Internet of Things or IoT has gained a lot of attention in media, consumer and academic world recently. IoT is a broad concept that can be applied to many real sectors, from smart home, smart farm, smart factory and smart city. This talk will discuss technological components behind IoT and what to consider before designing an IoT system or application. I will give a case study of how factories can benefit from IoT to improve production efficiency, reduce labor cost, and becoming smart factories within restricted budget.

Panita received her B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. She has worked as a researcher at NECTEC since 2014 in the areas of Internet and network technologies, such as, IPv6, network security, network management, and network measurement. She is now leading a research group that developed "NETPIE" a platform-as-a-service to facilitate quick Internet of Things development. This NETPIE platform service was voted “the most promising innovation project to invest” from potential investors in 2016.
