Whats super cool is that most of this advice works for a lot of things in life. Im a racing game player and i can confidently say I wouldn't be very good if I wasnt always racing my friends
My rival is anyone and everyone that I sit down with to grind out matches. Especially myself, I'm not trying to be better than anyone but myself from yesterday.
As someone who absolutely cannot do well with traditional fighters no matter how much I practice (motion inputs, even simple ones, are generally beyond my capabilities, and I have trouble with directional blocking), even a rival won't help me there. But, I used to casually play Smash and Pokken, and having a rival was really helpful for all the reasons described here. I really need to get back into it and play with my friends more, build a rivalry again since it's been so long.
I agree 100% that you need someone there to motivate you. And who better then a close friend to not just have matches with but make you better at what you love to do. So who's your Rival Javi. Who pushes you to be the best you can be.
@@IHeartJustice Yeah we gotta beat that Lythero in content. Who does he think he is making these epic master cuts from his streams and adding animations. JK JK we love you Javi and what you do.
ive never had a true rival, i was the only dude growing up that liked fighting games as much as i do so ive been kicking it alone on FGs as a result. i definitely feel the message of the plateau since grinding ranked just doesnt hit the same. Its harder to justify the journey. But on the other end, ive been slowly but surely finding people around me that were willing to pick up fighting games, and even if i am the only one who can really grasp the higher level concepts of play and improvement currently and dont have my own "rival" within this group ive built to grow with, ive at least been able to make sure that everyone ive pulled in has someone to play and i can still help them all grow as a group. and its felt just as rewarding. its really helped me look at it from a different perspective, personally tackling issues many have with getting into the genre, and helping these friends stick with the genre.
This is very true. Back in the arcade days of MvC2 our small group were all rivals. We'd roll up every Friday after school and punch it out till the arcade closed at 10. Eveyone came with new tech, new teams or strats and was just fun improving with one another. Got my longest win streek of 49 one night, just on the cab, the one to beat, from when I got there to close. And they were alway close fight sometimes down to the last two. And this was before the gods had really formed and became the norm. So seeing characters like that girl with the bones or the cactus throw down some sause was grand. Some of them went on to be my gaming buddies long past that and too this day we trade blows but for funzies nowadays.
@@IHeartJusticeSuper miss it. Coming around and seeing the level go up. Wondering who would unlock next. What tech your friends would bring? Would they adopt the new character? Will they learn them on the fly? (Most didn't have the home ports/they weren't out yet so training modes weren't available. Any learning was hands on or visiting shoryuken) How did their team change for synergy? And because the game was evolving no metas had a chance to settle. Saw everyone get experimented with rather then what top level mvc2 is now. I even retired a character in my team (Cyclops tho I would break him out for those that only knew the meta and flowcharted that playstyle) cause he was such a strong anchor for me and we wanted to push ourselves. Lead me to my favorite team of Rogue Hyato Strider and the 5 level dump it has for style. Some of the best months in a game I've ever had.
You know what's crazy. I don't even need to watch further than the first statement. It's true. None of my friends want to really be rivals with me and i'm a huge scrub because i play around, but i never have someone to want to take down in particular, so i just don't really sit there and invest as much as i probably would if i had a good friend to play and really learn with. That said, i still love fighting games :v
Honestly it feels so awesome to see my content being used in your video, your match with KBR is my most watched video and I think it's honestly the biggest reason I'm known in the Marvel scene now. Thanks for being a part of my journey my dude.
I remember having a rival bully in a community server that used to be better than me and over time due to having to adapt and have to fight them every time i learned everything from how to fight em eventually being better than him in every way, while we both hated each other i won’t deny… i was motivated and i actually got incredibly good until he got banned for toxicity… and then i got bored and didn’t have a motive to push even if it was me wanting to win over them and prove i was better (i think it was a weird toxic hate train relationship lmao)
Shoutouts to Compton Falcon on Vsav, everytime we play I feel like I improve ten fold and it feels great to come back with new tech and surprise em. If you ever see this bro, thanks for the games homie.
The thing is I do have a rival but we just play fighting games very casually. We not looking to climb ranks or anything, just to have fun. Except he only fucking plays GRAPPLERS!
its interesting how, ive had a rival for quite some time. but its only until after watching this video that i realized they ARE my rival, and after ive realized that i am finally able to grow.
My rival is my friend and most of the time my teacher SpaceDinoPanda. He's always helping me understand mechanics and also is really good at sitting back at times and letting my neurons blast!
I have a rival in one of my best friends since grade 10. They go by the tag "Overdrive" and we've constantly gotten into fighting games at the same time. He tends to be better than me at most games, But there are a few titles I've definitively pushed ahead in.
