It's almost as if a baseball fan is looking for a feel good factor with this comparison. They are two different sports and cannot be compared, agreed! Then why are you even comparing?

Just few examples below;
Batting : Cover drive, straight drive, lofted shot, square cut, square drive, helicopter shot, upper cut, flick, on drive, off drive, leg glance, pull shot, hook, defence, reverse sweep, reverse hit, sweep, paddle sweep, cut shot and a lot more (A batter looks at the bowler's hand and the field set up, plus the weather conditions and the pitch, guesses what kind of delivery it is going to be and decides what kind of shot he or she wants to play. Batter does variety of things to put off the bowler. Shot selection is very critical in cricket. Not just swing the bat)
Bowling: Seam bowling, conventional swing, reverse swing, change of pace, slow bouncer, knuckle ball, in swing, out swing, off spin, leg spin, chinaman, flipper, dusra, googly, carrom ball, bouncer, Yorker, leg cutter, off cutter, straight ones and many more (Bowler should know the conditions, batter's strength and weakness, sets up right field and decides what kind of ball to deliver. And sometimes there's bluffing and double bluffing with field setting and their bowling actions)
Fielding : Keeper, 1st slip, 2nd slip, 3rd slip, 4th slip, gully, point, silly point, forward short leg, mid on, mid wicket, 3rd man, long on, long off, silly cover, deep cover, deep mid wicket, cow's corner, deep fine leg, fine leg, leg slip, long leg and so on (A captain and the bowler set the field as per the situation of the game, batter's strength and weakness and lot of strategies go into it)
Formats: Test, ODI, T20
Wicket taking options: Bowled, Caught, Stumping, Run out, LBW, Mankad, Handling the ball, obstructing the fielder
Scoring: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, Byes, Leg Byes, Wide (off side, leg side, bouncer), No ball (over stepping, beamer, bouncer), Penalty 5 runs, Over throw

A baseball batsman can hit the ball with a cricket bat with all his strength in that comparison... But out on the cricket field if he hits a ball that way he is surely gonna end up in one of the fielders hands.... Its not just about getting bat to ball, its about finding the gaps, selecting the shot and timing the ball to perfection.

Do agree with most of the aspects presented in the video. The video missed out informing on "Pitch" and "Weather" which impact a Cricket match perhaps more than any other sport as they can make Cricket that much more difficult and exciting. Sure something similar was missed out on Baseball as well but Pitch and Weather may not be that impactful in Baseball.

If Rick and Korbin think that the cricket ball is easier to catch and soft to touch ,then I can only say that they haven't yet played a professional match with a cork ball. Numerous careers and lives have been claimed by the cricket ball, and Phlip Hughes is just one of those. People have lost eyes, had permanent deformities in their fingers, especially Wicket Keepers. And also there's no logic in saying that having to throw 92 miles+ balls in a 18 yard pitch and having to roll over your shoulders,use your hip , knees, spine to bowl a cricket ball @88+ miles in a 22 yard pitch ,with perfect swing,seam movement to showcase your skills till the batsmen get out , over after over for atleast 6or 7 overs on the trot. And there's no logic in pointing finger at 1 player with gloves which are way softer and you can stiil get your fingers fractured in them, unlike in baseball whose gloves are harder and bigger than a WK gloves for a relatively smaller and softer ball than a Cricket ball and gives more cushion and protection. If in doubt notice MSD and Gilchrist's fingers. All the other 10 players with the bowler in the firing line don't wear any gloves. If u think with that thigh pads and leg pads the batsmen has it easy then I suugest you to see the state at which Pujara left Australia and yesterday Rohit's photos of his bruised legs, along with Vihari with a torn hamstring, Jadeja with a broken finger , Shami with a broken arm all impacted because of a cricket ball. The batsmen has less than one tenth of a second to judge, play a correct shot against a cricket ball, he/she has to judge the spin , dip , seam movement, swing direction, the condition of the pitch, the delivery stride, the delivery angle, the place the ball is pitched ,the turn, in that milli second. Not to mention a million ways you can get out, the communication the batsmen has to have with each other, the fielder to judge the wind and boundary line and running speed to catch the ball barehanded, it's very complex ,and not an amateur youtuber won't understand. It's easy to degrade a sport because they grew up with a different sport altogether, if people think they can point at the fact that Football and other sports are played in extreme rain and cold ,then I suggest them to look at Cricket played @40* C with 95% humidity, 7 hours a day, for 5 continuous days, battling cramps, dehydration, illness, sunburn, then you know what I'm talking about. I thought these guys have started to know some bits about cricket but seeing them agreeing to this video, i feel like they never gonna accept the reality😒.
The unpredictability and the minute reaction time for the batsman to judge what happens to a ball after its contact with the pitch/ground by a bowler makes cricket one of the most complex and fascinating sport.
According to the pitch conditions and weather:
1. Ball can swing, seam and spin bothways.
2. Bounce of the ball can be unpredictable.
3. Speed of the ball too can vary.
Once this aspect is given the core consideration, baseball is just a baby sport in comparison to Cricket. No matter how big the size of the bat is.
Factss the guy didn't mention because he wanted to be neutral
You would know then that when the cricket ball lands on the pitch is loses some of its' velocity..measured at an average of around 10%. Now you don't have to be a genius to work out that a cricket batter has more time to react over a baseball hitter for a pitch delivered at the same speed.
In case you don't know the speeds are measured at point of delivery.
Also a long striding pitcher can deliver a legal pitch and also be a good two metres closer to the hitter with his stride and arm pronation. Given the bowling crease and pitching plate are very close in distance from the hitter in normal positionsyou can work out an approximate difference in reaction times.
Both sports are fascinating when you are prepared to recognise the skills, technicalities AND you know the Laws of Cricket and Rules of Baseball.

