    If you put in more than 2, it’s highly likely they’ll kill off each other until there are just two left, unless you start with a harem from the same clutch.

    • @StudioGhibletz
      @StudioGhibletz 3 года назад

      When you start a harem, do they have to be from the same clutch? I've never tried, but I didn't know they had to be from the same clutch

    • @lolitacooksley7909

      @@StudioGhibletz no they only need to go in at once. Adding after that is difficult.

      Well I started off with 5 from the same batch and added 4 at the time but I had to make sure they were all smaller than the ones I had to ensure there was no female.

    I was a little shocked, I added a pair of ocellaris one snowflake one regular (these had lived in someone else's tank for over 1 year... the snowflake was small... I added them to my 150g with 6 brother ocellaris clowns for a total of 8, the little snowflake bullied each of the 6 that were already in the tank. He lives alone now in a nano, seems perfectly happy bumping into walls and burrowing into the sand :-)

    I don’t agree that just because there is a bunch of clownfish in a tank at the lfs you are safe to pick as many as you want and they will get on in your tank. Those fish are under stress and flooded in tanks they cannot form territories and are usually juveniles. Buying 2 will likely result in a pair in your own tank which will be fine but they will defend their spot. Buying 3 will result in a pair and dead one! Once two mature they are unlikely to tolerate others. Also the video title may lead people to believe that it’s possible to have clownfish and add other compatible species to the existing clownfish. This is not usually possible unless one of a pair has died or you have an extremely large tank scaped in a way that they are kept at least 3ft apart and even that is risky.

      Plenty of people have had success doing a clown tank with multiple clownfish. Usually they’re out of the same clutch but it can be done. Just have to be prepared to weed out the more aggressive ones, makes sure there’s plenty of food, and plenty of places to hide. Just like keeping multiple Tangs in a tank it can be done with some simple tricks and refereeing

    Ocellaris fish generally nice fish, but it seems like 1/4th of them are aggressive, at least with my luck.

    Great video. I have a oscellaris thats a juvenile and a baby percula designer I guess you would say. Its white with orange markings. They dont seem to be pairing. The bigger one keeps trying but not quite as diligently as when I first got them about a month ago. I feel so bad for the female! I am ordering fish now and thought of adding a third baby oscellaris very cheap too at 8 bucks lol . Could that cause a huge problem or should I just wait and see? I have read it can take up to 3 months but in the past I have only bought osselaris and it happened very fast! If they dont pair should I remove the percula? I could put in frag tank! I hate to remove that one since its beautiful though! haha It would be difficult to find another one just like it and try again with that clown! I have read that its not healthy for clownfish to be in the same tank unpaired and they could also end up fighting to the death! Not to mention it breaks my heart to watch them unpaired when the big one wants to so bad!

    I stuck to only friendly clownfish. I have a 125 gallon, put 2 ocellaris clowns and 2 ocellaris snowflake clowns, 2 weeks later and the snowflakes are trying to kill my other ones. I don't understand why this is happening, I know they're territorial but I thought 125 gallons would have been more than enough 🤷‍♀️

    • @lolitacooksley7909
      @lolitacooksley7909 3 года назад +2

      It’s as much about luck as well as size of tank and the way the tank is scaped, individual clown characters and feeding etc.
      I had two ocellaris in my 100 gallon that never hosted anything apart from a cave on the far left of the tank. After waiting years for them to host my bubbletips I gave up. I had a 30 gallon sitting around so confident that I could move them if needed I got a tomato clown that was smaller . The thinking being that the tomato is more aggressive but the existing ocellaris is already established and that the tomato will stick to the anemones. The first few hours the existing female was aggressive but kept lights down until tomato settled in to the anemones and it worked. The tomato has 6 BTA and loves them all but doesn’t stray from that area the pair of ocellaris stay in the caves. There’s a large leather and some rock work I placed to break line of sight and they completely ignore each other . It was part luck, part planning

      @@lolitacooksley7909 thanks for the insight. I ended up surrending two of the clowns to my LFS, kept only 2 in my 125g. They're doing better. I've since added a beautiful purple tang, cleaner shrimp, six line wrasse and a yellow watchman goby!
