I personally have communicated with parents who have been offered MAID for their disabled children who were in no way shape or form anywhere close to death or likely to be so.
If this had been around when I was 17, I would have been likely to opt for it. I am now 62. Those issues are long-gone, but I am still here and thriving.
@janestratton8219 This is exactly why this worries me. Time can change your outlook. I just worry that some who choose this could have a different thought process in a couple of years. That being said if a person is of age and mentally competent then it doesn't matter what I, or others think. They should have the autonomy to do what they choose.
Poverty frightens me. If I couldn’t support myself, I know the social support isn’t there. As a result, homelessness is a very real possibility. The government is taking the stance of survival of the fittest here. If you can’t contribute to the economy and pay your taxes then you are a burden they want to simply disappear. Thank you for making this documentary.
Rosina was my friend, and I saw her deteriorate over time, not having enough to eat and live with dignity. It's such a sad reality. The help she needed, including the meds and assistance due to disability weren't available. It was a lot of loneliness, being made to feel useless and a burden when asking for help. It was tragic, to say the least. I was with her the last night of her life till 2am.
I'm glad Rosina had the right not to be forced to continue to suffer. Just forcing people to live does not solve the problem of loneliness, lack of benefits, inadequate access to medical care, etc. All you're doing when you force someone to live against their will (i.e. prevent them from accessing effective, risk-free and painless suicide methods through some channel - whether that be the healthcare system or any other) is punish that individual for the way that they've been failed by society. That cannot be the right answer. That cannot be the humane answer. Ultimately, each individual should have the right to choose whether they want to live; not be forced to serve as political chess pieces.
Many simply want their lives to be better, for more home care, better medical care and more social interaction. The first gentleman may have misunderstood, many people would be concerned, others seeing how worn down he seemed. Forgetting to return smiles with others signals far too much isolation. With terminal or intolerable conditions, at least 3 persons should certify approval,- a panel of three with members allotted (shuffled) to each case randomly,- made up of a lawyer or judge, a senior physician and a layperson. Pain relief training must be improved or have a dedicated unit in all bigger hospitals. Medicines can make a great deal of difference. Therapies need to be reviewed. Many retraumatise patients and some are vicarious for the therapist. Teaching coping systems and shaping moving into an improved future are most often a better route for non-terminal patients. That govts find bumping people off whose lives could have been turned around is a sad indictment of our society.
May Allah swt rest her soul. So heartbreaking to think that because of society's obsession with capitalism and money that the option of simply dying is put out there for those who are suffering rather than looking at the root issue and fixing it. Human life is worth more than that and yet here we are deciding which option is more 'cost-effective'. Shame. The Western claims of 'progressiveness' and 'humanitarians' are being exposed day by day.
He will say: “O my Lord! Why have you raised me up blind while indeed I had clear sight (before)?” Allah will say: "Just as Our revelation came to you and you played blind; so are you blind today." 20:125-126
Making some people struggle below the poverty line, resulting in their life being absolutely unbearable is terrible. This should be addressed before offering MAiD, seems like medical negligence.
@realKarlFranz Nope. I'm ethical. I rsalise that no one asked to be here, and no one should be forced to stay jf they don't want to. That's called respecting people's rights.
'One should die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly'. My mother received MAID 4 days ago. She found out she had Stage 4 lung cancer (very advanced) and metastase everywhere one month and a half ago. She lost all her autonomy in the blink of an eye. She didn't want to wait to be in pain and with no chance to get better, she choose this option. She could not deal with the fact that she had to rely on others for all her needs. We respected and welcomed her decision. She left so peacefully. I am so happy for her she was eligible for MAID. RIP Mommy.
I would do the same if I found myself in a similar situation. I am sure your mom is doing well on the otherside and appreciates you being supportive in her decision to die with dignity.
Horrific... your mum was murdered by her government and medical health professionals. No other way to see it. I'm.sorry for your loss. The truth is the truth even if it hurts and because yours is a public comment there needs to be someone refuting this madness.
