I had fights with my parents that if anyone overheard them they would be shocked. I was never violent and did not curse at them but I am neither violent nor cursed at anyone. In the last decade of my parents life I was the child that took care of my parents, saw them every day and at times stayed with them giving up many aspects of my own life. I don't regret it. My parents were good parents but they could drive me crazy. Sometimes it is difficult to view family dynamics from the outside. Not excusing any violence, but then again I have not a drop of violent temperament ever which is unusual for a male. Just saying that the Ross and Elliot family may have challenges that are difficult to comprehend in that we actually do not know them and also, this incident was a long time ago And I would not trust a media account to be entirely accurate and watch out for narratives even if the facts are recorded correctly.

Everytime we visited them, I would cry all the way home. So, I now have no contact with my kids. It's been 4 years.
@@Dee-wd8li I'm sorry to hear your story...truly. My son went to Junior College and started at a nearby University. He had been working part-time since age 16; and he made the decision to leave school and work full-time. He went through some rocky years, spending too much time with a woman he thought he could save from a bad environment. At age 35, he met the young woman he would marry; he has been at the top of management with the same firm he began his employment all those years ago. His father and I are grateful. Wish you well; never give up. 💗
I fought with my parent all the time. In their old age I was the child that was there for them and visited or stayed with them nearly every day. Shockingly, I was the one they picked to handle their money; the one they always thought could not handle my own money. Overall, by the way, the child that sees both good and bad in his parents and speaks up to them is generally in the end a healthier adult. Not saying this is true for you. Although what I said is true, personality types must be considered. Certain children do not have the nature to speak up to anyone unless they are gravely upset whereas others need to express their emotions all the time. So assuming you did a good job, your children may have been the type to be agreeable and you gave them no cause to express anger. I can tell you if you were my parents, I would have found something. I was a loving son but didn't hesitate to advocate for my own interests. This came in handy as my parents began navigating old age and needed my personality type to be a guard dog and fight off those that would attempt to take advantage of them and had to ensure they received proper medical care at all times. They were very happy with my skill in those last years.
Yes.. this makes me suspect mental health issues and I'm sure MS Ross is well aware of this. . It is sad that people are quick to fault someone when they don't really know the whole story and it is easy to jump to conclusions. Mental Health issues are often not easy to recognize as it can seem like personality differences . Diagnosing MH often takes some time before these " personality quirks " are realized as MH issues. ...people are often not diagnosed until they are young adults.. but the problems have been going on for years. I'm sure she loves her daughter and has suffered greatly by her inability to help and understand her. ... but these problems are not an easy fix. I wish the family well and hope all find peace.
I've always thought Katharine Ross is such a beautiful woman & enjoyed her movies. The terrible situation with her daughter is so sad. A mother should never have to experience such hurt from her own child.
I am a big fan of Katherine Ross & to hear about this is so sad & disturbing especially when it’s your child trying to hurt you …. Beyond heartbreaking
The daughter is quite beautiful albeit not as much in the pink hair photos. She has a model type look. They are both older now and may get along well. Mother and daughter are MaryAnn and Ginger types, the daughter being the tall model type. I hope they are both doing well at that point. Conflicting personality types strain relationships but often find peace eventually.

Thank you. 1. I kept wondering about the commentary. a)Did you interview Katherine or read her autobiography? b) There's much assuming and jumping to why/how/when. 2. And you didn't list that Katherine was one of the stars on The Colbys. The spinoff of Dynasty; it was a weekly series for two years. Charles Heston played her husband, and he was Barbara Stanwyck, the matriarch.
Apart from inheriting her father’s height, there is such a resemblance between Ross and her daughter. I don’t know why but in my mind that somehow makes the stabbing worse, maybe as if the daughter was attacking herself…
Thanks for a great video. Hollywood's Golden Age was from 1930-1960. In recent years people mistake the 60's and 70's as the Golden Age. It's was the beginning of Hollywood's modern age of cinema.
Growing up in the 60s and 70s, I loved Katherine Ross. Another source said Cleo had bouts of violence in her childhood. While celebrity status could play a role in Cleo's behavior, it seems like she has mental health issues that need to be attended to. Sad that Cleo was Katherine's only child. Despite that, she seems to be enjoying a creative life.
She also played in "Shenandoah" and "Conagher". My daughter tried to attack me one time with a fork. We had problems for years and years. She is now 45, and we have a great relationship.

