John actually totally stripped his board down on this cd. I was surprised. Search the video where they appear on Howard Stern. He has like 3 basic model BOSS pedals and another that looks like a processor/multiFX. But he does play a lot of the music with FX still.

For me you can achieve this sound using a chorus with high rate and mix. Probably John used his Boss CE-1.
