      Grow a brain pal. His head never impacted the wall. The brace on top of the cars is designed so that if they roll over their heads have room.

      Except the roll hoop pierced the wall (and was torn off). His helmet had impact marks on it and his collar bone was broken by his shoulder bouncing off the asphalt.

      Adrenaline is THE best drug. Crazy how the body can make you forget the pain and somewhat the fear you get afterwards when adrenaline drops again... I crashed a gokart once at the end of the straight at 95 km/h. Locked the rear brakes and it jerked to the left and got grip again and accelerated into the wall at 75, (no seatbelt remember) slammed my helmet into the stearing wheel and proceeded to drive around a couple of laps until I went back to the pits when the adrenaline from driving and crashing went down... Luckily it wasn't a head on crash as I still had some sideways momentum but was still a hard hit...

      I once saw a driver who was way in the lead hit the pit wall and stop in the middle of the circuit. The pack came charging up behind and he managed to get out and get over the wall and was standing up against the garages in the pit lane. Doctor was there when suddenly he screamed and fell down. Apparently the adrenaline kicked in for him to get out of the car to safety yet when it ebbed away he had pain in his leg and found he had broken his femur

      I was there too. I came in from Washington DC for the race and was so bummed out after Saturday night (I knew that the track could not dry just from looking at the weepers coming out of turn 4) I resigned myself that I was going to miss the race having a late morning fligh back home. Then at the airport with the boarding pass on me and waiting for the flight to board...again, really bummed out...I looked at the weather slightly improving and made the panicked decision at about 11:15 am to book the latest (and expensive) flight out of Dallas/Fort Worth on my phone app and run out of the terminal and flag down a taxi to take me to the speedway...I don't regret that for a second, believe me...and I'll be back on August 27th. ANYWAY...thanks for enduring my airport story.

      I was in the tunnel under the track when Francois crashed...I remember it sounded like the tearing of cardboard really loud,...I headed back towards the track out of the tunnel and Emmo was out of his car (gorgeous black and gold JPS car) and it seemed he was angry...I looked over at the guardrail and could see it was split open...but I thought that's not enough room for a F1 car to go through....I knew by now Francois had been involved in a terrible crash. I walked over and they had sheets hung around the remains of the car and Francois....people were picking up parts...a mirror...it made me sick because I knew this was bad. A doctor or whatever walked out and puked...shaking his head....I knew that Cevert had gone through that split in the guardrail like a space 2-3 ft....he was gone....really put s damper on the Grand Prix race. I walked back towards Emmo and he wanted no part of it....slammed his helmet into the cockpit and sped off...anger was all I could see...I wasn't about to try and talk to him...terrible day.....for Elf, for Watkins Glen....for Jackie Stewart....

    It's been said before, and I'll say it again: That Dallara chassis is one hell of a lifesaver! Shame it wasn't there for Dan Wheldon - and tragically ironic that he test-drove it prior to his fatal crash at Vegas (in the previous generation car).

      @@jeffreyvences5746 Actually... I'm not so sure. Although his career was ended as a result, Dario Franchitti survived an eerily similar crash on a STREET circuit (ie. No SAFER barrier, no predefined grooves, tighter lines, etc) that was powerful enough to throw some of the catch fencing dozens of feet into the air (1:01 of this video: ruclips.net/video/j37p0e6daF0/видео.html). Despite his serious injuries, he's here today because of the Dallara DW12. He speaks about it in this video: ruclips.net/video/j37p0e6daF0/видео.html
      Do I think Dan Wheldon would have been seriously hurt? Absolutely! Do I think he would have died? That... I'm not so sure.

    • @2colossery
      @2colossery 4 месяца назад +1

      @TheEDFLegacy I think it's way to speculative. Wheldon hit his head, essentially dying of blunt force trauma. Franchietti suffered a concussion and spinal fractures. The only similarities are really that they both went into the catch fence. But the resemblance stopped there.
      What could had saved Wheldon was head protection systems like the HALO/windscreen we see today.

      ina stormydaze - the rear tires lost traction in the turn, spinning the back of the car out... the driver then attempted to recover by steering into the skid (turned the front wheels back to the right to correct the slide). The front tires had great traction, however, resulting in an ‘over correction’, which cut his car straight in front of the car to the right of him. Classic mistake. Watch the horrible example of Gordon Smiley at Indianapolis (BAD fatal) and hear Jackie Stewart’s explanation.

    Nah, the NHRA Safety Safari is the best safety crew out there. They would have been rolling up as the cars came to a stop. There, ready, when they stopped.

      I want to say that this race was postponed to Monday due to rain which is why the crowds are so few.

    • @gagemcpherson4454
      @gagemcpherson4454 6 лет назад

      It was initially a Saturday night race got rained out then this was on a Sunday it started to pour again cleaning up this wreck so they came back and finished the remaining of the race 2 months later in August and Graham Rahal beat out Hinchcliffe in a photo finish amazing last 10 laps

    why do they have doors on the safety vehicles? seems like the safety cars should pull up to the crash and people just get out to help the driver(s)

    • @msnovtue
      @msnovtue 6 лет назад

      Because it's far too expensive to custom build a vehicle just for this use. Plus, the doors are specially reinforced to stand up to a potential racecar impact, which can and has happened in the past.

    Maybe next year they can give away tickets or pay people to come to see this race.There's nobody there.

    • @ChiefShibaInu
      @ChiefShibaInu 6 лет назад

      It was filled the first day but it got postponed for 5 hours cause of rain and they moved it to the next day and then after that crash it rained. So they moved the race to August which was 2 months away. So basically give or take 250 people was there.

      They added the halo in F1 because Jules Bianchi tried driving underneath a tractor in Japan.

    Looks like they were getting an early start on social distancing. The crowd must have consisted of nothing more than a couple hundred people.

    If Halo were in Indy, would it be a protection or could it become a weapon in this collision since neither the Santantonio did not survive?

    • @justarandomguy4873
      @justarandomguy4873 4 года назад

      It depends of the crash
      I guess in this accident, it would protect the driver, but would be seriously damaged, because the halo is connected on the sides of the santantonio

    • @OneSkiWonder
      @OneSkiWonder 5 лет назад

      EMS Can't roll until the scene is considered safe or secured. And then, they need to be told that they're safe to roll. Believe me, it's a seriously shitty experience to know that you could be helping, but due to the scene not being considered safe, you have to sit back and hope no one dies before you're allowed in.
