it was pretty freaky cause for the entire game as long as you’re the correct level and use chain attacks correctly it really doesn’t matter much whether you fight monsters with physical or ether attacks so I just used an all-physical party the whole game til I got to that point and when I got there I had to do some serious work on the Ether characters and let them do it..
I played XCX first, didn't beat it. Then I started XC2, didn't get far. Then I played all of XC1, finished XCX and am currently playing XC2. Love this series so much
I generally recommend people start with 1, not because it comes first, but because it's not nearly as overwhelming gameplay mechanics for someone new to the series :) Glad you found your way!

My favorite boss in the game is the first match against Gadolt, because that boss theme hit especially hard against a hallway boss
