When we were in Rome our room was unique they use hand towels for wash cloths. The doors in our room were about 12 feet tall. And we had to hand in our room cards when we went out, and the lights wouldn't work unless you had your room inserted in a slot
This honestly may be the best travel video I have seen in years. You are traveling the way I love, with just enough resources to make it fun and enjoyable, but deeply embedded in the life of the area. The little places, the fun surprises, the hilarious moments ("You mean I have to back up this street?"). Thank you for making such awesome content.
I was hoping the video was about driving the Amalfi Coast. Having done it myself I was wondering how Americans would manage the traffic, narrow roads and hairpin bends. Thankfully, they had the good sense to drive a small car, which made it that bit easier.
I lived in northern Italy (Vicenza) for three years in the mid 1970's. My husband was in the military. Before we had our baby there, we bought a Moto Guzzi (touring bike) and traveled on it to Rome, Pisa, Livorno. My husband has since passed and our beautiful daughter is now a mother of teens. Thank you for taking me back to my young adulthood, a lifetime ago. Somehow my tears are bringing me happiness. Thank you so much...
You are good people, real travellers. Evaluate the places without prejudices, stereotypes and clichés, then it is normal that throughout the world there are places with positive and negative aspects.
Spent many years in a reserve unit based in Sicily. The only issue I had driving was the gas pumps. Fortunately, they always had attendants, or I would have filled my car with diesel more than once. Driving in the countryside is an experience when you are suddenly surrounded by sheep that come out of nowhere to cross the street, The architecture is amazing. You drive along the base of a cliff, and somehow someone built a town into the cliff. No wasted space at all.
It is impossible to fill benzine cars with diesel, the nozzles have different sizes (diesel ones are bigger than benzine) so diesel can't go in benzine tanks, however the other way around is easier. If you're in doubt check the codes or ask
we pay attention, but we are aggressive, because we know speed traps, we know how it works, going 60 on a 50 street wich connects like 2 major cities (i'm from Rome, so the street in example is SS2) is still not good (even though there are a lot of speed traps), we go like 100 on a 50 street 😅😅.
I admire your ability to pivot when needed. You're absolutely right, sometimes Plan B (or "unplanned B") can be more wonderful. Thanks for bringing us all along.

We fell in love with Italy 6 years ago. We've been back 5 times with most of our time in Venice. Driving was fun however we had an Audi 6 which made us one of the biggest cars on the road. I really enjoyed driving, the wife, not so much! I still have bruises on my right arm from her, driving suggestions! Enjoy!!!
That tip was spot on lol. My lovely wife taught me another one early on in our 1st year of marriage. When you share one food item the person who splits it gets second pick. Keeps you honest and usually a quick smile shared between us.
We just returned from Alaska! You were our inspiration! We had some minor "dips" but loved the trip! We left Spokane WA on June 1 and returned to the lower 48 on September 9th. On our trip we referred to your videos at each stop! We went on the Talon Air and LuLuBelle tours! We also went on the canoe trip to Valdez Glacier and so much more! Our plan after full-time travel in our Airstream (we have been on the road for 3 years) was Europe...stay for 6 months to a year....Now we will have your videos of Italy to take with us! Trish you are the most joyful person...it is so refreshing! Bravo to KYD...
"The trains in Europe are amazing...", I agree. Way more comfortable than a plane. Unbelievably fast, and first class is affordable for regular people.
Trains are amazing but first class is not affordable for italians, i need one day of my salary for stay on the train one hour in first class, its a good price for foreigners only. Regional trains are ceaper but always late, smelly, dirty, aircon always broken on summer and cold on winter.

Trish's narration really added to this video. 👍 Fun fact: The military uses a female gps voice because people tend to pay more attention than they do to a mans voice. Female instruction tends to keep the audience more focused.
We had similar driving experiences. Using a gps turned onto a road with high walls on each side. Slowly they became closer over the miles until we were driving at 1mph with the mirrors folded in to keep from hitting the walls. I was never so happy in my driving years to finally come upon a main road.

Going with a spontaneous Plan B is one of my favourite life lessons, in travel and in life! This was probably my favorite video of any you've ever done. This trip looks absolutely amazing, and the marriage tips are the end are just a bonus. I have the feeling the sadness you experienced about an empty nest will go away quickly. lol
This brought back the whole ambiance of my trip to Tuscany when I stayed in a 500 yr old monastery for 15 EU a nite! My door had a fresco over it….I would have suggested you see the Cinque Terre - maybe would have been similar to Amalfi coast I think, but when you decided on Puglia I’ve always wanted to see those little stone huts and your room was very cool. I rented a Smart Car that had ads all over it, so I stuck out like a tourist, but the driving on narrow roads was easier because of it! Chao!
I have always wanted to go to Rome to feel the history and see the art, but your trip is making me want to change the itinerary and see more of Italy! I get the impression that you don't care for Rome though, I hope you give us your itinerary at the end and your opinion of the highs and lows. thank you!

