Fun fact- after Estinien sacrifices himself, an aether current flies by you. It's at this point that you can start collecting them to gain flight in this zone.
@@Kekira perhaps as part of Dawntrail update, but it does now. I checked as soon as I arrived at Ultima Thule (yesterday) and it was detecting them. Nothing I could reach though
31:22 , song name is Revenge of the Horde, first heard in The Final Steps of Faith. The way this song lines up with the cutscene on auto play is magnificent, as do most songs that play during voiced cutscenes in this expansion. And the game cleverly has them start after a player would switch on auto play or after a player decision, to give the moment the highest chance of occurring. Incredible design that I look forward to seeing continue in Dawntrail.
2:10 I mean, if the Garlean cloning tech they used for Solus' body is still around then they absolutely could have pulled off that angle. Super glad they didn't though!
ultima thule hits me hard not only as a 10 year vet living the game patch by patch but with all the RL crap that happened to me around my 1st playthrough of EW
I love how the music builds after each sacrifice. It's like each scion is unmaking themselves to build you a path just as the song is building to its full version. Also I love how both of them instantly tagged what was goin on as soon as Thancred's sacrifice was explained. Since I grew up on Halo, my first thought was "oh damn we're Noble Team"
Yeah, I think for most people they figure it out with Thancred's sacrifice, since Hydaelyn's Chekov's Gun is so obvious. It's crazy how they can telegraph what the entire zone is about so clearly and still destroy you emotionally.
@@jaesacesI somehow never picked up on the Chekov’s gun but I still caught on because I knew there was no way that they would do a “he died off-screen lol” to Thancred. Also the rest of the scions didn’t really react in a major way. No way my boy doesn’t deserve some fanfare and tears.
@@Strider1321 Yeah they make it obvious what's happening at various points so even if you miss a few you should still pick up the conceit of the zone: 1. Hydaelyn gives you the ability to "give form to formless" 2. Meteion lets you know Thancred is still around but has lost physical form 3. Suspicious amount of scions begin doing the same thing 4. Y'shtola basically outright tells you that you can bring them back. By the time Y'shtola does her bit, the question anyone asks shouldn't be "will the scions come back" but "how will we change conditions here so that we can bring them back without 'losing our way forward'?"
I'm like, super late to the party here, but any time I see someone get to this point, I feel obliged to tell them this extremely tiny detail about Al End that is like my favorite thing, because they stuck themes in their _goddamn conlang voice acting_ Specifically, draconic has a thing where there are two specific sounds (an aspirated H sound, and the low growled N sound) that mark a word as 'unliving' or 'living', respectively. It's sorta like gendered words like in spanish. Now, those are relevant here for a very specific reason: Al End's pronunciation. His voice is super weird compared to every other dragon we've heard, and it's because he's leaning almost entirely on those two specific sounds. which _means_, tl;dr, that he's so focused on the inherit concepts of life and unlife that any other possible meaning to his words is almost lost. It's so fun and so _absurdly_ niche. I have yet to see anyone else catch this and I make a point of sharing it as much as I can
It's a shame you've been spoiled by the existence of Dawntrail that everyone lives. I guess it's like watching the prequel trilogy of Star Wars now. You know the broad strokes already, all that's left is to see the details of how we got from A to B. 21:00 Go and appease your gremlin overlords. 28:25 Vault music is cheating. 31:25 And Heavensward music is next level cheating. 35:05 The wind has cleared away the fog, and the music is a touch clearer.
I feel like even on release it was pretty clear what was going to happen from at *least* the moment that Meteion says Thancred's soul lingers, if not sooner. Hydaelyn handed you the most obvious Chekov's gun of all time. I remember calling almost everything that happened and *still* got emotionally wrecked by it, which I'm sure the writers anticipated.
@@jaesaces Maybe so, but there's a difference between "pretty clear what was going to happen" and "you've already seen the trailer for the next part of the game with all those characters alive".

Someone needs to check if the compass detects any current before this 😂
