I think it would ruin the very idea of Ableton Push then. Just think about it as if you were playing guitar. Have you ever played guitar? Thanks Jamie. The videos your putting out are really great quality and inspiring. Quick question. Can you share what your pad settings are in the the Push setup and what are your settings on the velocity plugin your using?
Thanks Jeremy! The pad sensitive settings are default (can’t remember the numbers of the top of my head). The velocity device has the max set to 100 instead of 127.
Thank you for this :) with guitar I forced myself to learn the shapes from first principles. It helped remember them but man it took me ages. Seeing you build them is a great shortcut. If you memorize the interval shapes (octave/thirds/fifths/sevenths/etc) then you can apply those building block shapes to explore and improvise. Most important interval shape is the octave. That will help for using inversions while improvising.
This is very cool! but wouldn't it be easier to learn the shapes in scale only mode? Also, is that an animation or app that brings up the keys on the Push? :)
The shapes are slightly different in scale mode. Although they’re easier, you end up confined to that scale. Learning in chromatic mode allows you to use notes that are out of key and play the push like a guitar or piano. The keys on the push screen is a video overlay of a max for live device 😊 Thanks for watching!
Jamie Blake, what you're saying is true, but I still think it's cool to learn as most modern producers will stick a scale. Thanks for the max for live info!
Staying in scale mode limits you to chords and notes in that scale, you won’t be able to substitute or borrow chords from other key or modes, which are very common ways to compose
heuxheux, that's obvious... the scale mode is there for a reason and PEOPLE USE IT. It would be helpful to know those shapes. He asked what we want to learn and I told him.
@@sharialawisthesolution3800 Scale mode is for people that don't know music theory. Easier to be in chromatic while playing live than change the scale every time you need to play a minor chord.
