Luckily it wasn't a head on crash as I still had some sideways momentum but was still a hard hit...
I once saw a driver who was way in the lead hit the pit wall and stop in the middle of the circuit. The pack came charging up behind and he managed to get out and get over the wall and was standing up against the garages in the pit lane. Doctor was there when suddenly he screamed and fell down. Apparently the adrenaline kicked in for him to get out of the car to safety yet when it ebbed away he had pain in his leg and found he had broken his femur
I was there too. I came in from Washington DC for the race and was so bummed out after Saturday night (I knew that the track could not dry just from looking at the weepers coming out of turn 4) I resigned myself that I was going to miss the race having a late morning fligh back home. Then at the airport with the boarding pass on me and waiting for the flight to board...again, really bummed out...I looked at the weather slightly improving and made the panicked decision at about 11:15 am to book the latest (and expensive) flight out of Dallas/Fort Worth on my phone app and run out of the terminal and flag down a taxi to take me to the speedway...I don't regret that for a second, believe me...and I'll be back on August 27th.
