    This video is great. I could not work out how to thread for cover stitch by just looking at the diagrams. When I see it done in motion it was a great help. Thanks.

    What is the pig tail guide prior to the chain looper for?

    • @BerninaInternational
      @BerninaInternational  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Sara, the pig-tail guide prior to the chain looper eye is to be threaded for chainstitching (not for coverstitching) as is shown in the video at time 6:56. It adds a little more tension to the chain looper thread, as for chainstitch, there is less thread needed than for coverstitch, where the stitch width requires more looper thread to allow for the seam to lie flat, respectively relax after being stretched.

    After you put the thread through the chain-stitch looper, and re-engage the chain-stitch looper where does that thread go?

    • @BerninaInternational
      @BerninaInternational  8 лет назад +1

      +Jessica Faulkner Dear Jessica, After threading the chain-looper thread into the looper eye and re-engaging thechain-stitch looper, cut the thread back to about 10cm (4”) and have it hanging just inside the machine. Close all covers (the thread just hangs in the looper area inside the machine). Start sewing the test-sew seam. After a few stitches you will notice that the thread is tangled in the first stitches. Starting threads can be cut back (or secured if required) but following stitches secure first stitches.
      This is shown in more detail in the recently released how-to video series of the BERNINA L 220. It can be used as reference for sewing coverstitch, you may want to check:
      ruclips.net/video/zBZjQYCLWew/видео.html
      Refer to video 2, threading, subchapter test sewing.
      Kind regards from Switzerland

    @elslec The coverstitch plate came standard with the 1300DC and is also a standard part of the 1300MDC. You can certainly re-order it at your BERNINA dealer.

    Does Bernina 1300 DC comes with coverstitch extension plate? I bought this older model but it didn't come with it, so I could not use the coverstitch.

    Great video, especially for threading! When I have my 1300 threaded for cover stitch, I get great results - on wovens. When I try it on Lycra, however, I'm getting terrible results. It skips stitches, only grabs one needle thread or doesn't form a stitch at all. I'm using the new ELX705 CF needles but I get the same results with the old JLX2 needles as well. Also the cover stitch needles available seem to be very heavy and not ball points. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

      Hi Lorena, to prevent skipped stitching on lycra, try the special needles provided with the 1300MDC, i.e. JLx2 needles size 90 or alternatively ELx705CF needles size 90, also refer to manual page 11 standard accessories and page 21 needles and page 84, trouble shooting.
      Which foot are you using sewing coverstitch? Did you try the compensating toe foot, refer to manual page 11, item 16 of standard accessories - helps guiding along uneven layers, sewing in elastic or so, see also manual page 17.
      Your feedback is appreciated!
      Kind regards from Steckborn

      I am using ELx705cf needles, size 90. Presser foot pressure is M. I am only trying to hem, so there are 2 very even layers. When I sew o a supported cotton, I get a perfect cover stitch. When I switch over to the lycra, without changing anything, I get a chain stitch under the right needle. I'm really frustrated.

      Hi Lorena,
      we're sorry to hear that you still have troubles with cover sewing on lycra. Did you try to adjust the thread tension of the right needle slightly and also to adjust the tension of the looper thread slightly? Did you try the other presser foot pressures? If the coverstitch needles do not help, you may also try jersey needles: 130/705H SUK, size 80 or 90. If your thread is thinner, even a size 70 could work. Please also try sewing with a different choice of thread and a different lycra to check if it is a material quality thing (as it works on woven fabric). You may also try to increase the fabric stability by using spray starch or water soluble stabilizer or a stabilizer in the seam. Ifall of this doesn't help, please visit your BERNINA dealer. He will be happy to help you.
      Kind regards from Steckborn

      You have to use stretch needles on knits!!!! It's always important to match needles to fabric type! I have stretch needles in my coverstitch right now, although I have ordered the ELx705. They work wonderfully on knits, no skipped stitches at all!!! I have schmetz stretch 90/14 in there.
