Anyone in Bermuda how do I find family history? It is so hard to trace a lot. My kids' great-grandma, her parents & grandparents were all born in Bermuda. Ironically one of my kids loves the drums & dancing so I'm really curious if any of his relatives there are/were Gombey dancers. :)
Hey, I'm Bermudian-American from Texas. My mother was adopted and found her biological family in Bermuda. I would recommend Ancestry for getting in contact with relatives. Would you happen to know the names of your children's great grandmother & great-great grandparents? I could probably do a quick search for you. I have a lot of names in my family tree, so there's a chance I might be related. :D
@@shelbourneking4135 It's not really a festival....gombeys are traditional dancers. there are multiple troops(groups of dancers). Gombey Evolution, H and H, Gombey Warriors, Warwick Gombeys to name a few. Culturally, it combines aspects of African, Caribbean and Native American culture. The Bermuda gombeys derive from the St. Kitts Masquerade dancers...but we do it soo much better in my opinion lol.
@@sharikahmuhammad1475 Actually that me the ORIGINS of how it got to the western world but it was brought to Bermuda by someone from St. Kitts. If you look at the St. Kitts masquerade dancers, they're basically the same as gombeys from the way they dress down to the beat, the indian themes, the whistles, etc. Albeit, I think gombeys do it better.
Hi Jasmine, Bermuda Gombeys originate from a blend of West African, and Native American. There are other variations of masqurade dancers from other Caribbean islands that share the West African origin, but each variation have their own uniqueness.
I was usually in the Warwick Gombey Group
Would you inform me if your Group have performance again, please .
