No problem bro. I appreciate it and i'm glad i'm able to help out the community since I know we will have many more peeps on this platform once the 2nd Gens come out later this year haha
Chayness Of course bro! After watching the video w/ the turbo XS bov I had to get it lol, just put it in today! Thanks for the helpful videos.. love the sound of the bov
I recommend putting your car in a dino, to trully know how much you gain, no car will gain so much with just an intake, you can get a lot more from doing a tune up. That's just my recommendation. Most likely you only gained about 4 horsepower.
While I myself, am skeptical of a 16HP increase from an intake, 4 HP is really not giving enough credit to intake systems. And though I have not dynoed this car, i'm sure that at the very least an intake on this is good for at least 8HP to the wheels. I'm not trying to change what you believe, but having seen cars jump onto a dyno with the basics (exhaust, intake, etc) see double digit gains, I wouldn't discredit an intake that much. The average dyno gain from a short ram on this car has been around 10HP for Cold Air, 8HP for short ram. I will agree with you though..... 16HP might be a stretch lol but I wanted to be transparent with the claims. I think i'll make another video comparing all the intakes?
I did something similar before buying this one. Even made a video where I basically just replaced the filter box and slapped a cone filter to the stock intake tube lol.
Its actually more of a dust shield. The intake itself will still soak up heat because of the piping. This intake was intended to be a Cold Air that I chose to run as a short ram. The K&N is a dedicated short ram right in front of the grill so it's more prone to dust.
It's not necessary but the combination of them will give you a nice amount of extra power and will help the Veloster perform a bit better as it's being less restrictive.
Not at all. This kit is meant to originally be a Cold Air so where it typically goes, there isn't much room for mounting a shield. And since it wasn't meant to be a short ram, it has no shield similar to the K&N.
I have not heard any changes to the existing products on the market however, it may be harder to get your hands on as many vendors no longer want to sell or ship parts to California due to recent harsher enforcements against car modifications.
I’m a bit late, just got one last week. I liked the idea of modding a car myself so went and got a 2016 turbo. So, this intake is intended for cold air but what did you differently to make it a short ram? I live in a very rainy and humid weather.
Hey! So all I did was not install the second pipe (that makes this a "Cold Air") and find a replacement shorter filter to fit the single main pipe, thus making this a "short ram" air intake. Hope that helps
Hey brother, I currently have the air box delete mod (thanks for the tutorial btw) like you used to and I have been thinking of buying a proper intake , do you think it's worth it ? Can you really feel that much difference ?
I think it's worth it. The big thing is this. I paid as much as I did for mine because I live in California and didn't want to risk the emissions stuff. You can find intakes for a little over $100 for our cars so it's pretty affordable.
It's kinda like a ram air that would route the air down and to the right side (the driver side fender had a hose that went into that and into the stock air box). Removing it will just allow air go straight into the engine bay.
praying you reply since this video is old hahaha, but did you notice an overly loud wind sound leaving in the oem bottom part of the intake towards the wheel well? i just set mine up last night and it's an overbearing wind noise. "wooshy" if that's a word lmao.
This is normal. Intakes will make a "woosh" or suction sound. If you did the whole "cold air intake" setup using the second pipe into the wheel well, it'll make since that that is where you're hearing this sound from as opposed to short ram intakes where the sound comes from under the hood.
Chayness, How did you get your "carb legal' sticker, looked on Aem site and couldn't find anything out about getting one for the states that are illegal to own one. Any help would be great.
Mine came with it in the box. Are you looking for a Veloster or another car? This kit is legal up to 2016 Veloster Turbo models. Though this fits on the 2017 and the 2017 models are exactly the same, it's not considered legal on those.... but cops won't usually check to be honest.
@@Chayness No doubt! re-checked aem site, found yours... I'm hopeful it'll fit an elantra 1.6T, should...been lookin at the engine bays and contact points need that sticker!...Damn
Its the same engine, just the ES has a smaller turbo. But it should mount up almost the same. The mounting point for the extended piece may not mount exactly the same since on the VT it mounts to the outside of the battery box. But i'm sure you can rig something up ;)
@@Chayness I don't want to stretch this post out but.... When you smog check any probs w/ your 17 VT? No duh! aem goes to 17's and then stops for the smog sticker right? It shouldn't but it depends on your dealer. I'd ask first. My dealer was ok with mods as long as they were bolt ons (easily installed and removed like intakes and exhausts for example)
@@Chayness ty Brother I really do like your videos keep up the great work. I will definitely ask them about that. Another question i saw your OCC Video should i worry about getting one installed as to save my engine. I don't beat on my car but from time to time get on it as I'm sure most ppl do. I have a 2015 Turbo
I actually made a whole video on that subject and a few others. Check it out. The bottom line..... unless you're going to tune your car or will heavily modify the car, it's a very small difference. ruclips.net/video/5dpFr6rjV8U/видео.html
It shouldn't but check with your dealership. Some will be really strict about honoring warranties with even minor modifications like this. There was an official note from Hyundai floating around stating they were ok with intakes but i'd still check
There is a law called the magnuson moss warranty act that states no companies can void warranty because of modification, unless that modification is the cause of a problem
I've seen the engine layout. It looks almost identical with a few exceptions but i'm going to say no. The bpv seems to be located in a different area than before, and obviously mounting brackets and such wont be the same. Lastly if it did fit, the CARB legal status of it would not hold valid.
Chayness awesome, I'll wait till I get it to buy a short ram. But down here in GA, we aren't emissions per state, but we are per county. Already decided on a short ram, BOV, and probably a wrap lol
Chayness I can't wait either! They ordered it a few weeks ago (there are NONE of the 19 Rspecs in the area, so it's being made and shipped, and it'll be here within 3 months. Also what's up with the 3000$ difference between the 19 turbo rspec and the regular turbo? Only difference I see is the regular has a sunroof. Not worth an extra 3k imo.
A tune will help you get the most out of your intake (and this is more true for the 2nd Gen models) but it's not required to get some difference and better flow without the tune. It''ll make a difference (obviously a smaller one) but one some people would gladly welcome
That is a very good point but some of us still want a bit more power. This car could still use a little bit of love under the hood when it comes to power and efficiency.
Put a K&N intake on my 23 sorento 2.5l turbo and the intake sounds at low rpm are so fckn loud and honestly really annoying. Its awesome when youre getting on it but of you arent its really fckn annoying due to the open air intake design. Buy the aem dont fck with the k&n trust me. Im trying to save you money. Do not buy the k&n system for the kia/hyundai 2.5l turbo engines. Its literally burning $400. The AEM is more enclosed so it should be perfect. Wish i would have bought this instead...
What filter did you end up requesting?
I ended up getting part number: 21-202DK
It's the same diameter, just a shorter filter so it can fit behind the headlight.

No tuning required but to get the most out of it, tuning is a plus.

Typical 10mm Socket and Wrench, screwdriver (suggest both drives just to be safe). That's pretty much it.