I drove in Italy back in 2014, before Google Maps, for a 2 week vacation. I just had the old fashion paper road maps & a good navigator. I found parking in the larger cities more difficult to find or cost a fortune. I also drove in Ireland for a month and put 3,000 miles on the rental car…now that was interesting! When I got home, I found myself driving on the left side of the road a couple of times…
What a great tip for a happy marriage. I thought it was just me that had to snag my “half” before hubby snarfed down the whole thing. Looks like a great trip.
Such a great episode , thank you. For an European like me it’s so much fun to learn about an American perspective on a country you know. And you added new points on my „want to go to“ map. Apulia is a must for sure. Seems you missed Ercolano and Pompeji, perhaps next time.
Just got back from Italy, rented a stick shift to drive from Rome to Montepulciano and then to Florence, was incredibly intense due to all the mountains and what not. Then rented a second car in Florence to drive to Chianti region, it was automatic and it made driving in Italy a breeze. Oh failed to mention that I didn’t take toll roads on the first car trip so it took me through some interesting places. I would recommend getting an automatic car if possible unless you have been driving stick in that kind of terrain for years.
Stick shift can be an additional problem when you drive in unknown places. Automatic gear let me enjoy Cyprus since they drive on the left, and I had to tuck myself into narrow allleys in town.
I just want to say this whole Italy segment has been so refreshing, especially after the big P word had the whole world at a standstill. Molto bene 🇮🇹!
The end was the best part of this video. People who have been married a while know their partner. Last month as my wife and mother-in-law were pulling back into our campsite, I got up from my chair to guide my wife so she didn't hit the hitch. I just nodded my head when she needed to stop and my MIL got a kick out of how with such little input, my wife knew what I meant. She was expecting hand signals and talking. For the rest of the day, we would just nod at eachother randomly and do something for the other just to mess with her😂
Wow, what a trip! I love how you applied lessons learned RVing to a change of plans on your trip! Driving definitely looks like the way to see Italy! Great video!
All those stone rooftops at 12:24 sind sehr Prima! The cathedral was beyond words; truly magnificent. What an amazing journey, and having your own car with working Google would definitely simplify traveling overseas. Thanks so much for sharing - and don't forget to share those chips lol.

The guided forget or omitted that Los Angeles is very linked to Assisi. In fact the extend name of the city is El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina Virgen de los Ángeles del Río de la Porciúncula de Asís. In italian "Il villaggio di Nostra Signora la Regina Vergine degli Angeli del fiume della Porziuncola d'Assisi"
What a great video. Love Italy! We usually drive half of our vacations overseas. It sure is a different experience but one you really don’t want to miss.
This comment is a couple of weeks late as I just watched the video. Great job on capturing Assisi! I really enjoyed Assisi when I was there in 2010. I will always regret not being able to see inside the Basilica as I was there on Oct 4th St Francis feast day. The Basilica was busy & full with dignitaries & media. Great town to walk around in! I’m glad you both enjoyed it!!
Man the memories. Was so blessed to be stationed in Italy fours in San Vito dei Normanni. Within two minutes at 2:06 you took me back with the panini and Aerbello bello.
I did a little driving in Italy, but not much. I was driving from France through the tunnel under Mount Blanc and into Italy, through the mountains, stopping for dinner, and then back to France again. It was not any different than driving the mountain rural roads in Colorado or northern Arizona. We did not venture into any little towns like you did. But, but I can honestly say that I have driven in Italy (Just barely!)
wonderful I happen to get this video in the home, how exciting to see the roads that I myself travel in the summer when I go out with friends, taken from another point of view.
I'm so excited to see this series. Back in June I booked for next may to spend 2 weeks in Italy a week in Tuscany then a week in bari. I'm super excited. I am bringing my daughter and invited multiple friends. All they have to do is get there and housing and car rental is on me. I figured if I'm going I might as well go big enough to share. 😊
Go to Salento (a part of the region), Lecce (like Florence), Otranto, Ostuni, Gallipoli, Alberobello, Santa Maria di Leuca... and don't forget Matera, near to the region, the most beautiful place in the Earth
I'll never make it anywhere out of the Midwest...well except my one trip to New York city way back in 1994 with my church...oh and a trip to DC in 1997 for a conference with an organization I volunteer for. Anyway thank you for taking us along. Love the narrow side streets.
What a beautiful episode. Paying for tours seems to be a must, if you want to really understand the history. Some of the stones in those buildings are older than our country. Loving this series but, miss Caleb too 🤣

