This vault lid was placed near an open grave (with the bottom of the vault already installed in the ground) so that the family of the deceased may "inspect" the customized lid of their "Wilbert Monticello" prior to burial. The funeral director will direct the family to the lid, so they may proof the spelling and dates, and inspect the gasketed seal. The open grave was covered with boards to prevent curious people like you from falling in. Prior to the funeral procession's arrival, the boards will be replaced with a casket lowering device and most likely, some turf carpeting or cloth. This is a good cemetery simply because they removed the loose soil (dirt pile) from the graveside for aesthetics, for the burial ceremony. This is standard protocol. The same with the other grave's trans-seasonal sinking a bit. Until the cold soil finishes settling, it will continue to sink and will be filled when it's warmer outside. Or, perhaps with extra soil from the next interment. Often, fresh graves are mounded to compensate for settling. Some cemeteries use powered, weighted ground-tampers to speed the soil's compression. Nothing you mentioned or showed in the video was unusual. Actually, I would expect to see everything you showed.

When we dig a full grave, we do it the day before, if weather permits we will take the lid off so you don't have to keep bringing in the backhoe and destroying the lawn, when we are done we put bords on the grave so no one falls in the hole, p.s. it's not a casket it's a vault the casket goes in side the vault, I have done this for 31 years

That's not a casket. That's the top of a vault. The boards were covering an open grave that was prepared for a burial. The casket was placed in the vault and the top you saw sealed the vault and the grave was filled with dirt. Where the saw the sunken grave was just the settling of the grave. More dirt was more than likely added. No neglect at all.

      Ty for info...........
I was very curious about it. The next day they had a tent over boards and then it was all gone so i appreciate the information. I love learning about the afterlife😇

You said exactly what I was going to say. That's how they always do it. The vault top is laid somewhere near the open grave, the vault itself is likely inside the grave already. You'll notice the date on the vault top is 2021 too. They will lay out that green carpet over where the open boards are and the casket will be laid on top of that mechanism that lowers it into the ground (I've forgotten what that mechanism is called). Also, I'm sure they added more dirt to that sunken grave when they buried the person with the vault. They just didnt add enough initially, and it probably rained and compacted the dirt more. Whoever did that grave was probably new to the process. It's creepy to happen upon all of this though. You saw someone's vault that will be forever buried from then on.

That's it exactly. Vault cover. And usually they overfill when they backfill a grave, but sometimes it settles and they have to go back later with more dirt and refill it. I used to do maintenance at a local cemetery and got to see a lot of behind the scenes work.

Cold weather? Soil expansion from freezing and thawing! We have to constantly have to fill newer burials with dirt! That's normal the Soil will eventually settle. 👍

If the grave is caving in that mean the casket wasn't put in a vault the casket lid collapsed or worse case scenario the dump the body in the hole and take the casket back and sell it again

Graves sink and settle. My dad had to buy bags of top soil and added it to the top of my mom’s garage until lit stopped. It’s normal.

It's the lid to the vault, the bottom half of the vault is already in the grave that is dug out & then after they lower the casket into the bottom part of the vault they will place that lid on top of the vault & then fill it in with dirt 🤦

  • @mikefitz3470

First one with boards is freshly dug grave, The lid is not a casket, its the lid of a vault. Generally a freshly dug grave is used with in a day or 2 at most. You just happened on it before ceremony. The sunken grave is normal, weight of dirt collapses casket depending on quality of casket, it gets backfilled from other graves. I worked in cemetery 5 years and vault is delivered before funeral. Everything in this video is normal operation,

for the grave that has dirt that is sinking, the dirt froze from the night before and sank, they will put more dirt on and level it out, then when the weather worms up they will tamp it with a gas powered tamper and put the sod on it and it's done,

That is a top of a vault, not a top of a casket. It must be a double vault for a married couple.
