I definitely agree! It's about being respectful about someone's space and their shopping experience. It's so annoying when people do that whole looking right where you're looking but from opposite direction. I won't move when people do that. I just play chicken and awkwardly slowly inspect the article I'm looking at. 😂😊 usually this works.
Okay… I ALWAYS do this but when we meet in the middle I ask if they want to trade places. Seems efficient to me in a busy crowded location 🤷🏼♀️ should I stop?
@@TheGoingcrazygirl I think it's often not hard to pass each other without being too close. Especially when the store is crowded, I don't think there's always a feasible way to keep traffic flowing one direction, like what are you supposed to do then if there's two people in your aisle who are going different directions? You can't match both. I think you gotta read the situation and just try not to hover too close to someone and to be polite about it. But obviously different people have different mental rules about what's polite or annoying.
@@TheGoingcrazygirl No need to change so long as you're a sweetie about it! The thrift stores I go to are in a very busy, crowded city and it's unavoidable that two folks with meet in the middle at some point. I also ask if they wanna trade spots, and just make sure I don't get in their space... which I have a feeling you do too. Jumping in on someone's space or riding their tail like that lady did is a *very* different thing imo. I swear some people do that type of thing on purpose.
So how much space is respectful is so subjective city to city and state to state. I live on Oahu and everybody's bubble is so tiny here. Like sometimes you can tell someone's a tourist because you can see how uncomfortable they are with how close everyone is to each other. Even the lanes on the highway are smaller. And especially because nobody seems to live in the same place they grew up. It's probably just best to remember that every single person grew up with a different idea of how much space is respectful and they aren't being rude they are just from a slightly different culture.
I'm obsessed with your novelty safety pin as cardigan clip. Very borrowercore. And I like the format of FaceTime thrifting! Can't wait for next week's video!
Came here to say this! @kathleenillustrated, you really are saving the world one less thrift store trip at a time - and I'm so down for window shopping vicariously through you as a form of healing 💚
I was looking for a mini slip skirt, to wear under my skirts that are a bit too short, for over a year. Finally found one today at a vintage pop up event I went to.
I have literally found the chef pants at the thrift store and bought them, and what an amazing purchase. they're actually woven (not just a print) and slightly fuzzy feeling, they're oh so comfy and the pattern is fun and makes me feel like a muppet for some reason
Oh my gawd I literally searched for this channel expecting that 2 weeks had passed but it's only been two days since I saw this video. Kathleen my mind can no longer perceive time due to your delightful personality, bonkers
kathleeeeeen lmaooo we have the same thrift shop pet peeves! XD also the automatic captions translated "back off" to "bark off" and i love that sm for some reason edit: i love the facetime vibes in this vid
5:06 I do not and have never played softball, but like... would I buy that and wear it if I saw it at the thriftstore? hell yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!
I wanted to comment to specifically let you know its super cool to introduce a video formatting variety! Sometimes I do just want a quick video during a fast lunch, or a small break from work, love ya never stop being amazing!
Loved the casual vid! And I especially loved saying bye 5 times like I would on ft lol. But honestly I love any type of vid you try! Thanks for inviting us to hang out, had a fun & stinky time!☺️
Funny that you mention the thrift store etiquette rules. When I started watching your videos I would think things like: 'I wonder if Kathleen has issues with space invaders, too.' Some of the rows at our local thrift stores are so narrow that I won't even go into the aisle until someone else is done and I get offended when they don't follow this rule. 💡Thrifting etiquette video idea??💡 Love the casual, thrift-with-me vibes, especially when you are looking for something specific or showing us something you talked about.
Kathleen, I love how you've pinned together your open cardigan with a huge safety pin - how cool ! I have one that came with a vintage kilt... might repurpose on a cardigan like you have. Thanks for the idea !
Hot pads or pot holders or oven mitts, often depends on who you ask. I make my own homemade custom ones so I know a lot about them. The style of them have changed over the years and those ones look like they were knitted or croqueted by someone with a lot of love.
I'll come along for casual thrift time all day every day if it's you! 1000000% hard agree with etiquette. It must be something in the air because I've had an abundance of that this week as well.
Hi Kathleen! Just wanted to let you know that I'm a new subscriber who's been binging your videos for z week. I discovered you channel on the first day of my period and it was just the perfect content for spending the day buried under a pile of fluffy blankets. Made me feel stinky (in the best way of course)
If someone cuts in front of me while im actively looking through a rack and they start going the opposite way, when they get closer to me, I'll stop looking at the clothes in front of me and just stand there and stare at the clothes they are looking through. No direct eye contact, but comes across with a weird energy that most people get what they did wrong and move on lmao 😂
Oh my goodness, YES, on tge thrifting rules of engagement! Common sense and courtesy seem to be getting less and less practiced at thrift stores. It's extremely frustrating. I'm glad I'm not alone in noticing it. 😊
Im excited for this flip coming up! Pumped 🎉 I've been wearing quaint aviation outfits with some thrift finds from the last few months. Short jackets and scarves with flair. ✌️✨🌌🛩️
I really liked this format! Very relaxing. There are enough interesting things to find at a thrift store to make it fun to watch even if there isn't some bigger "goal" or theme with the video. I would be happy to see this turning into a series!
Hmm, I feel like it's not always obvious which way people are going in the thrift store right away, if they're looking at an item and not actively moving. (And sometimes multiple people are going multiple directions in the same aisle when you get there...) I usually start wherever there's more space between me and others, so sometimes that does mean we're moving toward each other if they're just starting on one end. But I'd rather move slowly toward the person than start right behind them? I don't like when it feels like someone's hovering over my shoulder waiting for me to move. Even if I do pass then from the other side, that seems less awkward to me than passing them going the same way because if you're going the same way, it seems like you're rushing them or implying that they're going too slow? I haven't thought about this until this vid.
Loved the video, loved the format, please feel free to make more videos like this It is refreshing and chill and cool and stuff Thank you for the video 🩵💙💜✨
I hope that I can actually some some cute thrifted boxing boots. I think they would for a non-athletic look. Soft boots aught to be more common! And I would always watch you more casual videos! They really lend to your best friend-vibe. I would have bought that Never Ending Story shirt in a heartbeat!
The patchwork business skirt? I want. I need. But every time I buy a skirt I weirdly can never figure out what top to pair with it. It breaks my brain.
You are my absolute favorite to watch right now. "I'm not here to buy anything"...5 min later- full cart* Me: "Ma'am, you can not take merch into the bathroom!!!!"
Yes, have I been a subbed for a little while. And yes did I marathon through your uploads and still have many to watch. Yes. So Thankyou for starting my 2024 strong!!!
Well the 2 thrift stores in my area suck every once in awhile I can find something good but most of the time not so much. Still fun to go every now and then ❤.
Chef pants as every day pantsssss for the win! ❤️ you'll never catch me without my wideleg cookmanusa pants on 🤟👹 that's my personal trend I'm trying to make a trend this year.
This was a fun video! I would love to see you style an outfit every trip even if it doesn't fit! My rules for shoppers varies based on population density. In cities, kinda just have to let things go. However, in less crowded areas, I agree that people need to back off!
I’m definitely with you on the shopping rules. If you see me going in one direction on a rack, isn’t it just common sense to respect my flow and my shopping experience and move the other way, or skip ahead a bit?? 😩 (but I have to say, usually people in the thrift store are very nice and respectful 🩷)
🙌🏻 yessss! I hate when someone starts coming up the isle I’m going down and I know they see me moving in that direction and then it pisses me off cause they have made it weird and then if I’m annoyed enough, I will circle around to get behind them and hover just so they get the point of what they did lol 😅
I had the exact same giant safety pin years ago, a true thrift fine. The leather pants looked fabulous, too bad they are not your thing...but, they could be? Couldn't they?
I could not have resisted turning that NeverEnding Story shirt into a jacket patch or the side of a canvas tote.
ahhh ahhh ahhh a never ending stooooREEEEE aah ahh ahhh
Same! 😭😭😭 I love it so much
Me either! I couldn't have resisted.
I liked the facetime vibes of this video! I love being a little guy coming along on Kathleen's thrift trips, it's a very comforting vibe
same!! it’s good vibes casual body doubling 🥰