You put it perfectly when saying forget what you know and go with the flow if you are driving Italy.
You guys are having so much fun on this adventure in Italy and I'm enjoying all of it too.
I feel like i find the BEST places to eat/stay/do when I just stumble across them! The most wonderful philosophy - just open yourself to the universe and it will provide some of the most incredible experiences 🧡
So beautiful there!! Omgosh!!! I absolutely love the scenery gorgeous!!
Trish should do some pictures there for her next magazine.
As an Italian living in Italy I really appreciate both of you and your content! You made a great job! Always keep up your smile! ☺
Thank you!
Having been to Assisi and walked the life of St. Francis, I was changed from the experience, I can only hope you come away with new and appreciable thoughts. Chow! (Ciao).
Margarita in hand, was looking forward to your video all evening! You both are so funny. I love you were able to take this well deserved trip and with friends, can’t wait to see the coopers next Sunday, thank you for another great video.
Beautiful. We haven’t been to Italy in 13 years… It’s time to come back. The tips at the end of this video… Spot on! Enjoy your travels.
I so enjoy spending Sundays with you guys ! It makes mondays so bearable 😊 Safe Travels ❤️🤍💙
Happy Sunday funday KYD family!! St Francis de Assisi was my saint when I had my Confirmation. I will definitely visit there. And I live in Santa Clara in CA
Hilarious ending! So glad you guys are having such fun!
Beautiful video of Italy! Thanks for taking us along!!
I have no desire to visit Italy... BUT, if the need arose, I would not want to visit without Marc and Trish at my side. You guys make it seem very fun AND educational. Bravo to you!
Ex-pat living in Assisi. Glad you liked visiting my town. It is truly beautiful, as is much (all 😊) of Italy.
One of our highlights of the entire trip.
This is your chance! Clooney is selling his place in Italy for only $100M.
Then they could start a channel doing them trips in a caravan 😂🤣
Love the energy you both have for each other it is very nurturing and loving, and yes Trish the happy marriage tip was one i also learnt but i must say i may be a little more forward hahahahah (we are lovingly 41yrs married)
Wow…cheers from Italy, you are both fantastic and a beautiful couple. Outstanding video!
What a nice couple! I'm happy that you've enjoyed Italy!
Sidenote.....I'm amazed at how wrinkle-free you guys are while living out of suitcases. Kudos.
Bravi! This is the way to travel around Italy. It was lovely to see you capture the journey from Naples to Alberobello - I know those roads so well from our annual visits to Puglia. Anyway, do come and say Hi when you're next in Tuscany! David
I can’t believe you didn’t go to Matera! You were so close!
The guided forget or omitted that Los Angeles is very linked to Assisi. In fact the extend name of the city is El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina Virgen de los Ángeles del Río de la Porciúncula de Asís. In italian "Il villaggio di Nostra Signora la Regina Vergine degli Angeli del fiume della Porziuncola d'Assisi"
I used to love driving in Italy for my job as a truck driver ❤ beautiful countryside and great food wine and coffee. Thx for this video ❤
I cried when I saw pics of the inside of the church and could only imagine how you guys felt.... Beautiful Your two are so funny..hehe
What a great video. Love Italy! We usually drive half of our vacations overseas. It sure is a different experience but one you really don’t want to miss.
So fun to watch you guys have fun in Italy!
Thanks for taking us to Italy with you!! So beautiful. 😊❤️
Loved hearing the Google map tip!!!! 20 years back had my own driving in rome experience.....and let me just say i felt Marks pain backing up!!!!
Just charming, awesomely so. It gave me a big heart squeeze. Thank you very much for sharing with and inspiring us.
wonderful I happen to get this video in the home, how exciting to see the roads that I myself travel in the summer when I go out with friends, taken from another point of view.
Before watching this I wanted to go to Italy. Now I need to go. Lovely video and vibe from you both!
You have amazing drive skills...in those narrow town roads it is easy to panic when having to reverse!
I'll never make it anywhere out of the Midwest...well except my one trip to New York city way back in 1994 with my church...oh and a trip to DC in 1997 for a conference with an organization I volunteer for. Anyway thank you for taking us along. Love the narrow side streets.
Ciao ragazzi. Thanks for the beautiful description you gave of my hometown Assisi. And thanks for showing me while guiding.
Trish: Use Google Maps
Mark: Is this a Street? 🤣
What a beautiful episode. Paying for tours seems to be a must, if you want to really understand the history. Some of the stones in those buildings are older than our country. Loving this series but, miss Caleb too 🤣
Driving in Italy is far safer than driving in Vancouver, B C, Canada, my hometown and yes I have driven in Italy.
Trish’s face during “the backup”!!!!!😂😂😂
The better side of tourism. Glad you enjoyed southern and central Italy.