I’ve been looking for a rival for months and knew i needed one, cuz to be frank i SUCK at fgs, but unfortunately it’s not easy to find one when you also suck at being a person. I can’t just ask someone “want to be my rival?” after playing a few games, and everyone else around me is just so beyond my skill level to even consider asking that in the first place. If you’ve got someone, cherish them, because not everyone can find someone
unironically kinda true i used to play skullgirls with a friend and we'd run hundreds of matches adapting and learning but he kinda moved on from the game and now all my friends play way more casually so i'm both rusty and don't have competition
It just dawned on me how blessed I am to have the friends I do. We're a group of 5 dudes(although 2 of em have moved out) and only 2 of us are deep into fighting games. But whenever we do come together, we're always duking it out in some fighting game, mostly Tekken but there are days when we wanna play other fighting games as well. Anything will do, MvC, GG, BB, Melty, Skullgirls, The Last Blade, Martial Masters, Blade Aurcus, you name it, we've played it. . The other three of em aren't very good, they do not know how neutral works, how to combo, they mess up doing qcfs half the time. But it's always amazing to watch them play, how they adapt to what's going on in the match and that usually brings some of the most intense rounds I have ever witnessed in my life. The other guy, however(the one besides me who is also into fighting games), never fails to keep me on my toes. We randomly met way back in 2016 in the school hallway and opened our conversation with KoF, and the rest is history. It's always a blast to play against him, I get to pick up a lotta knowledge whenever we fight. Playing sets, adapting to his habits and then talking about everything after feels liberating somehow. "Bro, just sideroll Kunimitsu's ff2. What are you laying there for?" "You should NOT have told me that." Me, playing Morrigan, trying to soul fist spam him as his Haggar slowly approaches trying to pipe my girl instills some heavy anxiety into my brain. I treasure these little moments in the group dearly, and while we're not the best at this, it's easy to see that everyone wants to beat the other and I love that. With that being said, great job on the video, man. I can see that a buncha people really connect with this video just like I did and it will certainly connect to more in the future.
I’ve have that rival/villian stances with multiple people I grew up playing fighting games. I play individual games with different friends that they want to be good at (sf, Mk, guilty gear, dbfz, etc) and I can go either toe to toe or dominating match’s. But watching them grow is the greatest thing to see, and I only got this good from getting my ass handed too by my cousin and them teaching and introducing me to the FGC
Dude, you remind of something. I got into fighting because of the shop owner when i was ten, he teach me how to do supers and combos. Quite late but it's a nice vid of how to improve yourself. Cuidese mucho Javi.
I always admired fighting games. Played a lot of FighterZ and GG but mostly just labbed combos and nothing ever stuck. But then I found one guy IRL that plays and it changed everything. Fighting game Veteran. Got my ass handed to me. But it was so fun. I got so motivated to learn tech. I got motivated to learn my win conditions and setplay. I distinctly remember giving up advantage everytime I finally got it, cause I got scared of fucking up my inputs. Im still not all the way there, but these days I can take games and even sometimes sets from him. A rival is so important.
I decided to part ways with a lifelong friend of 15 years late 2022. We shared a lot of interests together and that was VERY apparent in the games we played. He was my Smash Bros rival since the Wii U version and we went to tourneys together… usually to get bopped by the really REALLY good players lmfao. We would spend the night at each other’s house and run matches until 5AM sometimes. When our Friendship ended, I noticed my passion to improve diminished. The hours that I spent in the lab practicing various tech became more and more infrequent. Nowadays I usually dust off my controller if there’s a set up at a social gathering. I really resonated with everything you said in this video Javi! Even though I was an intermediate player (depending on who you ask), I can definitely attest to the benefits of having a rival! Looking forward to the vid :)
My best friend and rival of 7+ years, man. He is the man who I challenged to a 1v1 in Smash 4 against his Captain Falcon, got my ass whooped and wanted to keep fighting him. Became more acquainted with him, adapted, improved. Fast-forward, I get into more fighting games and we really pop off on our fights. He is often a lot more skillful than me, but I always give him a run for his money the more we fight. He is a rival and a friend that I truly cherish. Little Mac VS Captain Falcon (Smash) Cody VS Vega (USF4) Arizona VS Paprika (TFH) No matter the game, us fighting at our peaks will always be a joy to me.
It's hard to think about rivals since I'm usually a menace to so many in FighterZ and I go up against people who have gotten top 100 at evo for said game; but I wouldn't consider them rivals since they're so nice and we just play. There is a few that come to mind, but one man named Rose' stands out among them. He was the one to push me to go to the lab and learn combos, the one who keeps up with FighterZ as much as I, the one who's grown with me the entire way, even learning my habits and silently coaching me through the punishment; as long as I can remember, I've wanted to beat Rose'. After a while we finally started having more even matches and during rollback we experienced a situation of trying to take the other's square with neither of us budging; even when he would win 3 games in a row, I'd win the next 3. I have gotten a pretty good track record as of late with me winning most of our games (and even taking his square) but I'm expecting some push back. Cause I know that man won't just quit, I'm hoping he won't, he's gonna learn my nonsense and win back all those games; I can feel it.