Borrowercore is the bessst
Loved the casual video and gave me the thrift shopping hit I needed without actually going to the thrift store!
Came here to say this! @kathleenillustrated, you really are saving the world one less thrift store trip at a time - and I'm so down for window shopping vicariously through you as a form of healing 💚
I’ll watch any kind of Kathleen video, because who knows what pearls of wisdom you’ll lay on us!!!! ❤
(⊃。•́‿•̀。)⊃ have you had some wawa today? like... ANY? a thimbleful, perhaps?!
I was looking for a mini slip skirt, to wear under my skirts that are a bit too short, for over a year. Finally found one today at a vintage pop up event I went to.
I left my water bottle at home 😭😭 I'll take some extra sips when I get home
Yes! Two thimblefuls in fact
Kathleen: I'm not going to buy anything.
Also Kathleen: I'm buying things for the next video.
I'm 100% with you on the thrifting "rules"/etiquette! It drives me bonkers when people get right up on me as I'm making my way down an aisle.
I'm always us for a casual thrift store visit. Those tapered leather pants might not be your favorite aesthetic, but they look divine on you.
I second the motion on the leather pants! Classic silhouette.
thanks for inviting us to hang out! this was lovely. now I'm thinking I should facetime one of my friends as I go thrifting, as a treat!
You're really the only person to ever acknowledge my time warping long distance telekinesis. That camera of yours is my favorite target.
That ruffly brown skirt was super cute! ❤
I love this as a video concept, feeling like I'm on a FaceTime with an iconic sister is the 2024 vibe ❤
I'm a strong believer of rack respect, Kathleen Illustrated.
I have literally found the chef pants at the thrift store and bought them, and what an amazing purchase. they're actually woven (not just a print) and slightly fuzzy feeling, they're oh so comfy and the pattern is fun and makes me feel like a muppet for some reason
Nice! Swedish Chef vibes? Anything that makes me feel like a muppet is the best thing ❤
New 2024 trend - MUPPETCORE!!✨

