Part 2 of my series - Miss World vs. Miss Universe: A Friendly Comparison - looks at the nations who’ve achieved the most combined success at the two biggest and longest-running international pageants.
Venezuela, USA, India, South Africa, Puerto Rico - it’s no surprise these countries are front and centre in this video. But hopefully you’ll learn a few fun and nerdy facts along the way.

2000 was really a glorious year for India in pageantry,because all the three women who were selected for international pageants won their respective international titles. Lara Dutta won Miss Universe, Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World and Dia Mirza won Miss Asia Pacific. It was absolutely a wonderful year.I hope to see that again from India.
Indeed it was, Manju! It’s very rare for the same pageant to produce three international winners, let alone MU and MW among them! Here’s hoping India can return to those glory days again! 🇮🇳😎❤️

The company changed, that's where it went wrong. India's pageant scene was extraordinary from 1990 to 2000.
Update : India now has 9 crowns in the alphas
3 in Miss universe(After harnaz sandhu won)

FACT: In 2000 Femina Miss India sent 3 delegates to international pageant and all 3 won(Lara Dutta- MU, priyanka chopra-MW and Dia Mirza-miss asia pacific ) The most successful trio ever!
Such an incredible trio, for sure - it’ll be some time before that feat is achieved again!

To be honest these are the only two pageants I believe the most. Although I’m not an avid fan of miss world. But what separate these 2 pageants from the rest are now their uniqueness.. the speaking ability for miss universe (opening statement, top 5 q&a, top 3 q&a and closing statement) while miss world are the fast track, head to head & beauty with the purpose. Although I’m still inlove with miss world point system before then top 10 announcement immediately.

My grandmother used to say me she watched both mu and mw of 70's and 80's ... She said that apart from Usa and Venezuela ,Sweden was a familiar name in semifinals and top 5 ....
She recently asked me if Sweden is forming that well. I said not quite ..... I said as a pageant fan that Sweden 's beautiful girls performed very well in pageant's past but nowadays they have lost their spark...Sweden, Finland , Germany, Netherlands are some European countries that my grandmother said used to dominate the pageant..... Hoping that European countries do it again .... They have beautiful girls but they have to just train them well....😃😃😃🇪🇺
I feel like in the 1970s and 1980s MU was very much a BEAUTY pageant. It wasn’t about philanthropy, or being ‘fierce’ or having an amazing walk. The European queens still struggle with that type of performance - that’s why I suppose they do better at MW than MU these days (apart from Iris, of course). But yes, hopefully that changes again soon!

The country also has the longest winning streak (six years), having held the titles of Miss World 2013, Miss International 2013, Miss Earth 2014, Miss Earth 2015, Miss Universe 2015, Miss International 2016, Miss Earth 2017, and Miss Universe 2018.

Yeah its very surprising, considering the fact that they’re one of the fashion capitals of the world. Although there have been titleholders of Italian descent (e.g Christian’s Martel and Olivia Culpo), they haven’t had one as a nation.
There's an error in the collage @18:17 showing the Colombian 1st runners up at Miss World. The 1996 photo is actually of Anuska Valéria Prado, Miss Brazil (in the gold gown). Miss Colombia, Carolina Arango wore a light blue ball gown.
Thank you for pointing that out! I wish I could go back and make corrections. I actually wasn’t 100% sure about that photo selection, so my hesitancy was justified!

16:10 Did anyone notice that the 1974 Miss Universe sash's color scheme was exactly the same as Miss USA's national winner's sash? The letters were in blue, the background was white, while the trim was in red.
Miss Italy, 1960: Daniela Bianchi was first runner-up at Miss Universe, where the winner was, Linda Bement of the USA.

Curiously from 1951-1957, Miss Great Britain was chosen, but Morley stopped letting them participate, since they did not meet some characteristics of Miss World, so Eric Morley created Miss United Kingdom in 1958-1999

I think the Philippines should focus on Miss World now, i still can’t believe that the country only has 1 crown and that was 7 years ago... The Philippines had already been winning the other 3 major pageants more than once, and it’s only Miss World that’s left

Miss World is about the facial beauty whereas Miss Universe is the whole dimension : body, face, attitude, being fun ala Victoria Secret model, and intelligence. Kind of like a Wonder Woman Gal Gadot
By rewatching this video again, I just dont understand why in Miss World 1973 doesnt allow the 1st runner up to take over the title in that year? Great video by the way

I think she was offered to continue the duties and responsibilities but without the title. 🤔 it felt an insult on her. That's why she declined it. The 2nd Runner Up who took over the duties, did not have any recognition 😐. The original winner still in the record book of Miss World despite being dethroned.
It is interesting that a tiny country like Puerto Rico have that many queens,

Miss USA also didn’t make the Top 12 in Miss Universe 1976.
PGN it was a big puzzle why ev pascual did not take the crown she always mention i will stoop down too much if i accept it rumours have it that she really won but mw cooked it my take at that time PH was nt yet a phouse country but your info is really new, great video as always😀
Wouldn’t it be cool if both pageants had scorecards on record that they’d be willing to release to the public? Apart from the televised scores in the earlier stages of Miss Universe it’s always been a mystery how easily some contestants cruised to victory, and how others won by the slimmest of margins! Back in the 80s no social media you really dont know what is going on so scores are a real help, but now with forecast here and there we know now who is really strong most who do the forecast get it, but yes why not bring back the scores for added spice😊
Morley in a press release: “No one will be chosen to take the title of Marjorie, which will remain vacant until the month of November.” This debunks rumors that the crown had been offered to Miss Philippines and that Miss Jamaica had replaced her in some engagements as Miss World.
It must've been in Pascual's head that she would have been offered after hearing about Marjorie's fate. In fact there was no succession plans for MW in prior to 1973.

I think the focus of the MW and MU Organisations is more so on philanthropy than glamour and pure looks these days. MV had that formula down to perfection, but ever since the pageants became more about helping others that’s where Venezuela has struggled to keep up... in my opinion at least.

Puzzling how the two powerhouse countries ; Colombia and Philippines have relatively modest over all showings in MW and yet dominate in MU. Compare that with countries like Venezuela and South Africa whose track records are consistent in both pageants. Is there a flaw in the formula for Ph World and Col World?
Yes, very true! I suppose the “sash factor” between pageants varies as well, and Philippines and Colombia certainly seem to have a stronger one at MU than MW. But then you’ve got nations like Iceland and Jamaica that do so well at MW and less so at MU. One of the quirks, I suppose 🤷🏽♂️

It’s because MW and MU are different pageants in both Colombia and Philippines while Venezuela and South Africa representatives are chosen from the same groups of girls

They’ve been so close - four times! But not quite close enough… Amy Willerton was their last great chance in 2013 - she was amazing! And while they’ve done well in the past few years I think they really need another standout like Amy to give them a chance of finally winning that elusive crown!

I think for the moment it’ll be tough - the owners of the MU Organization (IMG) are looking for a certain type of woman that’s part model, part spokesperson and part philanthropist. TBH I thought your delegate in the most recent MU was awesome! She had a really strong advocacy and I can see she continues to work on it even after the pageant. I think she fell a little short in her stage presence, in the swimsuit competition she was a bit awkward with the cape they were given. The training the bigger pageant nations give their contenders puts them on a different level in that area at least.
India is the final boss of MW and MU beauty pageants.
Final boss? India hasn't won a Miss U crown since 2000.