Hard agree with all of this. I didn't know how much a rival motivated me until I looked around and I no longer had one. Used to be my brother, we would do at least 10 matches of Tekken 7 whenever he had time or was around, but more and more he got on with his life while I was content with mine. He moved out, getting married this year, more active in activity planning and his job, and there's just not that same bond between us. We still get on great, but Tekken isn't much of the factor anymore, and I lost my one regular person to throw hands with. Nowadays I just do ranked in games, or try and work up the courage to ask my online friends, but it just ain't the same...
This speaks to me. The only fighting game I've ever been able to get decent at was Skullgirls, and that's solely because I had a friend who pushed me to play him! I learned Cerebella and Big Band and his Squigly and Beowulf never failed to infuriate me into NEEDING to be able to beat him!!! Love the content, yourself and Lythero have made me really love UMVC3!
Just tonigth... one of my frieds in a smaller discord FG that I am just retired from the game... we played so much, yet at the end he decided he can no longer grow or be better, and just left after I beat him again... I felt really sad... and maybe he really neded a rival... Mayba I wasnt that person, but damn I really hope he and more people start finding their rivals to keep growing and feeling more satisfied with themselfs... Thax for the great Video, Justiceman...
So i found out a Mexican friend who plays JP on SF6 and Bison on SFV, i might consider him my rival, he pushed me into SFV and helped me improve with the characters i play in those specific games
A very wholesome video Javi, keep it up my man. I dont play fighters anymore cuz my wrist is all fucked up but i do concur... the fact you get to have someone that may be better than you by your side just to have an attainable goal in sight does makes wonders into pushing yourself a little further beyond
I’ve been playing Strive with a group, three of us are very much head to head in terms of skill which is awesome Having someone I can always have a good set with, exchange tech, try out strategies, and learn with does wonders for my motivation
Honestly I needed this Recently I’ve joined a thing in my college that have smash tourneys and I’ve wanted a way to figure out how to push myself This vid revealed that the answer was in my face all this time cuz I have a friend who is way better at smash than me, I can take a few games off him but he’s really good and knows what he’s doing. The funniest part is that he knows I can do it cuz he knows damn well what I can do cuz he’d always give me tips and sometimes it works when I’m willing to learn and grow (and not be petty). Thanks for the motivational vid IheartJustice
I play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the competitive level. Well, it's been a while, since I've been really busy. But there are some local players that I often go up against, and they give me genuine advice on how to play. One of them outright trains me. Before I met them, everyone was way out of my league. Nowadays, I can run 2-1s with the best players in my region. This advice is absolutely true. Thanks, iHeartJustice, for this fantastic and true advice.
Found my best friend because of asking if a, (at the time), friend of a friend wanted to play Jump Force of all things. Fast forward nearly 5 years and a move across the country; and just this last week he started playing crossplay GGST. Got told by the third friend back then not to play fighting games with him, he was too good the guy said. Shot for shot, hes my Rival, but also a dear friend i wouldnt have if it wasnt for the FGC. I wouldnt have it any other way. Side note, good job on these videos. Been listening at work and its helped get me in the mindset for those GGST sets after a long day. ~Peace be with you all this day~
I actually have a rival, the only guy in my friendgroup who plays fighting games. There was a time where i got 5 of my friends into fgs but they all dropped it. The only one eho sticked to them is now my rival and besides hearing him complain about the fact that his characters are always the hardest and most complex (he ususlly learns 1, tops 2 chars in a roster) its fun
i remember thinking one of my friends was my rival, but in reality, i dont really have a rival when i think on it, cus i never really have anybody that plays, unless its dbfz then its my brother
This is honestly true; I only got good with For Honor after constantly doing duels with someone who was in the top 1% of players for a while. While I'm not a super competitive or high-tier player, I am more than capable of giving even some of the best of the best a hard time getting their dubs, so my skills are nothing to snuff at.
My rival is my cousin, we play mortal kombat 1 together a lot, he mains johnny, and i main omni man, basically the basic info needed is johnny is almost never negative on anything, and after fighting against my cousin for so long i basically have johnny cage on lock, i beat 2 johnny cages online 2-0 in a row, it made me happy.