Having a psychiatrist is non existent here in Canada. You are able to have up to six appointments with a psychiatrist and that is it. Psychotherapy is only available if you have private insurance. People with mental illness, who don’t have help available to them, should not be able to decide between life or death. Canada needs to take care of its people who suffer with mental illness. Canada healthcare is deplorable.
So is American Healthcare. It is getting worse. Doctors spend most of their time filling out insurance forms. Remember waking up sick and calling the doctor and seen that day. Now, it's at least a month waiting for the family doctor.
I felt this way. And got a rope and was done when i got off work. A tiny kitten was at my door i let him in. 3 years later im happy i get to sleep next to my best buddy even know im broke and struggle. ❤
That Dr saying pain meds are useless in the long term should be fired! I’ve suffered from chronic pain for 35 years. After Lymes disease and postherpetic neuralgia after a terrible case of shingles. I’ve been on Tramadol for 20 years. I’ve never had to increase my dose throughout all of these years and it makes my pain manageable. I don’t know what I’d do if I weren’t able to receive those meds.
last year, a close relative of mine was dying of cancer (untreatable) and they opted for MAID. there was a lot that went into the approval process, but the procedure itself was quick and peaceful. i was there (along with other family members), so i got to see it first hand. the person got control over the end of their life after the disease tried to take that away, and it spared them from possible months of suffering. i hope the MAID option is still available when my time comes.
Yeah and that's great. But when disabled people are forced into poverty and isolation and not fixing the effing systems that does this this and long term care homes are torture places cause they won't hire enough people to be caregivers, that's morally evil. Its evil to offer maid without fixing these issues
it "should" but it is almost impossible. also not to be able to eat and be housed adequately is very difficult. it is a shame on society that these people have to chose death.
My brother is dying right now. He's missed the opportunity to make a lucid final decision about MAiD. Watching him die now, in long drawn out excruciating pain, is unbeatable and cruel.
@@keepgrindingkeepwinning9237 I’ve been suicidal and I’m so glad I found a purpose. It was a choice I had to make. Awful world? Turn off our TVs and we’ll see. It’s all programmed to make us feel the world is awful.
The fact that the landlord wanted to get rid of her only friend/ family, her doggy is beyond cruel. Did they offer any help to her? She had no one except her dog and one friend.
Here in America there are laws to make animals emotional support animals and landlords can’t ask let alone anything else. The fact this was a service animal is illegal for her to be kicked out.
I think in Scotland, there was going to be a law passed about land lords banning tenants from having pets. I didn't follow up on that so I don't know if it got passed or not.
@@ArabianConjurehere in Italy a pet doesn’t need to be “emotional support “ not to be evicted , any domestic animal cannot be evicted from a home . As they are part of the family . Seems like Canada and ste states , and the Uk too aren’t the best places to own a dog ( or any other domestic animal ) .
I am 77 years old. I’m glad they are extending MAID and hope I have access to it before I become too disabled and have to move to a nursing home. I worked as a registered nurse for 50 years, 16 of those in nursing homes. I know what I’m talking about. Some people become so tired of suffering that they would rather die and I support that fully. It’s better than having to commit suicide. It should be a choice available to each individual but with guidance and directing to other available resources like mental health care, medical care, etc. if they so chose. Why hang on to life when you can’t even take care of yourself?
I disagree in that people are not getting adequate healthcare. Might be a choice later in life but what about those who are younger and suffering from an inadequate and inaccessible healthcare system? Disabled continue to be the ones living in the deepest poverty. If the choice is between living with dignity and dying with dignity then most would choose the former. Give people the supports and care they need - not death as an option. There are reports detailing the cost savings of MAiD to our healthcare system .. people should question this more.
@@ongaku3925if MAiD is saving costs that's even less suspicious, because insurance companies would rather collect money for years, not approve of MAiD which would end the insurance checks immediately. There's tons of ways about how the world SHOULD be, but the reality is how it really is. People are reacting from the reality, not from how things should be.
