Im sure youve played it already but Steamworld Dig is $2.50 on Switch right now . Fantastic Metroidvania, but a bit old now. Steamworld 2 is also on sale on Switch for $7.50. Can't go wrong with either.
I can't do randomly generated maps for a Metroidvania... To me it defeats the purpose of the genre. One of the most important aspects of the genre to me is the map and to not have it handcrafted is a huge bummer and let down. I will say though the pixel art is beautiful
@@IndieLad yeah i bought it. Ive played a couple hours already. It's kind of ridiculous how much it rips off the Castlevania formula. But I guess if youre gonna rip off something, go for the best.
My only real complaint about your review is that a lot of the stuff you mentioned are things that are present in damn near every metroidvania. I've never played one that auto saves and almost none of them allow you to influence your character outside of your equipment.
This game is very underrated, i got it as part of a subscription plan of mine packaged with two other indies and never really bothered installing it but man was that a mistake. I was always looking for more metroidvenia hidden gems specifically similar to Symphony of the Night and thus far this is the closest to it, totally try it out!
A few counter points: -Not many Metroidvanias offer a checkpoint system upon death. Most generally send you back to your last save. It's more of the norm in a retro inspired Metroidvania such as Chasm, which is taking nearly all of its queues from Symphony of the Night. -Referencing Symphony once again, as Chasm is clearly emulating it, that is why the RPG mechanics are as they are. It's a fair point to critique that you can't control what stats level up via allocation when you level, however SotN was the same exact way that Chasm does it. -Chasm's biggest fault, which I believed you correctly nailed, was the map. Using SotN again, that game has a gigantic interconnected map where backtracking felt natural. Chasm's map, on the other hand, is fragmented because of the way it was built with the randomized seeds in mind. That randomization hurts the natural flow. -In a counterpoint to your complaint about healing, many mobs and crates early on do drop food items. Apples, carrots, bread, etc.
Chasm and Helldivers are both $10 in the PSN store. I'm deciding between the two right now. Is Chasm worth the 10 bucks if I'm going to play through it once?
I'm between this and that morbid and the 7 acolytes or whatever it's called in more a horror fan and picked up the new lamentum which looks awesome it's a pixel cross of stent hill and resident evil survival horror set in the 18th century
My biggest problem with this game is the expectation to grind. I am not high enough level to beat this spider at the end of the game. But my armor and weapons are so good i 1 shot everything in the game and take 1 damage. But ya use the controler on pc only way to do it.
Also i guess i need to revisit hollow knight and blasphemous because i didnt think chasm was THAT hard but after watching you on this i agree this game is tough as nails lol. I guess when the seasoning is thick......
What other Indie Metroidvanias should I play?
Timespinner!
I'll check it out, thanks!!
Bloodstained
Hollow knight
Ori
Blasphemous

I absolutely adored this game
Didn’t stop playing until I beat it
Made me feel like I was playing a classic SNES games

Its $6 on Switch right now. Trying to decide if I should get it.
I'd say its worth 6 bucks easy

Nice review my man! I just got this game today. It was your video that helped me make my decision. Well done!
Nice! Hope you enjoy it
Arcade mode is where this game shines. Weekly and daily challenges or whatever.
Nice review, keep up the good work!
Thank you!

How long is this game is
I probably got like 25 hours out of it
I heavily enjoy it... that or i was just blessed with a good seed
Nice review!
Thanks Gamer!
Yeah the stats are lame. The defense means nothing when enemies do massive damage
You said it!
chasm is a game where you play as some paladins or some dam shidt lmao
Being a terrible gamer this game definitely is not for me
I suffered through it, I bet you could too!
@@IndieLad I wasn't unable to finish God of War on ps3, on level easy
Great video :-)
Thanks oghu!
