say it is our opinion? It goes without saying since we expressing and exchanging opinions here. This makes no sense to me. No one here walks around saying that game X is the best for this or that person. If I love a game I love a game. I will say it is in my Top 10 etc but that has nothing to do with how you feel about it. Asking someone to end every sentence with a „in my humble opinion“ is a complete waste of energy.

@@elqord.1118 oh i agree with ioann that it's always worth making clear that these are subjective opinions, which is why i always do so (and it's ironic that ioann chided me for not doing it, when i always try very hard to ensure that i do) :)

@@rahdo Again with the Transformers thing? Yes, ticket sales don't define quality but neither does one person's opinion. Also, you're missing an extremely important element. The transformers may have sold more tickets during it's time but what footprint did it leave? Who talks about it or watches it 10 years later? Puerto Rico came out in 2002 and is still considered by the community at large to be the 44th best boardgame of all time. How many games can claim that and isn't it dangerously close to arrogant to simply disregard that because, in your subjective view (which includes mostly playing 2 player games, which Puerto Rico isn't) New Frontiers is better? You're entitled to enjoy it more. But if you want to be honest with your audience you have to acknowledge your personal biases and allow for the possibility that many of them would probably find Puerto Rico to be the superior game.

transformers movies are cultural juggernauts that changed the hollywood landscape (for the worse) and we continue to live in their shadow to this day, and they're streamed a LOT regularly. just because you and your friends don't talk about them doesn't mean there aren't millions of people out there who LOVE them.
which again, reiterates my point that your thesis that game A is explicitly "better" than game B because game A is more popular simply doesn't hold water. if you want to judge their merits, talk about the gameplay, the production quality, etc. the fact that the game has been around for a long time and has the power of nostalgia behind it is not a reflection of it's quality relative to other games.
now, if you want to debate the realtive merits of PR vs NF in terms of gameplay, in terms of rules, in terms of art, in terms of actual specific elements that contribute to the quality of the experience, then i'm here for you. but that doesn't seem to be the direction you're interested in, so we're just going in circles here.
and also, again you're ignoring the fact that in the video I explicitly stated i was expressing my personal subjective opinion. i'm not sure why you keep saying i didn't do this when i very much did.