I wish him the best and all of those struggling. He’s a nice person who deserves happiness, love, and peace. I understand the depression & social anxiety; I hope these people with depression/mental health struggles are not having their mental illness being taken advantage of by these new policies
What scares me about this, is when will they start telling people who are disabled, people who are blind, people with learning disabilities, etc., that this is a viable option. Terrifying.
@@JimmyDean-vr1vm Hmmmm… because blind people, disabled people you know.. they are happy to live right? The simple idea to suggest to those people that they can die if they want to is absolutely disgusting. They are valuable, and society is actually a lot better because of those people (we learn to take care of each other, etc etc)
You are talking for those people, not everyone is happy wih their disability. Not everyone wants to deal with it or be helped. We should not talk for everyone, or force them to live.
This is beyond horrible. No one should have to die because society lets them down. A rich country like Canada has more than enough resources to actually help these people. Euthanasia is not offered as an act of goodwill or mercy in these situations, it is offered because it is cheap. Absolutely vile.
This is the saddest most heartbreaking thing I have seen...i mean wtf...how lonely are we all....there's a person more concerned about her dog toy than her dying life
I'm 37 years old and going to be 38 in august. I've been suffering from chronic pain and chronic illness since I was 13 years old. I've had every type of trauma you can think of, and I have no friends or family. I have a life of pain and suffering truly, and I believe that programs should exist to wear. If you don't want to keep going, it should be up to you❤
I am over life. Ive never wanted to live, but never had the guts to end it. I wish I could give “my” life to somebody in need that really wants to live and has a reason for it… because I have NONE.
There is something of a debate around whether or not people should be able to choose “death by donation” wherein people with intolerable suffering eligible for euthanasia can instead choose to die by having their organs removed to transplant to those who do want to live. In some ways it sounds like a terrific idea, but ultimately I tend to think we have to make 100% sure someone is doing this for themselves alone.
It is easier for the state of Canada to give a lethal injection, because it is cheaper than helping them with food, medicine, medical care, housing. What a shame.
No medication can make you feel loved and no treatment can give you everlasting peace. There is only one way, I tried everything and nothing worked. There was only one person that helped me out of depression, anxiety, and existential confusion.
I 100% agree that people who suffer should be able to end their life peaceful. But not for a lack of caring and resources. This story is just heartbreaking 😢
A lot of spin in this story. Cue the sad music and loaded questions. This woman had physical suffering, all family far away. She said maybe if she had friends and no stress she would want to live. A country can't just give someone a bunch of friends. And even if they did have people sit with her every day there is no guarantee she would be happy. I would give anything to have this in my country, the U.S. Things are really messed up, I agree. If we gave everyone $35k a year and a rich social life - maybe Sweden does that?, yes maybe that would save some. Who even knows, but that is not our world. I wish it was. But what do we do with this world, not an imaginery one. I would love a socialist utopia. What if we never get one?
When medicine fails you, therapy fails u DNA test to see what u have, specialists etc. And it just doesn't work and that it's expensive to boot. This and I feel it seems to be the only option. I feel for this man.
Hey man, hang in there!!! Things are not always going to be like this!!! And I know this is going to come out of the left field but I highly recommend learning about Islam, which contains the truth and meaning of life. @@NormEngel-ge2it It's not so much that the government needs more services. What's needed is better access. There is more money spent in administration than what is given to aid with a mandate that has a bias to not providing aid.
These people lied and/or were given decades of free treatment and anti-depressant drugs. These fringe cases don't equal 'a cop out'...MAID is one of the most compassionate programs and makes me proud to be Canadian. We don't allow our pets to suffer like we forced our loved ones to- before we had this program available.
I was a millionaire in my 20s employing 10 people. My business had 6 stores. I lost EVERYTHING in the pandemic. Romantic betrayal, business failure, that all made me want to take euthanesia too now in my early 30s. Candidates for assisted suicide are not only mentally ill people. But also persons like me suffering from tremendous personal pain and disappointment.
