    so if i want to lower my fork 3inches, i have to make a 5 inches cut into the spring and and 2inches into the bottom, right? im not sure if i get it.
    and the PVC is just to make it stiffer or optional?

    can you still use the stock fork tins or do you have to cut them?

    Great vid. Contemplating lowering my Virago xv1100. I got weaker right leg, but I am use to the bike now. My feet touch flat but would be nicer with more knee bend. The bike is top heavy a touch. I wonder if I only lowered front and left back alone what else gets effected. Clrarance? Oil float for oil lever sensor. Seems like it would still work. Your attention to detail is much appreciated. Subscribed and looking forward to more vids.

      steering is better if the front is higher more stable going strait. I would lower the back first. A set of shorter universal shocks is really easy. also If you slower the whole thing, you will have to shorten the kick stand, forget about the center stand, you wont be able to get the bike up by yourself.

    Hi, if i just add a spacer on the pipe seat(lowrr part that the short spring sits in) and don t cut the long spring at all to get the fork be stiffer woyld that work?
    Thanks in advance🙏

      Hi there, what ever you cut off the top you need to add at the bottom....that's the only way it will work right.

    HI THERE,i like the video,the problem is im not really good at fixing things.i do hava a 1980 kawasaki 2 stroke enduro,and want to drop the fork about 3 to 4 inches,is it okey for me to just remove the the top bolt and full the spring out,cut and put it back and do i really have to add a spacer too?thank you....

    • @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs
      @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs  5 лет назад

      If you don't have the spacer on the bottom it's not gonna work....it might be actually dangerous to ride it that way... is there possible for you to just loosen up the triple trees and push the forks up? This way you don't have to get inside... it's fastest way to lower it if your design allow it.

      measure them unloaded, eye center to center Yes they are avaliable in lots of lengths. Done it on lats of hondas.

    I'm going to assume its the same theory for MX upside down forks, showa (crf450) in particular, transforming to a drag bike so I need it shorter and stiffer, please advise ;)

    • @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs
      @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs  6 лет назад

      I am not sure if the inverted forks would be lowered the same way...I did not try it myself yet. However you might be able to just run the forks up the triple trees and find a way to stiffen the internal spring with a spacer...if the length of the fork you desire is huge difference from what you got now, you might have to replace the forks with some sport bike front end perhaps...I am just thinking out loud here and not being able to see your project in front of me it's making it impossible to give you the right advice.
      You can take your forks apart and see if the same principle would work ...that won't cost you nothing but seal kit and fork oil...good luck and thanks for your interest in my channel !!! I hope you will subscribe and see you soon !

    lowering front shocks a sudden brake Suspension Bottom Is there a collision?

    • @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs
      @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs  4 года назад +1

      Of course there will be a limit how low you can go... you have to use your judgment.... Make sure the lower triple tree does not hit the front fender when you hit a pothole or sudden breaking.... you can see in the video that I added a spacer to make the forks more stiff... Thank you for your interest and please subscribe to help me out 👍

    I have a hard time driving the outer bushing in, does it have to go all the way in?

    • @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs
      @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs  4 года назад

      If you are talking about the bushings under the oil seal then YES...they need to go all the way in...if not you won't be able to get the oil seal all the way down to install the clip above it to keep it secure...thanks for your interest and please subscribe to help me out

    How did you figure you needed to cut 5" from the top spring?

    • @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs
      @DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs  6 лет назад

      I needed the extra space for the PVC spacer to compress the spring and make the front end stiffer. Since I lowered the bike a lot I could not leave it the same...

    • @jeffreymacha2712
      @jeffreymacha2712 6 лет назад

      I guess what I am asking is, how did you know it would come out to a 2" drop?

    • @jeffreymacha2712
      @jeffreymacha2712 6 лет назад

      Nm disregard that, dumb question.

    • @ferdiandcornelius3481
      @ferdiandcornelius3481 5 лет назад +1

      the 2.5" drop is not come from the 5" cut.
      the 2.5" drop come from the 1" + 1.5" "cutted" spring on the bottom end.
      the 5" cut that replaced by a PVC is just to shorten the spring to make the fork stiffer since it get lowerd now.
      so that should not be 5" but based on your reference. for approximation longer = stiffer.

    F%ck! And then the armenians cutting springs. Have not gone out of fashion? Our already get smarter and put air suspension, but the cars, apparently tired of dragging them through the speed bumps (looking very funny), lining the pieces of wood to cross a speed bumps... With motorcycles differently, learn quickly, because punched crankase hits the pocket $$$....