I’ve had some rivals and it definitely made me a better fighter because of it, great vid. Low key, I wonder if Javi played DOA, cause that would be another rival 😂
You know I always played fighting games with my brother and I found his ticks, I am way better at footsies and he is better at combos/team games so it's less of a matchup thing but more of a whose better at this game thing However I picked up SF6 and this is my first online fighting game. Got humbled and started in iron and slowly rose to platinum. Then I met this guy named DevilMayCry on NA 4. He was a plat Ryu. We've hung out and had huge sets around the 30 match mark. He's slowly learning when to contest armor and Im getting around projectiles and reversals (I dont play characters with invincible reversals). One day he said he didn't want to do ranked because of a lost streak and I pushed him to keep going. Now we both have a secondary that's also plat (he has ken, I have zangief) and we just had another close set I think it was 17-14 but man are those games fun
I don't know if he really considers me a rival but I definitely do. I have a friend that I met in a melty blood server where one day I asked about Tekken cause I got it on sale and it turned out he played it and is quite good at it. So we started playing together and he showed me the ropes and now a less than half a year later I'm somewhat consistently taking rounds and games when before I could barely touch him. Playing with someone I can consider a rival of sorts has allowed me to improve way more than if I tried only improving by playing ranked mode. I was hardstuck low bronze in SF6 but after playing with him in private match a couple times he showed me some things I didn't even think to try improving on and now I'm middle to high silver. maybe not the most improvements to some but for me that was amazing seeing how much better I've gotten in such a short span of time. And I can thank my friend for that :)
My friend only played fighterz on ps4 until he sold it, he eventually bought fighterz on steam and we played together, since then I've been improving, we went from trying goofy shit to try hard every single game and blasting Young Girl A in the background lol
I can totally relate. I have one bud I Match with locally. Online, and now with some local tournaments going on, he kicks my ass via hard training mode practice, and my weird shit trips him up because “why would you ever use that non optimal move?” “Never minus if you’re just not a bitch”. And I don’t think we would have it any other way XD
Dang i really agree with this. I'm really lucky in this regard. My rival has always been my twin brother. We both start a new fighting game together and as you can imagine we end up being at a similar level of skill throughout our sessions, improving more by playing other people. When my family and friends say they don't want to get into fighting games because they're too difficult i wish they did have a rival to try new tech on or a new combo or beating down their bad habits. But like I said, i do feel lucky in that regard. I kinda doubt i would have loved fighting games as much as I do if i didn't have a rival to share the experience with
I think my rival would have to be my best friend. I got him into fighting games through dbfz and we go toe to toe in just about every game we touch. Dbfz, skullgirls, blazblue, Granblue, SF, you name it we play it. We know each others style so well but always find new ways to surprise each other. We’ve done a FT100 before and it was a very close score and took 7+HRs. He’s my best friend, rival, and soon to be coach for when we head to some locals or monthly tournaments
My closest thing to fighting game rival is my friend Subzero7 who I make videos with (he bodies me in Street Fighter on the regular). He's been a great friend to learn where I'm lacking in fundamentals on. As for outside fighting games, the local scene for a TCG I play has given me many friends/rivals to learn from.
Have a friend that just got into fighting games with SF6 and for the first time a had someone to play with locally. He mains JP and I main Gief. After six months, he’s in master, I think im still in Plat, but I know that matchup like the back of my hand. And nothing forces you to learn good clean nuetral like the worst matchup in the game.
I play ssbu, and my school has an esports team for that game, and someone who has pushed me to my absolute limit day in and day out is my teammate colonel, id consider him my rival
@@IHeartJustice Yeah it's really nice, im sad to leave it because I'll be graduating this year, but me and my teammates managed to get to #2 in our state this year so that's a nice note to end on
How do I find a rival though? I can go to my local tournaments and find all sorts of people, and I'm great friends with all of them now, but how do I find my RIVAL?! Will it come naturally? Do I have to ask "Wanna be my rival?" Do I instigate it?
Naw it's a natural thing! not even something they have to agree too it's more an understanding by action. If someone tries harder against you next time in any way, you practice back against them. Return the favor constantly and make it known that you are practice because they are getting better. It'll happen naturally!
In fighting games, your rival is a person you keep fighting with in order to both push yourselves to the limit. In racing games, your rival is consistency. But what about shooter games? 🤔
i don't play any fighter games much anymore other than the occasional dbfz, but ty for making this video because you can really have this mindset towards any game you take seriously. I play the Pokemon VGC and I'm always trying to get friends to play me so I know different matchups and can learn really weird habits from players that you just would not expect when you're just solo queuing on ladder. i'll try to follow your points to a tee(?) and be a better player, ty
I love UMVC3 but i got no rival nor one to play rip i loved playing (trying) phoenix wright, and zero (i personally find them working) well I found phoenix wright can work with chun-li and morrigan (imo) for some reason i can manage some air combos with all of them but i can never adapt to him and i need a rival. But by watching lythero and IHJ and the crew makes me want to go back to playing and actually try and git gud. Love the videos keep it up!
this a great video javi but my rival has far outpaced me in skill now and now he's trying to help me re learn fighting games and i hate how far he looks down on me, regardless i don't have the skill to prove him wrong and it's taking everything in me to not quit fighting games in general. i hate not being able to give him a challenge anymore & it makes me feel like a disgusting human being...
