@Dan - Nope, it was all Jimin! He lived it! That song is personal, talking about stuff only he would know & feel!! Haha! He did say he texted Tae a lot, to discuss some of the lyrics Jimin wrote on Tae's behalf though!! Jimin apparently is the type to do as much hands on with as much time possible to spare to do so!! Just like his song Promise that he also composed the melody for, he sat in and gave his suggestions and advice during the production process! Although this time Jimin actually literally was involved producing!!

I think jimin participated in the writes since he knows the incidents mentioned in the song the most.
@Dan - Yes!! You are correct! As I mentioned, Jimin helped produce it but other in-house producers were indeed also involved! BigHit has some absolutely outstandingly amazing producers that don't get all the credit they should get, because they too, are so involved in just about every song BTS creates as well! Even CEO Mr. Bang Si Hyuk becomes Hitman Bang again, as hands on as he is, and gets involved! But for Friends, I believe, like for some other songs on this album, they even had the help from in the US engineer & musicians, from LA, doing some of the actual music, as well as background chorus. There was so much involved in making this whole album. So many pieces coming together!!

They studied in the same highschool. They woke up, wore their uniforms and go to the same school. Then debuted together as BTS members. They wrote letters to each other, wrote songs about each other ( V wrote 4 o’clock for Jimin and this Friends song). Jimin always comfort Tae and he gave Tae the dreamcatcher when Tae had nightmares. V bought a snow globe for Jimin. Jimin bought some cups and bears toys for Tae’s Winter bear song. V remembered to buy needles for Jimin when jimin said he needed it because his pants are loose.
ALL OF THESE SMALL STORIES IS THE DEFINITON OF TRUE FRIENDSHIP.

FUN FACTS: Jimin gave that dreamcatcher necklace for Tae to wear to guard off nightmares that he was having! The dumpling story was way back years ago one time during dance practice there was an issue that came up of being rewarded with dumplings. Carefree Tae wanted to eat them right away, but quite disciplined Jimin when concerning dance practice, wanted to eat them after they finished dance practice, which for him was the priority!! Haha!! Jimin wrote the lyrics & composition of this song, & also helped produce it!!!

Jimin and V’s bond is very special. They call each other soulmates. They grew up together as trainees (both are the same age), debuted together, went to school together and everything. Jimin is always there for V through hardships and V loves him dearly.

1. Jimin's line "hello my alien". Alien was Tae old nickname because of his unique n 4D personality that people found out as interesting, funny yet weird (because out of box). But this nickname didnt get use anymore
2. Tae's lyrics mentioning "promise with ur little pinky". Jimin has the smallest pinky finger in the group n jimin also has a solo song 'promise'
3. Tae's line " hey Jimin today". This is BTS inside joke to call every members who coming late when they get ready to go out or for work. It because Jimin often get late, so when other come late than Jimin they will call the late member "hey, you are Jimin today".
4. The dumpling incident that Jimin mentioned, Tae n Jimin once fight about dumplings. They want to eat dumplings together but they get fight for what time or when they will eat it, it's before they went to practice or after the practice lol and this was also the time V wrote the song 4 O'clock bcoz of this incident.
5. The dreamcatcher that hanging in Tae's room for 7 years. It when Tae told Jimin that he had a nightmare n it makes him hard to get sleep well. So Jimin bought a dreamcather for Tae in hope it can protect him n catch Tae's nightmare so he can sleep well.
6.even all BTS members is close to each others, but Tae n Jimin often said that they are a soulmate for each others n they want to be a friend forever even they are being a granpa.

Behind the scenes info- Tae and Jimin had different schedules so they recorded separately. They had a blank section on the track where the lyrics were still being decided. So they ended up using that empty section to leave each other sweet notes and words of encouragement to listen to when they next came in to record. They ended up keeping one of these messages in the song- it’s where Tae says ‘Hey Jimin, today *pop*’. That pop sound represents popping a champagne bottle/clinking glasses, so he was basically saying hey Jimin, let’s go drinking/celebrate ;_;.
