Where did you get the info that the 12v battery could be killed by charging at only 6A? Doesn’t seem to fit with other sources of info eg direct from Porsche.
Hi Michael! There is a Technical Bulletin (TI) "2706 Discharged 12-Volt Battery After Charging the High-Voltage Battery" from Porsche that states when charging on a 120V at 6amps there could communication errors between the high voltage charger and Taycan which results in increased power consumption of the 12V battery which in turn can kill the 12v battery. The document recommends to keep the power output to no less than 8 amps when charging on a 120v in a pinch. There will be a software update sometime early this year to fix the error but it is not out yet. Hope this helps 👍🏼

Great video. But what is the advantage to use this device? Isn’t all the charging setting already in the car? Or better yet, the Porsche Connect app should be able to adjust charging max current and time to charge like Tesla. Or we cannot adjust any of these without the Mobile charger connect?
Absolutely insane that it needs a code to enter and if you get locked out you have to call or call your dealer.

when you show the set up of the Tycoon charger, should the device connect to the car as well?
Nice video. Do you know whether can I use Tesla Gen2 charger for Taycan? Where can I buy the longer cable (7m) from the mobile charger connect to the car?
Thank you Benny! With the proper adapter I have seen a Tesla Charger charge a Taycan! The only place I am aware you can purchase the longer cable for the Mobile Charger Connect is your local Porsche Dealer! 👍🏼
Mason, thanks very much for the excellent video. If you have a ChargePoint Flex available which will charge at 11 kWhr (vs. 9.6 kWhr), will the Taycan onboard charging system automatically adjust? Or does the vehicle have settings like the Mobil Charger Connect (MCC) which need to be made manually in the vehicle? I have been told that the Mobil Charger Connect has added features which will "future proof" Taycan charging. I am not clear what the advantage of the MCC is over third party units like the ChargePoint Flex other than you can link to the Porsche app.
Jack! Thank you for the support and kind words 😊 That is a great question! Was not familiar with the Chargepoint Flex until you mentioned it... looks like quite a nice unit! The Taycan will automatically adjust adjust charging rate based on the infrastructure it is plugged into but in this case I believe it would limited as standard the Taycan comes with an on-board AC charger at 9.6 kWhr limiting the rate of charge! Unless the car is equipped with the optional 19.2 kWhr on-board AC charger! With this option the on-board unit is able to convert the incoming AC energy to DC energy to be stored in the battery at a faster rate! If the car does have this option it will be available through Porsche Tequipment! If equipped with this particular on-board charger the Taycan would be able to take full advantage of the ChargePoint Flex and would automatically adjust the charge rate to 11 kWhr as now the limiting factor is the charger not the car 👍🏼 Yes the MCC will help "future proof" a bit more as it can be hardwired into your houses electrical panel bringing charging times of up to 19.2 kWhr if equipped with the on-board charger as above! It will also be able to work seamlessly with the "Home Energy Manager" that control's the rate of charge based upon current household energy output and automatically adjust it! See Porsche Taycan Configurator go to the bottom and under the "Tequipment Accessories">"E-performance". Hope this helps Jack! Thanks for the support!

Can you use a 110 or does it have to be a 220 volt
You can use a 110 it will just take a very long time and is not recommend as from 0% to 100% it is rated at taking approx.. 96 hours to complete the charge.
Why does it let you charge at 6A if it will damage your battery? Why is the default no 8A? I received my Taycan with the standard charger which I think was free or included with it. I would have liked to have upgraded to this connect one with the screen, should I have been offered the chance to do this and what is the price difference?
Hi, I just gave my Porsche Panamera E-hybrid back to the dealership but forgot to bring the charging unit. So I was able to take the charging unit out but can't seem to take the holder of the plug out. Do you know how I can take that out? thanks.

Why would taking it down to 6 amps to protect your electrical supply and plug drain the 12v battery? that doesn't actually make sense, please explain thx as in UK we turn down the amps to ensure it doesn't overload our 240v socket and overheat
Hi James! At 120v 6amps there is the possibility of discharging the 12v battery due to a communication error between the charger and the vehicle causing discharge to the 12v starter battery. There is a Technical bulletin here in the US about it and there will be software update sometime this year to fix the issue! It is possible the issue isn't happening to cars in the UK. What amperage are you keeping it at on a 240v socket?
@@Pcarwhisperer Hi I actually keep mine at 10amps when needed but rarely use the mobile charger on a 3 pin domestic socket in UK at 240v, but there is a general recommendation to turn amps down to prevent overheating especially when using an extension cable, so 6 amps if charging for a long time. We have had a few 12v issues but not relating to the mobile connect charger, it happens on all chargers and Porsche do not have an answer as some are plugged in and some aren't when 12v fails

Do you think I could install this outside? It won’t be submerged in water, but rain could def touch it. Do you think this would be okay like the Tesla charging?
Yes can Definatley install outside! I think it will be okay as long as its not a ton of rain! Will the charger be installed on the wall?!

@@Pcarwhisperer I ordered a Turbo. Checked off many boxes. I keep going back and forth about "did I make a mistake?" I love 911's. I have had 2. I presently have a GTS and love it. The Taycan will replace it. I like taking chances so I will see what the Taycan will do. Another you tuber guy (Nick Murray) has me scared about the b pilar. He said it is very difficult getting in and out. The other negative comments didn't scare me. The b pilar did. Looking forward to your information. Mine won't be delivered until June/July.

I'm considering a fixed wall charger and keep this one mobile ( in the car in case of an emergency charge ). Also, have you considered doing a video about multiple charger options for the Taycan?

Great question Ronnie! It is a $1120 option on all models! The car comes with a charger called the Mobile Charger Plus as standard! Main difference is the kilowatt output is less at 9.6kW to 19.2 on the Mobile Charger Connect and no screen on the charger.

So confusing.. gonna stick with my amg until someone can teach me how to charge..
Once this charger is set up for home use this is the only time you need to configure. After initial set up just need to plug in the Taycan and it will start charging! 👍🏼

Thanks for watching Jeff! Yes a charger does come standard with the car but is not this particular charger it is less powerful charger without a screen called the Mobile Charger Plus!
How many amps should a 240v be set it?
I would turn it down to 30 amps or so