I wouldn't go that far! If he's willing to teach you that means he sees potential in you just like you saw in him! We sometimes fall and lose our pace but you just gotta get back on and approach it with a healthier mindset, this is a chance for you to surprise your rival!
I will forever be bad then since I don't see anyone as a rival. I'm far too casual to improve. And as someone that occasionally plays fighting games ( I only have King of Fighters XIV and have not touched it since B. Janet came out), I would get far too frustrated. So I'm fine being a loser
I'd have to find someone local to play against for an actual, physical FG rival to my own, but as far as online goes, i've been playin some SF6 and a bit of Granblue Rising with my friend Chatdy_ lately. I tend to get frustrated easily, but I wouldn't trade the experience and being able to sess stuff out for anything else in the world. I just hope one day I can learn that losing isn't always a bad thing. :')
All of my friends were my rivals and each learned at a different pace. I love teaching the game so players know some of moves and techniques. Tleloc on MVC2 was an unsuspecting rival and the few games i played with maxilmillian dood on MVC2. I would play online and play fight music like eye of the tiger and you’re the best
I used to have a rival by the name of KitsyKat OfFun however, as things do, life happened. he's a good Clark main in KOFXV that pushed me to improve my Shermie, my K', my Shunei, etc.
I have a rival his name is woolong and we’ve both played jojo all star battle R the day it came out at our local scene. We’ve both played each other fairly regularly and we always had went back in forth trashed talked and shown love and respect to each other it’s great when we both play each other cause it means that our set will always be crazy no matter what happens win or lose we both still trash talk but it’s out of love and respect to each other we both just love being ignorant to each other.
Lmao I only just got to the last part and uhhhhh. FighterZ is hard, so coming into it with Tashomudev as my rival has been pretty cool, especially because he's a ranked grinder, and I'm a labber through and through
ive played strive with 2 good friend who 1. played chipp stopped awhile ago and 2. plays baiken (i know enough of the GoldL v Chip and baiken matchups but they dont play alot) if i do play its mostly getting washed in Garys server 1-25 sometimes but im learning for the boys
Been playing MBAACC for around 2 years and have had a rival of sorts for the last almost year I think? and though there is a massive skill difference between us (Him being slightly worse than I am) my matches with them are the ones in which I get to learn the most by far, and also some of the matches were I have the most fun. We both play Aoko, but different versions of her (Half and Crescent moons respectfully) and though we have different tools we also have copied some of the things the other does almost subconsciously, and the fact that we have both VERY differing playstyles (He plays more zoning and setup oriented, I am a monkey hungry for "tha mix") we both have learnt things WAY outside of what we thought we could do. So yeah, having a rival is fun as fuck!
When I was in highschool (aka last year) I had two friends who played a lot of smash, they became my rivals. I always just played a character I felt like playing online and sweat But with them, I managed to get myself a main, and train that main, to actually go into a tournament with them. I thought I'd be last, I was 10th place out of 24 players I felt really proud of myself Because of my rivals who I could learn their gameplay, and actually improve, I manage to play well in smash and not be as bad as I was before. It's a shame I don't see them anymore because of college
I don’t have a rival but after watching I want one. No one in my family plays games or even fighting games as much as I do which makes me having no one to play with and always having to go through online. Even my friends don’t really play the same games I do, is there a way I can find a rival?
You absolutely can. You just gotta find someone stronger and ask to play them as much as you can, be friendly and offer good matches by working hard to improve yourself after every loss to fight them again
That thumbnail is too good LOL

But on the other end, ive been slowly but surely finding people around me that were willing to pick up fighting games, and even if i am the only one who can really grasp the higher level concepts of play and improvement currently and dont have my own "rival" within this group ive built to grow with, ive at least been able to make sure that everyone ive pulled in has someone to play and i can still help them all grow as a group. and its felt just as rewarding. its really helped me look at it from a different perspective, personally tackling issues many have with getting into the genre, and helping these friends stick with the genre.
That's an amazing read fam good for you and ty for what you do!
Love this, always wanted to see you elaborate more on your threads in this kind of format!
YEYEYEY 2024 BABYYY
Heef! You best believe I'm comin' after you! You and your Goku's have had it good for too long!
Some of them went on to be my gaming buddies long past that and too this day we trade blows but for funzies nowadays.
those must've been the days man, how sick
@@IHeartJusticeSuper miss it.
Coming around and seeing the level go up.
