  • Big things are happening for CSX in Baltimore! The historic 125-year-old Howard Street Tunnel has officially closed for reconstruction, marking a major milestone toward modernizing CSX's I-95 Rail Corridor. This project will enable double-stack intermodal service, strengthening connections from the Port of Baltimore to key Midwest markets while boosting regional economies. With completion targeted for the second half of 2025, we're excited about the opportunities ahead for CSX, our customers, and the community. #ONECSX

    CSX is doing a great job upgrading their system. I have heard for many years about the bottleneck in Baltimore. It will be good to see trains running seamlessly through the city.

    Great to see this project up and running. The careful interactions by CSX Management with the community in planning for this major infrastructure improvement have been impressive. Hope all goes smoothly, as planned.

    Keep up the good work CSX! Phase one is complete. The tracks have been removed and the ballast has been parted. Now for phase 2 undercutting all the soil in the tunnel will be removed and replaced with concrete that way track panels can be brought in there so the double stack trains can get through.

    Hope to see more intermodal traffic along the I-95 corridor on a daily basis and NY-Atlanta (Fairburn, GA) service return as well, NS is beating the socks off CSX on that NY to Atlanta corridor. Looking forward to what may be coming in the future for CSX after this project is complete along with the Meridian and Bigbee RR project with CPKC.

    What I have always read about that tunnel is that the floor couldn't be lowered because of underlying infrastructure. There were plans to raise the ceiling slightly. My question is how they are now able to lower the floor.

      I dont see how you can lower the floor without increasing the grade. at the north end the tracks are practically resting on the roof of the B&P tunnel.

    Hopefully they can get the tunnel done in an efficient quick effort so more traffic can take the OML, maybe more double track

      OML not cleared for double stacks. Those will take MET and CAP into Baltimore.
