  • Henry Jackson Jr. (December 12, 1912 - October 22, 1988) was an American professional boxer and a world boxing champion who fought under the name Henry Armstrong.
Henry Armstrong, a 5-foot-5½ buzzsaw, accomplished what no fighter before or since has ever been able to do -- he simultaneously held three world titles. He managed this unique feat before inflation hit boxing, back when there were only eight weight classes with no junior-this or super-that divisions.
In the first part of Armstong's story, we present his journey into the sport and how early adversity would shape the future and lead to creating a feat that has since never been repeated.

Loved this. If you can find it, Barney Ross's autobiography 'Monkey on my back' is a great book. I read it 30+ years ago. The monkey on his back refers to his morphine addiction due to injuries suffered in WW2. Ross's fights with Jimmy McClarnin are some of the most brutal in ring history. Hard men in hard times.

So lightweight was the THIRD title he won in his historic Triple Crown run. Had always assumed it was the second.