Wondering who would unlock next.
What tech your friends would bring?
Would they adopt the new character?
Will they learn them on the fly? (Most didn't have the home ports/they weren't out yet so training modes weren't available. Any learning was hands on or visiting shoryuken)
How did their team change for synergy?
That said, i still love fighting games :v
fighting games ARE love
Honestly it feels so awesome to see my content being used in your video, your match with KBR is my most watched video and I think it's honestly the biggest reason I'm known in the Marvel scene now. Thanks for being a part of my journey my dude.
aw man that's awesome to hear fam!! you guys held it down keep improving your content I appreciate what you do =D
Friends are lofty, what you need are enemies
lmao
this is what i've been wanting for a long time but the game i play people's egos are wayyy too crazy
word??
I remember having a rival bully in a community server that used to be better than me and over time due to having to adapt and have to fight them every time i learned everything from how to fight em eventually being better than him in every way, while we both hated each other i won’t deny… i was motivated and i actually got incredibly good until he got banned for toxicity… and then i got bored and didn’t have a motive to push even if it was me wanting to win over them and prove i was better (i think it was a weird toxic hate train relationship lmao)
that's heavy LOL but I'm glad you guys pushed yourself as hard as you could
Shoutouts to Compton Falcon on Vsav, everytime we play I feel like I improve ten fold and it feels great to come back with new tech and surprise em. If you ever see this bro, thanks for the games homie.
What an awesome comment
The thing is I do have a rival but we just play fighting games very casually. We not looking to climb ranks or anything, just to have fun. Except he only fucking plays GRAPPLERS!
LOOL I'm so sorry
its interesting how, ive had a rival for quite some time. but its only until after watching this video that i realized they ARE my rival, and after ive realized that i am finally able to grow.
that's amazing to read!
I have a couple and we run long LONG sets together. First to 100s left and right.
My rival is my friend and most of the time my teacher SpaceDinoPanda. He's always helping me understand mechanics and also is really good at sitting back at times and letting my neurons blast!
that's so awesome fam!
I never had a bully or anything.
Maybe my rival is some sort of demon ghost in my brain, embodying depression, anxiety, etc.
that's real
"Zambambos" reminded me of the super best friends 😢
definitely a shoutout
@@IHeartJustice Will have to continue watching your stuff. Have a good one brother 👍
Don't gotta ask let your actions create the answer for you! Be a rival by getting better every time yall play
For a while now I've felt very lost bc the person i considered my one true rival moved away and i lost contact with them.
dang! any chance they might be on social media?
My rival is a per game basis (all my fgc friends play diff games), but its either someone im near equal with, or someone who kicks my ass constantly
hell yea!
unironically kinda true i used to play skullgirls with a friend and we'd run hundreds of matches adapting and learning but he kinda moved on from the game and now all my friends play way more casually so i'm both rusty and don't have competition
glad you had a rival at one point though!
i wish i had a rival i play so many fighting games but no friends who usually have them
start reaching out to good players for games!
I really wish I had friends as into fighting games as I was
find one they might enjoy! meet them there
It just dawned on me how blessed I am to have the friends I do.
I can see that a buncha people really connect with this video just like I did and it will certainly connect to more in the future.
amazing story fam and thank you so much for sharing
I’ve have that rival/villian stances with multiple people I grew up playing fighting games. I play individual games with different friends that they want to be good at (sf, Mk, guilty gear, dbfz, etc) and I can go either toe to toe or dominating match’s. But watching them grow is the greatest thing to see, and I only got this good from getting my ass handed too by my cousin and them teaching and introducing me to the FGC
you gotta lose to learn!
I really gotta suck it up and tell my roommate. "Hey! Bet you can't beat Mr in Sf6 rn." Amd have them go "OK bet."
BETTTTTTTTTTTT
Truer words have never been spoken. Iron sharpens iron people
there ya go!
Dude, you remind of something. I got into fighting because of the shop owner when i was ten, he teach me how to do supers and combos. Quite late but it's a nice vid of how to improve yourself.
Cuidese mucho Javi.
that's awesome to read fam! shoutouts to that guy for sure lol
Well said!
YES YES YES THAT'S IT, HE IS SPITTING, A PARTNER CAN MAKE YOU GROWN SO MUCH STRONGER HE GETS IT
LETS GOOOO
i have no marvel3 rival except the hubris of my evo dreams
mood
Hell yea!! and glad you got to experience that feeling of having a rival
Little Mac VS Captain Falcon (Smash)
Cody VS Vega (USF4)
Arizona VS Paprika (TFH)
No matter the game, us fighting at our peaks will always be a joy to me.
I feel that fam I really do
This speaks to me.
