- WUSF 89.7FM 'All Night Jazz' host Simon Lasky interviews guitarist, composer, band leader and pioneer, John McLaughlin, for his 'At Home With' series. One of the world's greatest guitarists, McLaughlin was at the forefront of the jazz rock fusion movement of the late '60's and early '70's and has remained hugely influential in both genres ever since. An inspiring conversation, McLaughlin tells anecdotes of his time with Miles Davis, reflects on his astonishing career, and discusses his new album 'Liberation Time'.
79 years old and still playing the most blazing jazz fusion guitar you’ll ever hear!
Absolute legend! The new album
Is incredible. Infinite inspiration from John.
Thanks for the interview.
Great that JM still retains his love and enthusiasm for the music. An amazing life and more still to come. Really looking forward to hearing the new record.
Can’t let the moment pass without a mention of the sad loss of Rick Laird. RIP
So pleased you enjoyed it Trudy. And, yes, thanks for flagging up Rick Laird (we recorded the interview a few days before he passed).
And apologies Simon, many thanks to you for making such an excellent interview possible.
Always a joy to hear John speak. Thank you for this.
Happiest guitarist on globe!
Nice interview Simon! Johns clearly relaxed and happy to talk with you!
You did this interview right on my birthday!!! This is a gift!!
Thanks for including the spiritual questions Simon thats been as important for me as a McLaughlin fan for 35 years as his music!! :-)
I so pleased you got a lot out of this interview Ivon. Thanks for writing
É maravilhoso poder ver McLaughlin tão bem e sorridente, dando entrevistas e tocando, durante este período tão difícil que estamos passando. Uma lenda que devemos todas as homenagens. Vida longa a John.
I've found you!!! Great interviews! Yeah jazz! Jeannie WUSF Member
Thanks so much Jeanne
When I was a kid taking acid my favorites were Hendrix and McLaughlin, both just were far and above anything else. I always used to say what John is saying, only for me it was, "John and Jimi are both doing the same exact thing." As far as sound and innovation and the places their music took me, they are, they just approach it differently, just like any other master. Thank you to John McLaughlin. This is a great interview so far, thank you for asking such good questions.
Thank you Robert. I'm so pleased this interview resonated with you
Thank you for this great interview with a great man and musician.
So pleased you enjoyed it
An Inventor!!
Great time spent. Like listening to Mt. Everest !!
