The first time I heard this Jill was at my poetry event reading this at a Woman Month Celebration. This move the crowd so much I mean moved the crowd with truth and spiritually in this poem. Genius...
"You broke me but I'm healing." MY GOD! Mama had me crying from 4:20 through. Jesus thank you lord for this vessel. It's a process but I'm healing. Mending not concealing.
She looks like my friend and coworker Yananta Baker. She sounds like her too. I LOVE MISS JILL SCOTT. I love your music girl. Don't ever quit. peace b/
Dudes get tricked too. It's funny..the song is obviously a woman talking about her betrayal and healing but it's really for "people". Men don't get to talk about our hurt because it would be perceived as soft by other men and women. We have "eat" our pain in silence. Most men have been hurt..we sit in a room alone..shed a tear...punch a wall..but we eat it. So just to let ya'll ladies know..we play the fool many times as well. Peace.
Jill Scott at her best , a lovely talented black woman totally within her self natural hair just so beautiful. I no things move on and times change ... BUT.. I'm a white. Man married to my gorgeous black wife for 30 years we have 3 gorgeous girls and 2 grand children, and this is the point, black women do not need weave and false hair to look beautiful, lady's look within your selves, you are so more beautiful when you are naturally, you are black and be proud. And the point: Jill Scott fell for the manipulation of the record companies and went Hollywood, shame, but I still love her early stuff, a rant but it needs to be said, thank you.
I'm just going to say this. If Jill Scott ever decided to stop singing and just rap ... she'd be one of the best MCs out there. No doubt.
At last. Bout time some posted a live version of this song. Possibly the best song she's ever written!
Thanks
Jilly from Philly! My girl! Peep Ms. Vivian Green on the background vocals.

The last thing Black women need is a White man lecturing them on how to take care of their hair. Know your position, sir.
He broke me but I'm healing!