TY SO MUCH THAT'S AWESOME TO READ
Just tonigth... one of my frieds in a smaller discord FG that I am just retired from the game... we played so much, yet at the end he decided he can no longer grow or be better, and just left after I beat him again...
I felt really sad... and maybe he really neded a rival... Mayba I wasnt that person, but damn I really hope he and more people start finding their rivals to keep growing and feeling more satisfied with themselfs...
Thax for the great Video, Justiceman...
ty for your words and your story!
So i found out a Mexican friend who plays JP on SF6 and Bison on SFV, i might consider him my rival, he pushed me into SFV and helped me improve with the characters i play in those specific games
that's awesome to read fam!
A very wholesome video Javi, keep it up my man. I dont play fighters anymore cuz my wrist is all fucked up but i do concur... the fact you get to have someone that may be better than you by your side just to have an attainable goal in sight does makes wonders into pushing yourself a little further beyond
(00:33) Perfect summation to the entire Ace Attorney Franchise.
BASED ATTORNEY
I’ve been playing Strive with a group, three of us are very much head to head in terms of skill which is awesome
Having someone I can always have a good set with, exchange tech, try out strategies, and learn with does wonders for my motivation
it really does!
Great video! and so true. I remember losing to you in Strive made me want to get better. Keep it up big dawg 👏
and you sure did you're a gamer now!
Honestly I needed this
Recently I’ve joined a thing in my college that have smash tourneys and I’ve wanted a way to figure out how to push myself
This vid revealed that the answer was in my face all this time cuz I have a friend who is way better at smash than me, I can take a few games off him but he’s really good and knows what he’s doing. The funniest part is that he knows I can do it cuz he knows damn well what I can do cuz he’d always give me tips and sometimes it works when I’m willing to learn and grow (and not be petty).
Thanks for the motivational vid IheartJustice
That's what I like to see fam. You got this!
Thanks, iHeartJustice, for this fantastic and true advice.
we love to see it fam! good job on the growth =D
This is a very very unrated topic In gaming in General Thank you mr Justice
you are welcome!
~Peace be with you all this day~
what an awesome read fam! really glad you have someone like that in your life
Friends that also play fighting games? Like that'll ever happen!
yea no way!
I actually have a rival, the only guy in my friendgroup who plays fighting games. There was a time where i got 5 of my friends into fgs but they all dropped it. The only one eho sticked to them is now my rival and besides hearing him complain about the fact that his characters are always the hardest and most complex (he ususlly learns 1, tops 2 chars in a roster) its fun
blessss
Well damn, now my salt has some evidence behind it. Thanks lawer man!
i remember thinking one of my friends was my rival, but in reality, i dont really have a rival when i think on it, cus i never really have anybody that plays, unless its dbfz then its my brother
also, a random add, i would actually enjoy just saying i got beat by a phoenix, phoenix is awesome
This is honestly true; I only got good with For Honor after constantly doing duels with someone who was in the top 1% of players for a while.
While I'm not a super competitive or high-tier player, I am more than capable of giving even some of the best of the best a hard time getting their dubs, so my skills are nothing to snuff at.
that's hype! love to see it
My rival is my cousin, we play mortal kombat 1 together a lot, he mains johnny, and i main omni man, basically the basic info needed is johnny is almost never negative on anything, and after fighting against my cousin for so long i basically have johnny cage on lock, i beat 2 johnny cages online 2-0 in a row, it made me happy.
GROWTH
I’ve had some rivals and it definitely made me a better fighter because of it, great vid. Low key, I wonder if Javi played DOA, cause that would be another rival 😂
DOA2 ultimate on the original xbox was my first fighting game I was good at!
@@IHeartJustice Yes!! The classic DOA! Same brother! 👏👏
You know I always played fighting games with my brother and I found his ticks, I am way better at footsies and he is better at combos/team games so it's less of a matchup thing but more of a whose better at this game thing
However I picked up SF6 and this is my first online fighting game.
Hell yea fam!
And I can thank my friend for that :)
that's an amazing read fam!!
Yo, I see you with the Miyata image
Already liked the video, but now i like it even more with all the Hajime no Ippo clips
you already KNOW
My friend only played fighterz on ps4 until he sold it, he eventually bought fighterz on steam and we played together, since then I've been improving, we went from trying goofy shit to try hard every single game and blasting Young Girl A in the background lol
LOL nice
I can totally relate. I have one bud I Match with locally. Online, and now with some local tournaments going on, he kicks my ass via hard training mode practice, and my weird shit trips him up because “why would you ever use that non optimal move?” “Never minus if you’re just not a bitch”. And I don’t think we would have it any other way XD
Hahaha that's great!