It's not even that. It's just simply wanting to be at peace. You could be quite wealthy and even healthy but if you're tired of getting up each day and tired of losing people you love and watching the world get worse every day then what's the point?
Noone should be able to force someone to suffer for "10, 15 years" just because they think it's sad. we should absolutely be allowed to choose our death-its gonna happen anyways eventually. It's safer, more compassionate and less intensive on resources if a self attempt fails and they require hospital care to recover. I don't believe it should be because you're "lonely" but mental illness is as potent as physical and people should have the right to choose when and how they die.
Resources shouldn't come into the picture though. I do believe if this man lost 100lbs, groomed himself better and held a false smile his life would have a slither of hope. We are a by-product (confidence wise) of how others perceive us and then treat us to some extent. He's a victim of our compassionless society and how we treat those perceived to be at the bottom of the heap. Before helping him to die he should be helped to live. The trouble is nobody with depression wants to live and this disease can remit entirely in some cases with the right interventions.
People don't care !!! And this is fecking sad. I've no choice either. Her case really reminds me. So much pain daily. Also so much abuse, traumas since childhood.
A person with a medical condition shouldnt have to die cuz they are too poor to afford helping themselves. Canada has a lot of programs. But none are sufficiently funded. People with medical conditions literally struggle to not become homeless. The country is punishing the poor again. In my homecountry, u can get assisted death as well. I too know people who left our world this way. But it is stricter than Canada. Usually only when u are in deep pain the government will assist you. We luckily almost erased poverty in my country, so nobody asks for assisted death simply cuz they are too poor. That isnt the case in canada unfortunately. Canada somehow created an eat-or-get-eaten mentality like the US in the past 2 decades. There is a woman from toronto that was working full time, got intentionally coughed at during the pandemic, and now she has longcovid that makes it impossible for her to work fulltime to pay her bills. She is askin the government now to help her die. And she shouldnt have to just cuz the government keeps kicking the bucket to the less wealthy or more vulnerable folks. Most of these folks wanna live but poverty makes it hard. Nice day
@@conan.seto995 Poverty has been an issue for all of human history. There will always be poverty. Yes, the government's job should always to be solve issues like that, but at the same time allow people choose their fate. You could always be against assisted dying because economic and medical problems will always exist. But the question is why does the government control your life. We will never fix life's core problems. Just give people the option.
Absolutely. Well said. Clinical depression is the cancer nobody can see. And mental illness can be terminal because it could lead to suicide. So we can't kid ourselves on this issue.
The thing is, if you believe it is, it will be. I thought the same thing. It gets better. You just have to LET yourself get better. As soon as I let go of thinking I was hopeless, I was fine. It just takes time for some people, and that’s okay. That doesn’t mean kill them.
I'm a poor, disabled American with plenty of mental health issues. I know I should feel sad hearing about this, but all I feel is relief that such a program exists close by.
People need better income supports such as a basic income as a floor over which you add disability amounts, better healhcare and so on. This is where we were going before the decoupling of 1971, the neoliberal era, the aggressive clawbacks, and utilitarianism that ensued. This will continue until we change course.
@@sooziedwards4791not socialism. Is Sweden a socialist country? Finland, Norway? A minimal concern for the poor and disabled wouldn't hurt a so called Christian nation.
Option 1: living with mental illness Option 2: death Option 3: being at minimum properly cared for with dignity and omitting poverty and food scarcity and homelessness, or best case scenario, cured isn't an option. It's a wish, a dream, a fantasy. Making people wait for that, when it's not even in the works on any level, is cruel. The suffering is real, and it's now. Other countries have found incredibly appropriate ways to care for, house, feed, give dignity to those with disabilities so the answers are mostly available. It's government and greedy corporations choosing profits over people or wasting tax dollars or starving our Healthcare system of funding. Money is the God that is worshipped in all of North America over anything else. It is humanmade, and it is humankilling. To those corporations and government officials, my message is: just because you can, doesn't mean you should! Find your moral compass and do better. People before profits, always, as a bare minimum for living standards.
