Because the underlining problems sometimes, is no Daddy - for what ever reason, it’s ok for the woman to do her own thing, but ,think when you were a child - most little girls wanted their daddy, while boys wanted their mummy.

Where was Sam Elliott in all of this? He is the biological father, does he not have a say how his daughter treats her mother? No matter how inferior she may have felt by her mother's success, at 26 you don't try and kill your mother! She seems mentally ill, this is not normal behavior. Before I listened to this, I thought maybe she was 14 or 15, kids at that age can go off the rails because they are children in an adult world but 26? That is just mental illness. If she did this with anyone else, she would be in jail or put away as a danger to society. How devastating.

The legal action was necessary though, while not guaranteeing full protection, it offered Katherine a breathing space and has forced her daughter to take stock of her own emotional situation. I cannot imagine that her daughter would not have sort advice or professional medical help.

I can tell you from experience, that, I sympathize with Katherine about the inner struggle to get a restraining order against your own child. I had to get one against my own daughter. She became an alcoholic later in her life and had no place to live, so she thought she could come to my new house, take it over and act like it was hers, and order me around, all while she was drunk. I had to call the police to remove her and had to get a restraining order. It is a very hard decision to make. You bring this person into the world, and just because they don't get their way, they think they can attack us and make false allegations against us when we did nothing we are accused of. My daughter didn't have mental problems. She is just a controlling narcissist and wanted to live with me again RENT FREE. I put my foot down, and she didn't like it. Now we no longer speak. HER loss, not mine. I am free of her drama and I feel so much better. Sometimes you have to make difficult decisions to save your peace and sanity. And NO. My daughter was not a "spoiled brat". She just thinks she's above the rest of the world and we should cater to every need. For Cleo, I don't believe she is that "spoiled Hollywood brat". She just has her own mental issues for not getting her way.

In the last decade of my parents life I was the child that took care of my parents, saw them every day and at times stayed with them giving up many aspects of my own life. I don't regret it. My parents were good parents but they could drive me crazy. Sometimes it is difficult to view family dynamics from the outside.
Not excusing any violence, but then again I have not a drop of violent temperament ever which is unusual for a male. Just saying that the Ross and Elliot family may have challenges that are difficult to comprehend in that we actually do not know them and also, this incident was a long time ago And I would not trust a media account to be entirely accurate and watch out for narratives even if the facts are recorded correctly.

@@Dee-wd8li I'm sorry to hear your story...truly. My son went to Junior College and started at a nearby University. He had been working part-time since age 16; and he made the decision to leave school and work full-time. He went through some rocky years, spending too much time with a woman he thought he could save from a bad environment. At age 35, he met the young woman he would marry; he has been at the top of management with the same firm he began his employment all those years ago. His father and I are grateful. Wish you well; never give up. 💗

I fought with my parent all the time. In their old age I was the child that was there for them and visited or stayed with them nearly every day. Shockingly, I was the one they picked to handle their money; the one they always thought could not handle my own money.
Overall, by the way, the child that sees both good and bad in his parents and speaks up to them is generally in the end a healthier adult. Not saying this is true for you. Although what I said is true, personality types must be considered. Certain children do not have the nature to speak up to anyone unless they are gravely upset whereas others need to express their emotions all the time. So assuming you did a good job, your children may have been the type to be agreeable and you gave them no cause to express anger. I can tell you if you were my parents, I would have found something. I was a loving son but didn't hesitate to advocate for my own interests. This came in handy as my parents began navigating old age and needed my personality type to be a guard dog and fight off those that would attempt to take advantage of them and had to ensure they received proper medical care at all times. They were very happy with my skill in those last years.

Yes.. this makes me suspect mental health issues and I'm sure MS Ross is well aware of this. . It is sad that people are quick to fault someone when they don't really know the whole story and it is easy to jump to conclusions. Mental Health issues are often not easy to recognize as it can seem like personality differences . Diagnosing MH often takes some time before these " personality quirks " are realized as MH issues. ...people are often not diagnosed until they are young adults.. but the problems have been going on for years. I'm sure she loves her daughter and has suffered greatly by her inability to help and understand her. ... but these problems are not an easy fix. I wish the family well and hope all find peace.

My son, who was an affectionate, well-behaved child, became secretive and vindictive in his early teens. After having worked with mentally ill persons in my career, I now know he has Borderline Personality Disorder Syndrome, which results in volatile behavior. The individual suffering from this disorder is unable to regulate their emotions. PD sufferers disrupt their relationships in work and privately. I wonder if Katherine's daughter has this disorder. Unless they receive therapy and support, these people continue to be unpredictable and unmanageable. I now know that saying NO to my son is met with resistance and hostility. Thank God, we live in different towns and he is on his own. He is intelligent and has a good sense of humor when he is on the up side of his disorder. Until seeing this video, I hadn’t realized how tiny(not tall) she is. I thought she was even a little tall.

The incident in 2010 would mean she was 70 at the time it occurred...

If she was born in 1940 she would be 84 this yr, 2024. I was born in 1954 & I will be 70 this month.

I have a difficult time when men speak on behalf (speculate) how women think and feel. 99% of the time they are wrong. Keep your nose out of other people's business ESPECIALLY when it relates to their children.

Simular story where Frankie Valley (four seasons) had to get a restraining order on his son because his son made a threatening statement he was going to kill Frankie. His son apparently has been struggling with addiction. Or the case of the menendez brothers slaughtering their parents.

Its Never, Ever OK to physically abuse the elderly, not only that, but the person whose responsible for her being here. It starts with the verbal abuse, usually associated with alcohol or drug related tirades, then escalates. Both parents, (Elliott) are well known actors, who, in their heydays, were quite active and in high demand, as their careers played out. Surely a wealthy lifestyle and environment was provided, but apparently not appreciated. Love your parents while they are still here, because one day they won't be.