I kinda doubt i would have loved fighting games as much as I do if i didn't have a rival to share the experience with
that's so true! gotta find at least one person to share it with to really find that value
I don't really have a *rival* rival as I'm what is reffered to as a "Raid Boss" amongst my friends. I just play too many anime games
RAID BOSSSS
@@IHeartJustice they LITERALLY say "So am I gonna face the raid boss?" When I ask to play lmao.
my prospective rivals just gave up when i got better than them :(
time for new ones!
He’s my best friend, rival, and soon to be coach for when we head to some locals or monthly tournaments
that's awesome to hear!
My closest thing to fighting game rival is my friend Subzero7 who I make videos with (he bodies me in Street Fighter on the regular). He's been a great friend to learn where I'm lacking in fundamentals on. As for outside fighting games, the local scene for a TCG I play has given me many friends/rivals to learn from.
this is awesome to read!
Have a friend that just got into fighting games with SF6 and for the first time a had someone to play with locally. He mains JP and I main Gief. After six months, he’s in master, I think im still in Plat, but I know that matchup like the back of my hand. And nothing forces you to learn good clean nuetral like the worst matchup in the game.
gief - jp is tough!
I play ssbu, and my school has an esports team for that game, and someone who has pushed me to my absolute limit day in and day out is my teammate colonel, id consider him my rival
that's amazing! how sick that your school has a team!
Aim
@@IHeartJustice So that's why I'm stuck in low ranks

i don't play any fighter games much anymore other than the occasional dbfz, but ty for making this video because you can really have this mindset towards any game you take seriously. I play the Pokemon VGC and I'm always trying to get friends to play me so I know different matchups and can learn really weird habits from players that you just would not expect when you're just solo queuing on ladder. i'll try to follow your points to a tee(?) and be a better player, ty
TCG games ftw!

Reason to
this a great video javi but my rival has far outpaced me in skill now and now he's trying to help me re learn fighting games and i hate how far he looks down on me, regardless i don't have the skill to prove him wrong and it's taking everything in me to not quit fighting games in general. i hate not being able to give him a challenge anymore & it makes me feel like a disgusting human being...
So I'm fine being a loser
you dont gotta be a loser! that's just how we get stronger if that's what you want
Honestly the reason I even play fighting games is cause my rival is such a homie
SICK
This video was helpful but i just lack the connections to have a rival for me outside of like one friend who only plays Tekken with me.
who knows you might find one later!
it certainly is not! you got this
Alright, time to convince my friends to play fighting games at 300 ms wish me luck 😔
GOTTA START SOMEWHERE YOU GOT THIS
are you bad because you don’t have a rival? or is it you don’t have a rival because you’re bad?
yes
All of my friends were my rivals and each learned at a different pace. I love teaching the game so players know some of moves and techniques. Tleloc on MVC2 was an unsuspecting rival and the few games i played with maxilmillian dood on MVC2. I would play online and play fight music like eye of the tiger and you’re the best
Mvc2 the goat
You ever get nervous when playing a new player in person? For some reason that happened to me but it was like a nervous excitement 😅
I used to have a rival by the name of KitsyKat OfFun
however, as things do, life happened. he's a good Clark main in KOFXV that pushed me to improve my Shermie, my K', my Shunei, etc.
love to see it
yea. since then tho, ive been searching for someone who can play a good third strike, even if i completely suck at neutral and parrying@@IHeartJustice
That's awesome fam we love to see it!
I have a rival and I'm *still* bad
I'll make a new video for ya+
Lmao I only just got to the last part and uhhhhh. FighterZ is hard, so coming into it with Tashomudev as my rival has been pretty cool, especially because he's a ranked grinder, and I'm a labber through and through
I’m my own rival (I have no enemies)
ive played strive with 2 good friend who 1. played chipp stopped awhile ago and 2. plays baiken (i know enough of the GoldL v Chip and baiken matchups but they dont play alot) if i do play its mostly getting washed in Garys server 1-25 sometimes but im learning for the boys
Hell yea fam keep it up
Been playing MBAACC for around 2 years and have had a rival of sorts for the last almost year I think? and though there is a massive skill difference between us (Him being slightly worse than I am) my matches with them are the ones in which I get to learn the most by far, and also some of the matches were I have the most fun.
I’m taking rival applications
I don’t play any fighting games currently because I’m broke but CMONNN
HAHAH
When I was in highschool (aka last year) I had two friends who played a lot of smash, they became my rivals.
I always just played a character I felt like playing online and sweat
But with them, I managed to get myself a main, and train that main, to actually go into a tournament with them.
I thought I'd be last, I was 10th place out of 24 players I felt really proud of myself
Because of my rivals who I could learn their gameplay, and actually improve, I manage to play well in smash and not be as bad as I was before.
It's a shame I don't see them anymore because of college
10TH OF 24 lesss go!! that's growth fam !
@@IHeartJustice thanks for the advice. I’ll try and do that