I suffer from major depression, anxiety, ptsd/cptsd, adhd and bipolar and borderline personality disorder and I tell you. Having mental health issues alone is mentally, emotionally and physically draining. My family think I’m lazy or I just don’t want to hold down a job but they don’t understand my brain is running 1000 miles an hour all day the moment I wake up to the moment I sleep and they make me hate myself and do things I wish I never did. I feel like a monster during my moments of weakness because I feel like I’m not being heard or listen too or that my feelings are valid. I hate who I am. I self harmed because I was angry at myself for how I would act in my episodes. You can’t force someone to live a life that they didn’t choose to have. You can’t make people stay but if it gives people the peace they have been trying to find then I hope they get the peace they want 💙 ☮️

Thank you for this documentary, it was very revealing. Would you consider doing a new research now that the elegibility for patients with mental illness as a sole underlying condition has been pushed once again, three years this time? It would be interesting to know what Mitchell and other people seeking MAiD because of mental illness think about this recent development.
2 min in i want to say this. Im 47. I wanted to die every single day of my life since the age of 3. Severe physical abuse, rejection and trauma. No real attatchments to ANYONE. I Have not one family member. Raised 3 kids in alcoholism, poverty, PTSD. There are ways to feel better! This is a result of how we treat ourselves. Of course how we were treated as children. We can undo these patterns with a cognitive therapist, excercise, organic foods, fish oil, positive media. Reduce medication as you heal to feel human. Death is not the answer. I haven't thought of dying for the last 8-9 years consistently. I never thought it was possible. NEVER! Trust in something greather than yourself for comfort and love. Spend time giving others what you aren't or have never received. Your here for a reason. I know that for sure❤
It takes years to get a family doctor in Canada, and that's if you can get on a waitlist. However, if you want to die, they can have you dead in 3 months. No family doctor required, they'll even send the experts to access you in your home. I used to be for assisted suicide. Now I'm not too sure. We hit the ' 'slippery slope' at full speed.
I would be very sure. In the USA we are heading towards far worse than living. So we would welcome the option to go out on our terms rather than their sick terms.
@@abdoolidiotsif you looked into mindfulness you’d find that is not “true”. Being in the Now, watching the thoughts and feelings, is the way to help get out of depression. Or it can help some ❤
It infuriates me that there are doctors the world over who push families and patients into "pulling the plug" or getting euthanized - there are straight-up sociopaths in the medical industry. In Canada, there was a woman in her 30s who had MS who kept being pressured by doctors and nurses into MAID. In the US, my mother and I were blackmailed into signing a DNR for my father (which we never did) before they would restart his dialysis and other procedures to prolong his life - they initially brought us in for the express purpose of pulling his plug, and they were angered that we chose not to as my father wanted heroic measures taken to preserve his life.
It’s so crazy how they can say they have a 3 hour assessment with the patient and then they can make decisions about whether to approve the procedure off that. Like how can you understand the entire span of someone’s life and struggles and problems and all the intricacies that come with that in 3 hours? The fact that they just LEFT HER BODY on the bed and coroners came a couple hours later is insane. Just so wrong on so many levels. We are failing our people.
''It's easier to get MAID in some places in the country than a wheelchair.'' Great, now I keep getting ads in my feeds for wheelchairs. AI is such a psychopath.
If we didn’t have millionaires and billionaires, and distributed that wealth more fairly, then people wouldn’t be struggling for their basic needs, and public institutions could have enough money to actually help and support people when they need it. Poverty and loneliness is the main driver here.
So you’re a socialist? Everyone the same, no shooting for the stars, just working with no opportunity for growth. Yeah, even Russia found out that didn’t work!
I feel the pain of those in mental pain . I've gone for so many interviews but have never got a call back from even one company or organisation. There are times when I feel suicidal so I understand how they feel.