Some parents have this idea that if you don't measure up to their standards, you are worthless and worse than that, you are left out. I haven't spoken to my mother face to face in almost ten years. One of the most hurtful things she said, (many times), was "You should throw away the first two, those were your mistakes." I am the oldest of four and my brother and I were her mistakes as she called us. The younger two siblings were perfect in her eyes. No wonder I am estranged from them. When I left the family no one said anything, didn't try to understand or even ask why. They knew why and they didn't care.

No wonder Cleo was resentful. Each of her parents has that indefinable Hollywood "X Factor," that enigmatic entity that bestows big stars their vast public appeal and staying power. Life is tough in this way for the offspring of glamorous movie stars, as these progeny rarely are blessed with that thing that made each of their parents so loved by the camera.
The daughter looks like a fashion model in her own right. Katharine has a different look entirely. They both are blessed in the looks department. Cleo still has her life ahead of her and may achieve in her own way.
In the pictures the daughter is on the outside lookn in. Very telling... When children are violent towards their parent I always wonder what did the parent do behind closed doors. I know what mine did. Abusive parents are always actors in public wether famous or not...
I noticed the same. Pics are often a representation of real life dynamics - it’s mom and dad as a couple, first. Kid is an outsider (interloper?). No attempt by mom to bring her daughter into the photos with Sam. But the one at 17:05, they’re side-by-side, but note no Sam.
My son, who was an affectionate, well-behaved child, became secretive and vindictive in his early teens. After having worked with mentally ill persons in my career, I now know he has Borderline Personality Disorder Syndrome, which results in volatile behavior. The individual suffering from this disorder is unable to regulate their emotions. PD sufferers disrupt their relationships in work and privately. I wonder if Katherine's daughter has this disorder. Unless they receive therapy and support, these people continue to be unpredictable and unmanageable. I now know that saying NO to my son is met with resistance and hostility. Thank God, we live in different towns and he is on his own. He is intelligent and has a good sense of humor when he is on the up side of his disorder. I find it sad that our relationship was so affected by his mental health that normal relations have not been truly possible.
Sam Elliott probably coddled her and gave her unconditional love, creating the situation where Chloe may have felt in competition with her mother. Parents need to be united, if not, one parent becomes the bad parent and the other the good parent. Chloe may have felt jealous of their relationship and wanted to be that person in the relationship. Just a guess, but have seen in my own daughter and husband.

Simular story where Frankie Valley (four seasons) had to get a restraining order on his son because his son made a threatening statement he was going to kill Frankie. His son apparently has been struggling with addiction. Or the case of the menendez brothers slaughtering their parents.
Its Never, Ever OK to physically abuse the elderly, not only that, but the person whose responsible for her being here. It starts with the verbal abuse, usually associated with alcohol or drug related tirades, then escalates. Both parents, (Elliott) are well known actors, who, in their heydays, were quite active and in high demand, as their careers played out. @@JRGirl22 Thank you. My mom wasn't narcissistic. My step-father was. My older sister is VERY narcissistic. AND she controlling. I have that kind heart. I forgive because I can't be mean. My husband is also a controlling narcissist. But after nearly 18 years, I know how to stick up for myself. I miss my grand kids and I have never met my great grand son, who will be 5 this year. It's hard when you have to put up those boundaries when you have always been the nice guy and let things happen. I miss my grand kids, but I don't miss the drama. I'm sorry that you had to experience this, too. May God bless you. 🙃
Thank you for sharing your personal experience. It sounds like you had to make a tough decision for your own well-being.
@@NOSPOOF Thank you. Yes, I did.
Being a narc is 1 step below a sociapath. Narcissism is an actual mental illness.
Cleo is 39 today. This is a very old incident.
I think they said 2010
I had fights with my parents that if anyone overheard them they would be shocked.
So sad. As parents, we do the best we can but often it is a thankless job. My heart goes out to her.
My mate absolutely loved Katherine if she was in a film he watched it, hearing this would be hurtful to him, life isn’t easy when you have complex emotions,
Love her talent & beauty. I always get her & Ali McGraw mixed up. Both so beautiful & talented.
I haven't heard of this woman, but I immediately thought about Ali McGraw when I saw her.
@@Kari.F. ,please watch the Graduate with Dustin Hoffman, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Paul Newman and Robert Redford, both fabulous movies. Katherine is stunning in both.
McGraw wasn't as good an actor a Ross.
I have always thought she and Ali McGraw looked alike. I wish them well.
No she looks more like Linda gray not ally mcgraw.
I loved The Stepford Wives. The remake was terrible, nothing like the original. Katherine Ross was superb in her role.

