The vengeful ghost. I think that maybe they could have been the very first ghosts. Ancient cultures like that of Japan have a very strong tradition of vengeful ghosts like the Onryo, wronged female ghosts. I believe that China and India have very similar beliefs/traditions. There are roman stories of vengeful ghosts. Perhaps the oldest of all come from Australia, from the dreamtime. Thanks Tony. Always a treat.
The simple truth, Tony, is you're a born storyteller. It's a gift that's been valued by humanity for our entire existence, and no less now. Thanks for these.
The old ways aren't irretrievably lost yet, my friend! Here you are sharing old ghost stories. An Irish witchy friend was sharing today: that in county Leitrim, a Mummers Parade is keeping the old tradition of Mumming alive. We can save the old ways...
Oh I love Jethro Tull! Chester is a nice little town..good vets there..Cestrian vets My lad used to run on the track there in summer season when he was a harrier. Overlooked by the fabulous Lumley Castle..which is very haunted!
Loved this story, Mr. Walker, and the effort and labor you put into verifying different accounts of the same story... But, if you've ever watched Jessica Fletcher on the boobtube, there mighten be a way to absolve poor Walker and Sharp of an almost 400-year-old crime. Let's guess that the miller killed the girl and planted the (stolen articles of clothing) at the crime scene. Then the miller found someone to corroborate his concocted tale of sex and murder (two great elements of most crimes), and the miller sealed the deal with a fabricated story of the appearance of the girl's ghost. People were very gullible and superstitious back then, so I find it possible that the miller contrived the deaths of Walker and Sharp (because there may have already been bad feelings between all three of them). Jessica Fletcher might be proud of me, but you, Master Walker, might not appreciate my poking holes in a truly fascinating ghost story. Many thanks for this fine posting on RUclips. You are the King of Storytellers, if you don't mind my saying.
Came here looking for someone who pointed this out. Well done, you. I'm not a 'ghost denier' by any means, but this story stinks of lies. As you pointed out, it's very well told by the narrator at any rate.
It seems to me that the miller's account was perhaps given unfair benefit of doubt. The two who were executed could very well have been framed. Maybe not, but it sounds fishy to me. Loved the story though. Could be true... I'll keep an open mind.
In the 1600s there was an interim ice age all over Europe with harsh winters, so the river they crossed might have been frozen and they may have crossed it by foot
Gripping, disturbing story, compelling narration , interesting and entertaining commentary. Thank you, Tony!
Excellent as always Tony
Thanks
Oh hey! I was sleeping in the rain! Thank you, Tony! Always awesome to wake to your voice!

Jethro Tull is superb...as is your story telling! Thanks so much.
I love how you look into historical maps and documents and report your findings!
I love any ghost story you choose to share with us!

That was very interesting.
Living in Chester-le-Street I am intrigued
English ghost stories are the best ghost stories. And, your telling of them is even better.

I've found your olde maps of Durham, Tony. I'll shoot you an email from my PC, in the morning. My mobile email is acting punk.