Look into islam the only religion god wants us to follow as it is the truth , believe me you will heal from all this. I hope you find peace stay strong for your kids.
It's so strange that the most developed countries suffer the most depression. Assisted suicide? What happened to cyanide pills? In Africa, we don't have such. Poor as we are. Suicide isn't a solution. A spiritual sickness of sorts this. Deny or not... it's not normal. The lady even says , "If she had some people around her, to even talk with her... she can deal with the pain". It's not okay to live alienated lives. In my Zulu Tribe we have an expression " Kuhlekwa noma Kufiwe".. literally meaning we laugh even in death. It's so say, no matter how difficult things get, always find the bright side of it.
@@Loveyourself21072 when I feel sad and suicidal, I left those emotions pass (whether it’s week or years), and then I’m okay. @Chappelroanfan in my language we call sadness "ukudabuka". A heart that is broken. They've tried to adopt the word "depression" to "ukucindezeleka" meaning a heaviness of the heart. A heavy heart is addressed. So it doesn't equate to depression You cant be so sad you want to die. Death is a transition that you can't facilitate to do it is a sin for us. These days suicide is normalized. It isn't normal. Death comes after a long life naturally or death as God sees fit in many ways. We believe in family...unity of people.. Ubuntu. To avoid situations that lead to heavy hearts.
JFC. I suffer from most of these same mental illnesses and have for 45 years. I’ve been very lucky to have the ability to get the kind of treatment that keeps me from wanting to die - family, insurance, disability. I’m in the US. I can’t imagine having the option to kill myself due only to my mental illness.
I have complex PTSD and severe depression. It was well managed when I moved from the US to Canada. So were several other medical conditions. After it took years to access the specialists to keep my physical health stable, my mental health crumbled. Now the psychiatrist says it’s untreatable. I feel like they would rather I kill my self and save the government money. The US system is a mess, but nothing like this.
Rosina’s story makes me particularly sad because of the fact that it was easier for her to end her life than it was for her to access food, proper medical care, an adequate support system, etc. I fear that legalizing MAID will come with major consequences. It should not be easier to access MAID than a wheelchair. If we are going to make this legal, major reform is so necessary. I wish we lived in a world where people who are suffering could have access to a dignified death, but I just fear the risks that come along with legalizing this are far too high. For the vast majority of people, especially those whose illness is solely mental, there is hope.
It’s unfortunate that assisted death is more accessible than services to stay alive, and it seems some people choose it just because they can’t get the help they need.
These are an interesting watch. I am someone who very much enjoys life, I’ve had my times where I’ve been depressed and I was briefly suicidal in the military but after that my life changed for the better. It’s really hard for me to understand why someone would wanna do this but I keep an open mind. Will never judge if someone is just so miserable and In pain they wanna be at peace. Truly heartbreaking.
Yes, don't judge. And keep in mind that there's a difference between situational depression and clinical depression. For instance, you have a breakup and you have some suicidal thoughts. Or a loved one passes away and you can't get a grip... these are situational. They can and do lead to suicide sometimes but usually a person can begin to cope and get better. Clinical depression is more medical. A disease/disorder. So even if it appears a person has everything and has a great life, they are still depressed! And people judge them for it!
Your government has determined that you have no net benefit to society- they want you gone. Cheaper to have you off yourself than help you address issues so you can live. Dollars and cents…. That’s all.
I struggle with depression, my mom also had it and had to take medication. However, I don't think assisted suicide is ethical unless it's for elderly people with a chronic terminal illness and their only prospect is 24/7 assisted nursing home, I.e they can't walk, they can't eat, and they can't go to the bathroom by themselves. My grandma struggled like this for years with terminal cancer and Scleroderma, she didn't deserve to die without dignity. I wish assisted had been an option for her.
I don’t want to be here. But I don’t want to let anyone down either. I just wish i could give my life force to someone who wants, and deserves it. I’m not making this for attention. I guess it’s just nice be honest somewhere.
