Excellent analysis of the Any% category of Banjo-Tooie and Hagg's recent incredible World Record. I think we'll see this time go down very soon as this route has the potential to save over 50 seconds over the last WR route. Shoutout to the Banjo community for caring about this old bear and bird game :)

I really like the "this trick took me x tries to do" parts, shows how hard/easy some speedrunner tricks are for people who aren't familiar with those tricks Edit: also the tutorial parts for some of those tricks, and the insights such as showing the geometry of the game at work behind the scenes, whole video is really good, keep up the good work
Bro tried to speedrun his commentary too 😮💨 I like that you don’t talk at a snails pace but man, that speed is really exhausting! Maybe slow it don’t a bit for the next one. Great video regardless!
Appreciate the feedback! I’ve been called out for speaking too slow in past video so I guess I tried to compensate for that lol. Will definitely work on pace for the next one
This is a very valid arguement which is why there is a No DCW category that completes the game without that glitch. If this glitch didn't save that much time it would most likely be banned but since it saves over 2 hours in the Any% category and it uses data you can't delete manually, its allowed.
The thing is, if the game cart has ever played any of the bosses, the mini game menu will permanently have the boss. So essentially almost every copy of the game is a completed file. The only way to modify the boss menu is using gameshark cheats
@@Hagg_64 Alternatively, you would have to use one of those cart-reader/writer things that are not that easy to get your hands on to begin with to write a blank save file from an emulator launching the same game for the first time. That's a whole lot of money and work just to clear the save data when the runner could just decide not to run that category to begin with.
@@Hagg_64 oh, so, i think thats kinda like dk 64 then? I think? Im not super familiar but in speedrun videos i remember something like that being brought up as to why rta runners use a trick
Has anyone tried speedrunning the game after entering "CHEATOLAICEPSYGGIWYGGIJ" (Jiggy Wiggy Special, backwards) to unlock all levels? You wouldn't have to do any of the clipping tricks on the stages.
Look up Cheato% which is basically Any% with cheats. This used to be the fastest way of beating the game until this new route that Hagg does came along. You also don't have to spell the cheat backwards, its one of the secret ones the game doesn't tell you about.
Nice to know that everyone struggles with speedrun tricks at the start. I attempted early bombs in Metroid Dread (eventually managed to get it) and even something that small was really hard to do. I can (typically) do the steps, it's putting them together perfectly in one complete run that hitches me up. The Speed Runners put this nonsense down to a science, and so do the videos explaining how to do the tricks, but actually DOING them, is harder than it looks. Like a LOT harder.
There is never enough Banjo content imo and especially on the speedruns. I had to watch (listen) at 0.75 speed to keep up with the sheer amount of information but an excellent video nonetheless.
Given the respectful nature of the subscription request, you can add me to your list xD! I STILL wish there was a proper Banjo Kazooie 3 :(. Maybe one day xD
Good video, but I can't help but point out the audio spikes all throughout inbetween many of the transitions in your commentary script which did get rather distracting.
It is a fun video, but the static sound made when showing another creator isn't the best, sounds like my speakers or headset are dying and that isn't a very pleasant experience, I would rather silence or a less abrasive sound effect if this format is going to be done again.
Hmm weird I didn’t hear any static sound when I played back the video, and I didn’t use any audio from the actual speedrun. Either way appreciate the feedback!
Yeah admittedly the pace was a bit fast with this one, but if you didn’t know that there’s two of us that run Press A then that could also be why it sounds off lol

Isn't there a category of Speedrun that's a true speedrun that limits you to what you have access to with a brand new file and no access to postgame content? I believe it was RingRush that did this when he any% TAS'ed DK64 a few years ago and therefore delayed his use of main menu skips until he actually had the requisite part. I'm curious to see what an any% of banjo tooie with this modifier looks like, since that basically bans the use of the "warp straight to Hag-1" glitch since that requires that you have already beaten the game to get access to that as a Replay before you warp to it...
How can you have a wr of like 26 minutes if you have to beat the game prior? If Beating the game once is needed to get that time then that needs to be calculated in or it shouldn’t count at all.
I wonder... couldn't you skip HAG1 completely if you used the cutscene glitch if you just booted the credits from the replay mode instead of the final boss?
@@TSRStormed aww that's sad. You talking about Mining Melancholy? DKC2 OST music is used in a lot of this video, this clip has mining melancholy playing in the background. If so, I have to disagree with you. David Wise made fantastic music for that game and I take every opportunity to listen to it.
5:23 not necessarily, it could be a skip that uses the knockback, it could lose time to try avoiding damage, it could be that if you get some auto-difficulty level gets reset, it could be that if you get hit you generate some resource that would otherwise be slower to get, it could be to activate a glitch... and so on and so forth.
You're arguing with speedrunning incels who don't know how to appreciate their games. But this is a mediocre Nintendo/Microsoft IP so it isn't relevant.