My son is now age 41, happily married with 2 healthy children. I can count on the fingers of 1 hand the amount of times I have felt hurt or disrespected by him. I never take any of that for granted.
Hello. Why do our adult kids these days, threat us parents so badly & disrespectfully. My husband & I raised two great kids. I was a stay-at-home mom. My kids & I were very close. Until, they went off to college. I don't know my kids anymore. They changed so much. The pain they have caused me was unbearable. They never said they were sorry. They never would talk to me. I even ask them if we can go for counseling. They wouldn't. My daughter told me, if I continue to want to talk about it, she would not speak to me anymore. My son's wife treated me so horribly.
I love Ms Ross I am saddened that this happened to a wonderful actress.
That happened back in 2011, for pete sake. Cleo has apparently straightened up these days. No news here.
Thank you!!!

Years ago her daughter pulled a gun on her
I bet she's bi polar. My daughter is. 💔. Threw things at me, gave me a black eye. Before I went to work, all in her teens, still verbally abuses me.
This happened almost 15 years ago and Cleo is now close to 40! And you bring it up now!!! WTF?!!
I just stayed in hotel called The Graduate. I should have asked if they had a Mrs. Robinson suite. 😉
SINCE THIS IS ABOUT A LONG AGO SITUATION, IS THE DAUGHTER HAVING A MORE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP WITH HER MOM NOW?
Prayers for entire family
I love Katharine Ross. She gave excellent performances in The Graduate, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, and The Stepford Wives (original).
The narration is so repetitive, the same information could have been shared in half the time.
100 yards is a joke when violence is involved... a genuine joke.

Daughter entitlement!

Significant Mental illness (daughter). Have compassion. No more control of that than if the daughter had cancer.

That was YEARS ago but dang!
The photograph you show at 4 min. and 37 seconds is Susan St. James, not Katherine Ross.
Apart from inheriting her father’s height, there is such a resemblance between Ross and her daughter. I don’t know why but in my mind that somehow makes the stabbing worse, maybe as if the daughter was attacking herself…
I think her daughter looks like her father.
She was great in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, "Games," and "The Stepford Wives."
she was not in Guess who's coming to dinner. That was katherine Hough, the niece of Katherine Hepburn.
some of her TV episodes were good as in Gunsmoke with her traveling Mom.

Thanks for a great video. Hollywood's Golden Age was from 1930-1960. In recent years people mistake the 60's and 70's as the Golden Age. It's was the beginning of Hollywood's modern age of cinema.
It was goldenish in the 1960s.
Never heard about this which is unusual since anything with actresses and actors always make news in Socal!!!
She also played in "Shenandoah" and "Conagher". My daughter tried to attack me one time with a fork. We had problems for years and years. She is now 45, and we have a great relationship.
Cleo's hair says a lot.
No it doesn't. She has a different hair color is all. Means nothing.

@@jackack1429 Substance abuse can go hand in hand with BPD. They self medicate in the depressive phases, and they think they are invincible when manic.
Abuse of a substance called pink hair dye. It must have affected her brain.
Sad story!!

True 👍 sometimes it's hard too live with famous parents Also as a only child ..!

Sorry you went through that , but not all parents are abusive...
@@gabriellesullivan4772 I didn’t say all were... I said they hide it. And that children are provoked when violent.
I also noticed that seems like her mother would of wrapped her arms around the only child she had to take pics A family pic for all to remember
You need an editor…in all of your videos you say the same thing over and over again and go back over the same clips you just covered 2 minutes prior!
Possible the girl felt left out when they were n the public eye n needed an arm around her at least by one of them They were both standing n their glory but don't seem to b sharing it with their only daughter The child having both parents away all the time while making movies she probably had someone else taking care of her n maybe they weren't so nice hidden pain n children usually comes out as they get older even tho I've always been a Kate Ross n Sam Elliott fan u never really know ppl tho The LORD says u'll know someone by their fruits(children)but if that isn't the case then GOD b with them n heal their hurts n deliver the daughter
Sometimes you think you are listening to your adult children, but you're not. Mental health issues may be at play. Sometimrs it is difficult to be an only child.

Its Never, Ever OK to physically abuse the elderly, not only that, but the person whose responsible for her being here. It starts with the verbal abuse, usually associated with alcohol or drug related tirades, then escalates.