I would have done MAiD when I was at my worst. Losing my mother to cancer at 15 made me anxious, depressed, suicidal and scared. I’m now 18, soon to turn 19. I am better than before but my family worries about me. I heard they want to extend MAiD to minors. Supposedly if MAiD was available to me at the time, I wouldn’t be here. I would have died without my family knowing
I lost my mother to cancer at about the same age. It was terrible and she suffered so much. I was fortunate to have a good father who kept us all together. Decades later, I can look at the life I've had and can say it was worthwhile, I've had ups and downs, but many adventures. You won't forget your mother, or stop missing her, but know she would want you to live your life as happily as possible. As does your family, hopefilly you'll help each other through difficult times. You have many decades to look forward to, I hope your life will be as happy as your mother would want it to be. Best wishes to you.
As a mother, I would say that your mom surely would not want you to unalive yourself. She would want her son to have a good life. Please get some kind of grief counseling to help with your depression. You are so young and your life will get better!
I wish we had this option here in the States. I never understood why society tries so hard to save people's lives when they don't want to live. It's a very personal matter and a choice to decide for ourselves without being judged.
Good is called evil and evil is called good. Remember not to long ago when helping a depressed person was the right thing?? Now that mental illness is common the enemy (Satan) has put lies in people's minds to make them believe life is not worth living or that we should make the choice to end our life and if anyone tries to stop me they are cruel..don't believe the devil's lies, life is worth living and God wants you to have rest from the constant torment, we just need to repent and surrender to him. We can cast our burdens on God, we were not meant as humas to go through life alone. There is a great light and hope and that light is Jesus ✝️
@marcom238 Don't preach to me about God. I have way more understanding and was personally taught by my our Lord and savior and not through hypocritical teachings of man which is called religion. So spare me of what you think you know about God.
Same, and yet we are supposed to be hopeful. Even in when working at my job 1983-2008 there was little medical help available. The 2008 market crash when i lost everything until 2024 has broken me. Completely understand this gentleman's situation. It always our fault, years of preaching about hope and Feb. 2024 people have been harmed further by the pandemic and the cost of living. How can Canada sit back and double the cost living. Its just horrible. Lots of money to send overseas, and pay crazy bonuses, yet not help our own citizens. Embarrassing, and disgraceful !! 😢
Easier to make you go away then try to help you. This man just said most of his struggle is economic and fear related to that, after everything he just showed and told you. Sounds like he could be helped. They need to focus more on natural things like thc, psilocybin, mdma, etc. Making that available to people who need and want.
Now that assisted dying is legal… and my brother-in-law benefited from it as well as 3 other friends who were suffering intolerably and terminally ill, I am thankful for the help they received and for the opportthey that had to be surrounded by their loved ones while they went on their own terms. On the other hand, loneliness and poverty are not incurable diseases and we as a society need to learn to take care of our most vulnerable and we need to find ways to cure loneliness and poverty. They are the biggest cause of mental illness today and there is NO reason for that. Let’s take action!
I think her friend also failed here why didn’t he go visit her and get her support. She asked him can you come see me he said I can’t . Now he’s happy to come on here like a hero
But he did, he too suffered from fibromyalgia and he did what he could but he too has a life and responsibility. She asked him to come and be with her durinh her being euthanized and he couldn’t do that. He wasn’t mentally able to do it. I can’t fault him for that. He loved her.
@@fermageehamilton1402 so who held her hand in the end for her? I thought he did? Ik it would be hard but I would go. Maybe he couldn't due to religion or something?
