  • Emma Pollock and Frightened Rabbit's Scott Hutchison have an informal run-through of the song they had just finished writing for the Fruit Tree Foundation. Holed up in a remote Perthshire farmhouse last year and tasked with writing an album's worth of material, a host of Scottish artists came together to form the Fruit Tree Foundation - more info below...
The Fruit Tree Foundation is a new independent project in Scotland led by Emma Pollock (ex-The Delgados) and Rod Jones (Idlewild), in partnership with The Mental Health Foundation, Scottish Wave of Change and Breathing Space Scotland.
The project grew from the annual Scottish Mental Health Arts & Film Festival and aims to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing, challenging negative perceptions of mental health problems through the creation of great art and music. The Fruit Tree Foundation pulled together some of the most exciting talents in Scottish music and challenged them to form unique pairings and collaborations, writing an album's worth of material of a few days in an isolated Perthshire farmhouse.
The results were, perhaps not surprisingly, outstanding and formed the album 'First Edition' which was recorded at Chem19 Studios and originally made available at two special live shows around the Festival in 2010.
Chemikal Underground is now bringing the album to a wider audience with a limited number of CDs available through independent retail, the Chemikal Underground Online Shop and of course available to download via iTunes etc. A share of the proceeds will go to The Mental Health Foundation.
    The Fruit Tree Foundation are:
Emma Pollock, Rod Jones, James Graham (Twilight Sad), Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit), Alasdair Roberts, James Yorkston, Jill O' Sullivan (Sparrow and the Workshop), Karine Polwart and Jenny Reeve (Strike The Colours).
