  • Luke Ferrell is a New Jersey-based theater practitioner, specializing in stage direction, and a proud of Rutgers University with a B.A. in Theater Arts and minors in History and Human Resource Management. At Rutgers, Luke was the Artistic Director of Cabaret Theatre and an Instructor for three undergraduate seminars for first-year students, before graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 3.9 GPA. Luke has since returned to work at his alma mater as a coordinator for the First-Year Interest Groups Seminar program, working to train aspiring undergraduate educators, who will shape the first-year experience for hundreds of incoming freshmen.
In the theater world, Luke’s work has been focused in stage direction and arts education. Luke has extensive experience directing for the stage from community to collegiate theatre, and everything in between. Some directorial credits include: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Porch Light Productions), Songs for a New World (Ferrell Studios), Sweet Charity (The Livingston Theatre Company), Ideation (Cabaret Theatre), The Last Five Years (Ferrell Studios), Alice in Wonderland (Highland Park High School), Puffs (Highland Park High School), just to name a few. His training and unique approach to stage direction includes a collaborative process of crafting in which the actor engages in a variety of exercises to gain a comprehensive understanding of the world of the character in the context of the actor's own experience and truth. Aside from his coaching of actors, Luke finds ensemble building an integral part of an effective rehearsal environment. His work in managing actors and staff is grounded in trust, empathy, and communication. Luke primarily aligns his instruction and coaching with the methodologies of Konstantin Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, and Sanford Meisner but sees the value in drawing on a variety of acting methodologies to best cater to the most effective and truthful portrayal of the work.
In his work as teaching artist, Luke has taught students ages 6-18 in the areas of acting, musical theater, public speaking, and technical theatre, having coached the students of the Middletown Arts Center (Middletown, NJ), Porch Light Studios (Glen Rock, NJ), and Fresh Theatre Arts (Highland Park, NJ), just to name a few. He also works with students privately offering lessons in acting and audition preparation.
Most notably, Luke is the Founder and Artistic Director of Ferrell Studios, a New Jersey based performing arts studio offering affordable and accessible arts education and programming both virtually and in the New Brunswick, NJ area. Learn more about Ferrell Studios at www.ferrellstudios.com.