The best batter might go 20 straight at bats without a hit or the best pitcher will have a stretch where he gets rocked. Players are constantly adjusting throughout the season which is far longer that a 5day match. I mean cmon

@@philmccracken179 what mate you do know cricket has different formats right? You think it's a 5 day match lol a series is consisted of 5 test matches of 5 days meaning a month. In that you have to play for longer hours. All three possibilities like win draw or loss is possible. Each day things change you have to constantly change your strategies. Btw each day you have 3 session and in each session game changes. Think how much they need to adjust in test series. Leave that aside they have to play 2 more formats odi, t20 which are both way different than test. They have to play leagues like IPL in between and world tournaments as well and you talking about adjusting of baseball players seriously 😆. People in cricket need to adjust every day due to test, formats and leagues and world tournaments. Don't talk when you nothing.
Cricket is a superior sport to baseball. This is not due to the physical skills required to play the sport, but rather the strategies, the tactics, needed to win in cricket are far more nuanced and subtle.

Actually the wicketkeeper is the only one who wears gloves. Baseball players only wear one glove because they have to catch and throw quickly. They have a glove because they have to physically tag runners out who are sliding into them with metal spikes and throw the ball as hard as they can to each other from close distances. None of that happens in cricket. So comparing a cricket fielder who just jogs down lightly grazed grounders or bend over and pick up a ball that has been tapped five feet to a baseball fielder is just insane.

Well nobody does because they are only in the field half the time. The rest of the time they are chilling. But baseball plays everyday for 6 months. I know 6 months isn’t as grueling as 5 days but cmon
No big deal a baseball match last just over 3 hours that is just a session in test match and there are 15 of them in a match and mostly a series has 5 test matches that last for month, there is tournament called WTC which lasts 2 years. Get some knowledge brother

just a small thing to mention that cricket bowlers arent allowed to straighten their arms fully when bowling compared to pitchers. this is in context of the fastest deliveries in each sport.

I myself still haven't been able to develop a legal bowling action while sprinting while bowling in baseball would be easier. Plus don't forget in cricket there is a crease for the bowler if he steps out he gets a penalty so it's even tougher lmao
can you sprint fast and bowl 101 mph without bending your arm. It requires physical fitness and mental fitness especially in the test matches 5 days, and forecast plays a major role, under the hot conditions it requires stamina.

Cricket is so complex that most of Indians/other audiences who watch Cricket enthusiastically, sometimes, don't get the complex law of Cricket like D/L, Umpires call etc.
A pitcher in baseball just throw a ball obviously with certain variations but a bowler in Cricket just don't throw a ball, they just can't chunk/throw the ball, there has to be a 30 degree round arm rule to be followed for a bowler to become a legitimate one otherwise Jadeja could have been the fastest bowler since he got the bullet throw.

1. Both sports originated in same era. Wikipedia page gives cricket's historical accounts dating back to 16th century.
2. Baseball is popular only in like US,Japan,South korea and NZ. It's less in both no of countries playing and population.

