I knew of a homeless old lady who was in jail because she couldn't pay court fees, things that led to her losing her house. You might think 100% of the people in jail are bad, some are simply poor. Some are simply of groups hated by the court.

JOE, man, you should consider drawing some more of your stories more often, even if it's just a single panel like at the end this video! For real, this style of illustrating you did is straight-up professional looking. If I saw this drawing in a news paper or a web comic or something, I wouldn't think twice about where it came from. This is legitimately talented work, man, I mean it.

This happened over two years ago. Im a different person now. Ive got over a year clean time now and im very proud of that. No doubt quitting drugs has helped me turn my life around and now i love my life and i live for good. Im a positive person, at least i try to be.

When i was in jail we had time out. In that cell all it had in it was a little step to sit on and a drain in the middle. I got lucky. I went in there for fighting. But they reviewed the cameras and seen i was defending myself. And once the guy quit (i knocked him out) it showed that i backed off and stood against the wall with my hands behind my back waiting for the CO. I was in there for 4 hours. It took them 4 hours to look at the footage to prove i wasnt at fault. And they kept that cell like 30 degrees if not colder.

While in nursing school my class got the opportunity to spend a day at a DOC Treatment facility. We were paired up with a “family member” a prisoner. We went to groups with our partner and participated. Not only were the groups intense and they would call each other out for things and such, but near the end of the day we were all (all staff, inmates and nursing students) to the gym as one of the inmates was on his last chance before being sent back to prison. It was crazy how they mentally, verbally and emotionally just beat this guy down. This sounds a lot like the T PAP. BTW, I thank you for your channel. My fiancé is currently incarcerated and I have learned so much from your channel.

TC 506 dart cherry Goldsboro, NC. That place was fucking nuts. It was a TC run by the NC DOC but it didn’t have fences. So while you were there you were considered a prisoner and issued an OPUS number but the fucking place had no fence. It’s was one of the most bullshit facilities I have ever been to. Everyone there was sent for too many probation violations or people on their last 90 days of a sentence. It blew my mind they sent people who still had 90 days of time left somewhere without fences but If you’re stupid enough to run with only 90 days left then you can’t be helped. It was exactly like joe described Indian creek with inmates called “expeditors” that were basically inmate police officer. The punishments would be to polish doorknobs with a shoe string or scrub stairs with a toothbrush. The place was a damn joke. Ahhh good times haha.

That last punishment sounds like a therapeutic practice they used in Synanon a drug rehabilitation program called "The Game".The game was a session during which one member would talk about themselves and then endure violent criticism by their peers. During this practice, members were encouraged to be critical of everything, belittling, and using vulgar language.

You're a very good cartoonist Joe. I always had a thing for drawing cartoons as a kid. Where did you learn to draw so well? I mean you could make money with that skill. Would also help pass the time away. I was thinking of taking up some kind of art once I go down

@12:20 that’s EXACTLY how it goes down. On compound I was at they called it the “hot seat” or “encounters group”. It was basically like watching Jerry Springer live. I never did see anything positive come out of those hotseat/belittling scenes. It was a freakshow.

Joe, if you haven't already done so, watch The Last Castle on Netflix. It's a great movie about a military prison. I bet you'll love it.

Dude, with juveniles we do BTOs. (Behavioral Time Out). You need to follow this up with something about juveniles. You have the power to influence generations...

(TC) Theraputic community is also used in the prison system over here in England too.

TC actually is a pretty good thing. I wish all prisoners could go through it. It changed me so much for the better. Grads of TC have an insanely lower recidivism rate. I think TC is why I didn't go back. It made me a much better and more aware person. It was also one of the hardest things I've ever done. It's brutal to honestly look at your faults and look at why you behave the way you do.

It sounds like Indian Creek’s programs actually work to reduce recidivism, or at least help the residents improve psychologically.

  • @Robb403

I read that a Sheriff in Arizona found a way to torture people in time out. He painted the room and everything in it the same shade of pink and the inmate even had to where a pink jumpsuit so that there so nothing in the room had contrast or depth. It was a windowless brightly lit room. There weren't even any shadows. It drove people crazy after just a few hours in it. It's not so much the pink as it is the utter lack of contrast and depth that messes with your brain. I don't know if they still use that room. But, it was incredibly cruel.

I think Joe should write a book. Or have someone write it for him. He's got some interesting stories that would work well in writing. Let's face it, this social media won't last forever but writing a book the old fashion way certainly will.