Uh also PS how gorgeous is Kathleen’s hair color situation right now? Love.

YEH BOI NEW KATHLEEN DROPPED 🎶🎷🐳
Kathleen, I love how you've pinned together your open cardigan with a huge safety pin - how cool ! I have one that came with a vintage kilt... might repurpose on a cardigan like you have. Thanks for the idea !
Can’t wait to see the babytee mysterious up cycle
Shopping etiquette most definitely exists and when others don't extend the same courtesy I give them, i get the ick and leave the store lol
Hot pads or pot holders or oven mitts, often depends on who you ask. I make my own homemade custom ones so I know a lot about them. The style of them have changed over the years and those ones look like they were knitted or croqueted by someone with a lot of love.
I can totally relate, I often mumble under my breath “back off, you are in my personal zone”. 😂❤
You're making me need a massive safety pin/kilt pin. 🤩Maybe oversized jewelry can be the next big thing!
I'll come along for casual thrift time all day every day if it's you! 1000000% hard agree with etiquette. It must be something in the air because I've had an abundance of that this week as well.
Hey Kathleen just wanted to say I loved the more casual, facetime vibe, really felt engaged
I will never stop loving long neverending form long content, but do what you have space for, my egg dude. #staystinky 🍳
I hear you on the thrift shopping etiquette! I hate when people get too close to where I'm looking at stuff. Feels uncomfortable
I'm totally up for more casual hanging out at the thrift store videos. It's my favorite type of these videos
I enjoyed our facetime thrifting trip ty for taking us along 🫶🏻
I just found your channel last month and I'm obsessed! You're adorable and so fun to hang out with! I love these types of videos!
Aw! So glad to have you!! Thanks so much 💕💕💕🐛
Loved the casual vibe of this video! I agree there is a code of conduct while thrifting and the getting right in front of you is rude.

Excited for the dyi coming up! I’m always looking for inspiration.
The patchwork business skirt? I want. I need. But every time I buy a skirt I weirdly can never figure out what top to pair with it. It breaks my brain.
filming a thrift with me and not buying anything is so smart HAHAHA would give me my dopamine hit without me actually spending money
I definitely would take a shorter video over no video, but also... I love a long video 🙂I would shop with you for an hour!
Loved it! My vote is for more! Of course, I watch and love anything you produce.
Chill thrifting works for me! ❤

You're an angel, a little thrifty angel xo
I'm excited for thrift flips!! :~)
That Neverending Story T-shirt tho!!!
The outro bit 🤣🤣 I love your humor so MUCH