But yes I agree that some rules have been changed and are still being modified for the betterment (subjective) of the game. Good examples would be DRS, mankad, powerplays, umpire's call,super over etc
comparing pitching and bowling is not cool. Bowling is an art and way more difficult than pitching. Pitching is just throwing the ball. And for the bat size, cricket bat should be wider because the bowler bounces the ball on the ground so there will be lateral movement off the pitch so it's nearly impossible to bat with a baseball size bat. In cricket full toss ball is considered as the easiest ball to the batsman, no bowler will bowl it in a match but in baseball only full toss ball is considered as legal. And only wicket keeper wears the gloves and no fielders never wear gloves in cricket.

There's just 1 point I'd like to argue about.The point where he discussed about "Harder to hit in baseball than cricket." You can't decide this based on the fact where a professional baseball player is hitting with cricket bat, but someone who knows cricket is trying to hit using baseball bat. I'm sure if you ask ANY international cricketer, he will hit the ball using baseball bat without any difficulties. Because I've seen cricket players training to hit the ball using cricket bat sideways (Which has lower surface area than baseball bat), with finesse. This kind training is done by a lot of cricketers to perfect their produce the impact of the ball on the bat EXACTLY where they want.
One more point, not an argument, just an observation. Pitchers have to THROW the ball, but bowlers have to BOWL the ball. There are RULE's involved, which if not followed, may lead to illegal delivery, or in some cases, even the bowler getting BANNED from bowling in a game. (Case in point: Sunil Narine, Saeed Ajmal)

What is this guy even talking about? No one said that cricketers bowl faster than Baseball pitchers. It's obvious that the baseball pitchers are faster as they throe the ball which is not legal in cricket. Cricketers have to keep the arm straight while delivering the ball. And Same for batting. No one claimed that it's harder to hit a cricket ball than a baseball pitch. In fact those full tosses are the easiest deliveries to face as a cricketer lol. Cricket is lot more than just hitting with power. The thing that makes batting difficult in cricket is the art that comes into play while facing the delivery. And that too is different for different kinds of surfaces (a surface can be seaming or spinning), and more than power, it depends on timing and placement. A simple flick can make the ball go out of the park if it's timed well, while trying to just whack a ball can lead to going high up in the sky and ultimately a catch to fielder. the flat bat comes with a disadvantage also that it had edges to it which cause the ball to just go up high in the sky and get caught by fielders, which isn't the case with a round baseball bat. So, a flat bat isn't always an advantage if you don't have proper technique to play with it. This dude himself is an American. Cricket has a variety of batsmen who act for a variety of niches. I agree to some extent that it requires more accuracy to hit a baseball than a cricket ball, but a lot of stuff goes into cricket that one must understand. Let me say how
1.The opening batsmen, like Virat Kohli for ex, are the most skilled yet they aren't trained to hit the ball out of the park. They are the "foundation builders" and they just hit for small runs usually, as they can't afford to be out because cricket has just 2 innings. They are tasked to maintain steady run rate.
2. The second category of batsmen are middle order and lower-middle order. They are kind of like baseball players. They just focus on brute strength and just "power hit" the ball. They are lower in the order and it doesn't matter if they get out, so they hit according to their will. Also they aren't trustable as they can get out any moment and don't really defend.
3. Cricket particularly unlimited overs cricket requires skilled, patient batsmen. It won't matter if they hit for biggies, because game will go on for 3 days and they will probably get caught after like 3 overs of risky play. So there the niche is to play small shots and just test the bowlers.
4. Limited overs cricket, T20 or T10 is kind of like baseball where the primary focus is to score more runs in limited time. So power hitters like *Andre Russel* become stars here. West Indies even won T20 World Cup for same reason.
In short, Baseball/T20 is like Lion that can hunt with great power for short spans. Cricket is like hyena and wolf that chase their prey until they die of exhaustion.

But just adding one point the video forgot to make is that apart from being able to ball slow and fast, there are lot more variations for a cricket bowler. When cricket fans say its easier to hit in baseball is partially true imo. I think a cricket player with some practice will outperform baseball players. The pitching in baseball where the ball doesn't bounce is called a full toss in cricket and trust me its the most easiest delivery for batsmen to score runs. I know the bat sizes and the speed of ball in baseball is more and that's why I said that the statement is partially true. I think with enough practice a cricketer can outperform a baseball player. Even we as kids use to play cricket using stumps instead of bats and the width is twice as low as compared to baseball bats and we could actually play decent with it and I think every person who has played gully cricket would agree to it.

One sport should never be compared to the other even when you are trying to learn a new sport. One thing that really annoys me is seeing people learning about cricket always making comparisons to baseball like "oh in baseball you can't do that" and "in baseball it's like that".
