- This homeowner called me out for a crawl space assessment. There was surface mold covering all the joists under the house. I gave him an honest opinion on buying the house and made a video for his reference. Since the mold was dry and dormant, I told him we would have good results with remediation, but I never thought the results would be this good!
Hey Shawn keep doing what you're doing, you seem like a decent guy I like your honesty, god bless you and your team.
Thank you, Thanks for watching! - Shawn
Shawn, love how you have expanded the type of work you do.
Thank you! We are doing another one of these today!
@@GCFD Awesome to hear. Wish we could get you up near Elkin to do some work for us.
@@ncironhorse8367 I’m going to do a ‘crawlspace safety’ themed video on this job so maybe you can get some ideas.
Just discovered your channel and love it. I’m in Transylvania county NC where we get 80 to 100” if rain annually so what I am learning is very valuable. Thanks for the videos!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching! - Shawn
I hope you followed it up with RMR141 to kill the mold. RMR 86 removes the stains, but that's it. RMR141 is an EPA approved fungicide and mildewside and must be sprayed liberally on all surfaces that RMR 86 was used on.
Extremely useful information. I now know that I am on the right track with your video shawn. 3/18/24. Thank you for posting
If you don't control humidity in that crawlspace, the mold is just going to come back. Should seal the vents and encapsulate the crawlspace and install a dehumidifier.
This crawl was dry and this was old mold. If there was persistent moisture I would agree with you!
Good video, looks like there could be lots of mold spores. Probably should be hepa vacuumed or fogged with concrobium
Great idea!
Doesnt kill mold, just removes the stains. You need to apply a fungicide after. So many people dont realize this!
Yep, its kind of worrying that people that do this for a job don't know something like that
The rmr86 is the stain remover, the rmr141 is the disinfectant
Why do I always see people use rmr86 first. Shouldn’t RMR141 be used first to kill the mold and then RMR86 to remove the stains ?
@user-tw2uo7kr6y yes the directions say 141 first then 86 , I always did 2-3 coats of each switching back & forth
@@Cristian-hu9bxyeah man I just asked this and no one knows! I thought the 141 is the mold killer, i figured you follow up with end 86?!
Called the company and asked them directly. RMR 86 is applied first, THEN the RMR 186. 86 cleans and removes the stains, it allows for a cleaner surface to apply the fungicide so that it gets on where it needs to go
My crawl space does have some dry dusty mold like in the beginning of video. Is that an issue for me?
need a vapor barrier on the dirt floor.plastic sheeting and fine rock to hold plastic down.
Have you ever looked at doing a dry ice blasting method on mold?
I've never heard of that...
Hi! I love your videos. You obviously have high standards. That's difficult to find. I wish you operated out of Northern Virginia. I tried concrobium in my crawl space and attic, but it didn't get rid of the smell or the stains. Everyone says to not use bleach-based products, but the RMR products seem to speak for themselves. I was wondering if when you applied it if the runoff corroded the plastic vapor barrier. I have a new vapor barrier and I don't want it to get ruined.
No the vapor barrier was fine. Make sure you have several air movers (fans) set up for ventilation. This is a rough job with the RMR. But it works extremely well.
Really appreciate your video.
Thanks
clean, paint and add more vents so air can get in
what was the application method? spray or brush?
Spray with a garden sprayer. Make sure wear a full respirator.
It’s a stain remover NOT a mold remover
Exactly. I sprayed RMR 86 and once dry, coated it with RMR 141 and dried everything. That combo works awesome. People don't understand bleach won't penetrate the wood, but RMR141 will and kill the mold roots.
Hey can I get fired for failing a clearance
👍
Funny how people fear mold, but are ok with someone spraying “a chemical” that kills mold…. Not picking at this guy at all. Just seems odd to me.
So true ! and the guy shows the stain remover as the mold remover . I give props for his analysis but the RMR product clearly says mold stain remover
