    Why would you shoot at it facing straight away from like that? I know she’s not pulling a 90lbs bow it wouldn’t have the power to pull that shot off. Bad choices all around. Should’ve waited for a better shot. I’d expect that shot from a kid but not an experienced hunter. I wouldn’t have posted this.

    • @deermeatfordinner
      @deermeatfordinner  9 месяцев назад +169

      This is Sarah. I explained it on camera but it didn’t make it in the video… I was over confident taking that shot. I should have waited and I should have been patient. That buck came in sprinting, I drew and when he picked his head up I thought he was going to bolt again. I wanted Robert to post this because it’s a humbling experience and I want other people to learn from my mistakes. Nobody in this comment thread can kick me more than I kicked myself. If I was a new hunter I would have never taken that shot, I have experience and thought I could make it happen. Huge mistake and huge lesson learned. No matter how much you hunt that still doesn’t mean you can take shots at that angle. I’m ashamed of myself, I’m not ashamed that this video is out there for other people to learn from. I picked myself up and after a hard hunting season, I brushed off the dirt and redeemed myself in Oklahoma.

      False. I understand we lose deer but she should not have taken that shot. That was a terrible quartering away shot with a very light draw weight bow. That deer will most likely die in a few days and it would have suffered the entire time because she was not patient. When you shoot a low weight bow, you need broadside shots for a complete pass through. That was liver and guts.

The glowie is the back end of the arrow and that is near the hip, but the arrow looks like it got caught in a couple ribs. There is a lot of shaft that never even went into the deer. Had the deer presented a bit more of a broadside for her, she'd probably have gotten it.

    That's hunting 🤷‍♂️

  • @tedanderson463
    @tedanderson463 9 месяцев назад +1

    As soon as we deviate from our training..... That's when you start having problems.... That arrow is probably embedded in the hide just outside of the rib cage.... That was not even a quarter away shot.... You know it and I know it you got to wait until that deer broadsides for you... Arrow placement is so important..... See what happens when you don't have patience.
    This butcher told me that 7 out of 10 elk have arrow scars or the arrow is still embedded in the elk when the next hunter shoots it... This is why.... Inexperienced people hoping for the best shooting an animal too close to dark.... Taking a poor shot... Try and learn from ope other people's experience.

    • @tedanderson463
      @tedanderson463 9 месяцев назад

      Next time get a tracker out there and have him find it for you or get the drone out.... Maybe you did get a tracker... And maybe you did use a dog.......
      Think about this..... If you were with somebody that had a GPS.... That was knowledgeable about the general area.... That had experience in night tracking.... Remembering that a deer's eyes glow in the dark.... And now there's other reasons and ways that I don't even know about how about infrared... How about trying to drive the deer back towards you somehow. I really feel sorry for the elk....... with people that just shoot right into the herd hopefully trying to strike an elk in the vital area.... It's just not going to happen very often .....what a waste of time.... And like I said some people will just shoot right into the herd of elk.... They all take off running.... Are you going to keep track of which one got hit.... Please tell me how you're going to do that..... I know you would never do that right .....,???? .....but still. That kind of stuff goes on because of inexperience and impatience. Somebody will shoot an animal too close to dark and you're supposed to wait 20 minutes before you track it.... Now how are you going to do that and still make it back to your car or truck and still be safe out there in the wilderness.... Pitch Black.... Possible bad weather.... Possible disorientation get lost.... Panic... Hypothermia... Dehydration... Total exhaustion even if you do find the animal.... With a big elk like that.,. where it falls ....that's where you're going to be cutting it up.... Are you going to make 8 or 10 different trips to the animal back to your truck back to the animal in pitch black dark.... Never should you try and harvest an animal too close to dark... There are some exceptions if you have lots of help and lots of LED lights. And you had a relatively close shot and the animal dropped.

      5. Some people get it and have spent time in the woods and have lost a deer along the way, so they understand. I made a mistake and am human and am owning up to it and expected blow back, but it’s an important lesson to learn for new hunters.

    Please believe me when I say I’m just asking an honest ignorant question. I’m new to hunting and bow hunting. Where would you be aiming with the deer quartering that hard? Attempting to come in behind the back of the ribs?

    I agree with most of the previous comments.
    But , I watch the video about five times,when she shot the deer. And the arrow placement was on the back strap.
    Which would have cause bleeding. But not as much if the show placement would have been in the side.

    Been there, too. I don't know which is worse, this, or taking a small 'Y' buck a half hour prior to sundown only to have an 8 pointer walk under the stand just as you're getting ready to get down. You said right, Sarah, 'there will be another day'.

    It happens I have taken what appeared to be perfect shots and never found the deer.
    In the past I have taken shots that were horrible risky shots, that I would never take nowadays & had short track jobs.
    You live and you learn through your experiences.
    Keep your head up Sarah! Besides the Coyote and buzzards have got to eat something! 🤷🏻‍♂️👍🏻🥃🇺🇸

    Happen to everyone but practice makes perfect didn't c you use any yardage on video , in bow hunting it's a game of inches so knowing the exact yardage is critical looks high quartering good but hard quartering too I've been a bow hunter since 1980 all I can say is get back on stand and practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice and then when you think k you got it practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice practice some more shoot strait this k that buck will recover maybe you will cross paths again good video. 👍

    How could you be confident in that shot?? Your bow most likely doesn't shoot more than 250fps and your most likely shooting mechanical braudheads that require 300fps or more to properly open on impact. I love your videos, sorry the deer got away and please switch to fixed braudheads. It will do you and every deer you shoot a favor.

    Sara, I can’t even begin to explain how seeing this makes me feel… I’m so happy and sad for you all at the same time. You put in the hours you put in the work and dedication for it all! We are hunters and we are outdoor enthusiasts. I hate to see the bashing and down right negative on all of this but I know you and rob both have thick skin with hearts of gold! You’re both true to this lifestyle and way of living! I know without a doubt even like you said if you didn’t believe in that shot you wouldn’t have took it. Nature and gods will had its course and that one got away. You didn’t take it out on the animal or your future hunts and I think that shows true love, care and compassion for these beautiful creatures we have the privilege to hunt for our nourishment! So proud of you in not only your success but your failures! Keep your head up to quote you “2024 is your year”!!!
