Finding parts has become a nightmare, was a joke a few years ago.. anymore, I've been making more and more parts.. unfortunately, I can't make everything. I hate the IH muffler setups. You didn't want the aspirator to rust out!!! It then sends exhaust into the air filter and burns things up. Had that issue on the 5288.. and the 1480 combine. Got lucky both times!! Good luck Pete!!
Thanks Ed! Yes, Think i'd prefer the old 66 series exhaust, even if it means staring at a big-ass muffler above the hood. Farming with 50 year old equipment has it's challenges.
I did the muffler delete on my 1086 and it bolted on with no problems. It might be a little bit noisier but not too much, the 86’ cab is pretty quiet. The delete also gets rid of a lot of heat from under the sheet metal. Really like the your channel, good luck.
I ended up with my neighbor over to help put the muffler on my 1086. We had to really clean the turbocharger pipe and a file on the muffler pipe to get some beers off. Then we use a pry bar to get it to go together. He was on one side, and I was on the other to line it up and pry. Best of luck.
Oh my goodness Mr Pete, the struggles are real it seems!! Pretty slick on that steering motor, thank you sir!! Oh boy, seems the whole exhaust system on these are difficult. Had a little trouble with tht muffler delete I added to mine as well. I understand the dilemma, I am in the same boat with the road tractor. Love the straight pipe sound, but not sure I want to hear it all the time 🤣🤣🤣 Looking fwd to seeing what you come up with on the solution!! Thank you sir for bringing us along!! 😁😁👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
I like your ending text box! Is the muffler from CNH or aftermarket? I have not had any luck with aftermarket exhaust pieces. Looking forward to seeing your solution!
Almost no aftermarket parts fit anymore
Finding something that fits is like winning the lottery.

Sometimes, those old tractors can be annoying to get parts for, but I know you will get it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
You are definitely an inspiration pete
Thank you!
Good thing you started this project in early February.
No kidding!
Thanks for the update Pete, looking forward to seeing your solution good luck 👍
Thanks!

Thanks Nelson! I think a straight pipe would sound cool for about the first ten min 🙂
@@farmerpete 😁😁😁👍👍

Thanks Chris! It's Aftermarket. The CNH parts man told me they can only get the aftermarket ones for these old beasts.
Parts parts ,never the same . What a bummer, now you got to fabricate something.
The joys of farming with a 45 year old tractor. 🙂
Well the good news is that the 86 will sound amazing with a straight pipe 😎
I might yet have other options 🙂
Ah... the old flame wrench.....
I'd be lost without it! 🙂
Dang! What an ordeal. These aftermarket parts sometimes leave a lot to be desired.
That’s for sure. It’s a crapshoot.
I’m wondering if the downsizing of the outlet pipe will not supply the proper turbo boost that it was supposed to have ?
I assume they had a reason for running the bigger pipe with the aspirator. Not sure what it is.
I will get you some earplugs, just in case!