This isn’t a criticism of MAID, but rather a searing criticism of the hyper-capitalistic world that we live in. How is it that in a city like Toronto, where billionaires live in multimillion dollar mansions and penthouses units in Downtown, there are people like this lady (the central character of this documentary), or the countless other homeless that die silently on the streets. A society should be judged on how it treats its most vulnerable. I truly hope that one day, future humans will look back on our generation, and think of how barbaric and heartless we are to each other, but that IS true/
Yes, correct. If any of my family's health issues become serious, we'll be applying to die because we have no doctor. I have untreated issues that cause me great pain, including untreated Crohn's disease and Ankylosing Spondylitis. I don't know how much longer I can keep going like this. This doc will shine light on the lack of dignity within our medical systems. And although things will temporarily get better through awareness and shining a light, I don't believe there is a utopia to be achieved. Ultimate care and ideal dignity is most likely not of this world, but in the after.
She was euthanized but in such an undignified way. Why cannot we all come together and give a final send-off with dignity? It is a really messed up, tragic system.

People should have a right to make their own choice. No one is forced by anyone. If you choose to live and suffer in anyway, that is your choice and no one judges you for it. Pain is real whether it's physical or psychological. It's a crime and torture to force someone to live who is suffering and wants to end the suffer.
Wish I could hug all these people. I respect and am glad for MAiD, but it really should be the last option for people who would live if it's possible they could improve their situation. It breaks my heart that people were so alone in their suffering that they decided to end it. Ugh. This world is a harsh, cruel place sometimes.

And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.
20:124
He will say: “O my Lord! Why have you raised me up blind while indeed I had clear sight (before)?”
Allah will say: "Just as Our revelation came to you and you played blind; so are you blind today."
20:125-126
Rest in peace Rosina. I’m so sorry that you couldn’t get the help you needed and deserved

She found out she had Stage 4 lung cancer (very advanced) and metastase everywhere one month and a half ago. She lost all her autonomy in the blink of an eye. She didn't want to wait to be in pain and with no chance to get better, she choose this option. She could not deal with the fact that she had to rely on others for all her needs. last year, a close relative of mine was dying of cancer (untreatable) and they opted for MAID. there was a lot that went into the approval process, but the procedure itself was quick and peaceful. i was there (along with other family members), so i got to see it first hand. the person got control over the end of their life after the disease tried to take that away, and it spared them from possible months of suffering. i hope the MAID option is still available when my time comes.

I’m a nurse too and I totally agree with you
agree with how j laid it out. as long as other resources r provided but it being driven by economics is just not good
I disagree in that people are not getting adequate healthcare.

In some ways it sounds like a terrific idea, but ultimately I tend to think we have to make 100% sure someone is doing this for themselves alone.

The argument is that the government supports medical death, but isn't supporting their other needs before hand.
Nobody should die by themselves, everybody deserves to be loved,

A person shouldn't be forced to live if they dont want to
A person with a medical condition shouldnt have to die cuz they are too poor to afford helping themselves.
Nice day

Absolutely.

Option 1: living with mental illness
Option 2: death
Option 3: being at minimum properly cared for with dignity and omitting poverty and food scarcity and homelessness, or best case scenario, cured isn't an option.
For some reason it hit me in the feels when the medical lady said that no one she's seen had ever opted to say no when faced with death

Africans have more community and spirituality towards nature
JFC. I suffer from most of these same mental illnesses and have for 45 years. I’ve been very lucky to have the ability to get the kind of treatment that keeps me from wanting to die - family, insurance, disability. I’m in the US. I can’t imagine having the option to kill myself due only to my mental illness.
lol what, welcome to the US...
Stop being sad for her she is free rejoice she is FREE!
Would your support their right to do this?
Sad to see how many people just don’t understand the need for something like this. We just want mercy.
I think the the medical community finally understands that some of us dont deserve to just suffer without a choice.
im sick of suffering i had 9 suicide attempts the universe keeps saving me to suffer i just want to be free
Your government has determined that you have no net benefit to society- they want you gone. Cheaper to have you off yourself than help you address issues so you can live. Dollars and cents…. That’s all.
What makes this sad is these people need love and connection. You know society is broken when people choose death due to loneliness.
This video has given me such a massive perspective and appreciation of my own circumstances.
