I've updated and rebound my swatch books. :) I've added in swatch pages for media that I recently purchased and removed some pages for media that I don't use (or at least don't use very often). I love looking through the finished project - it's just so colourful and it helps to remind me of supplies that I own that I haven't pulled out in a while (but definitely should!).
If you like long, chatty, rambling videos, grab something to sip and something to nibble on and join me!

I also like your long chatty videos. They are like asmr to me. I watch multiple times when I color or nap 😊
So glad you like them! :)
I like to see how other creative people do their swatches
Glad you enjoyed it! (Although I don't know how creative I am. ;) :))
I love your swatches videos. I also find swatching and organising really relaxing
So glad you liked it! :)
Thank you for this, I loved seeing your swatches & hearing your thoughts
So glad you enjoyed it! :)
Really enjoyed looking through your Swatch books, it's helpful to see different colour ranges. I love water based markers but you don't see many RUclips vids on them, I like using them on detailed mandala's so fun x thank you for sharing x
So glad you enjoyed it! :)
Great video Connie! I’m inspired to re-vamp my swatching process! And those Mark Art pencils are intriguing me…
Glad you liked the video!
Interesting note - I just went to check on the MarkArt pencils on Amazon and it looks like they may be discontinuing them (or at least the 120 set). That's too bad - they are a really nice budget pencil. Amazon US no longer has the 120 set listed for sale but they do have the 48 and 72 sets. Amazon CA still has the 72 and 120 sets listed but the 120 set is from a 3rd party seller that is known for selling things that have been discontinued for much higher prices. Sad!
@@colouringchemist Booooooo! Oh well! I do like my Arrtx for a budget set…but Poly’s are my fave. Open stock is the way to go. I’m headed out your way for a hockey tournament next month…you always say you live in the middle of nowhere in Central Canada - and I’m headed to Flin Flon Manitoba!! LOL. And it’s pretty much in the middle of nowhere!
Have fun in Flin Flon! :)
Great swatches-so neat and tidy. I did something similar but in a binder. I also had to do a smaller version to keep with each set, lol. I did find that in doing this process, it was exciting to use each product again.
Totally agree! "Finding" supplies that I had almost forgotten I had has helped to subdue the "want monster" from buying new supplies - I found "new" supplies in my own collection :). A binder is also a great way to organize and keep swatches!
I have fallen in love with the Pitt and Staedtler pigment brush pens. I had a set of 12 pastel Pitt pens but had never really used them. After seeing your use of pigment pens I used them and had to have every one out there. I will blame you for these purchases. So glad I saw your videos.
So glad you like them - I'll take the blame. ;) :)
I just released two videos on how I organize, store, and use the Pitt Pens and the Staedtler pigment brush pens - you might find those interesting!
So cool. I’m using a disc bound journal as my swatch “book”. I am still thinking about changing to something else, but haven’t yet found the perfect solution. It’s also an excuse for me to swatch everything again. I’m so left brained. 😂
Swatching is very, very fun (says another very left-brained person :)).
I’m listening to your video as I’m coloring and I had to laugh out loud when you berated yourself for not needing the Arteza markers. I’ve had those kind of conversations with myself as well. 😂😂😂
I berate myself for all kinds of things! :) :)
Colour with Claire has a video where she shows how she puts her pencils in color order. Colour my world also has a good video with how to put pencils in color family order using the color wheel. Need a 18 color wheel chart to make it easy. I am new to coloring and also have found that I like swatching. I do enjoy watching your videos,.
Thanks for the suggestions! I do have a colour wheel but I'm still training my eye to pick up on subtle differences in tones (does a colour lean cooler or warmer - stuff like that). Glad you're liking the videos - thanks for watching! :)
I would love to see a comparison between your Aen glitter gel pens and the tanmint. I am curious which you think is better and the color scheme differences.
Ah - I forgot to put a swatch chart for the Aen pens in my book, didn't I? Oops! :) Ah well - maybe in the next round of swatch book organizing. :) I can certainly make a note of that video idea and I'll see what I can do - thanks for suggesting it!
Cheers loved listening/watching this whilst i was swatching.my oencils - still not done. Am trying to separate out between out. so pencils and pastels and crayond. then markers watercolours etc then all my oils and acrylics. thank you.
Glad you liked it! Happy swatching! :)
Ooohhh, part 2 ❤!
Glad you like it! :)
That's a lot of pencil to swatch, the dedication tho! Connie, I would like to make a request base on your extensive color pencil experience: Can you compare all the pencil hardness and put in a some sort of scale, chart or graph..? I got confuse when people say "Soft as Prisma" or "Softer than Poly" or "Harder than Poly"... I have no experience with most pencil like many of the Derwent line and Caran D'ache, and I already regretting bought Derwent Artist online not knowing it's harder than Poly and Procolour seems very tempting... At least some sort of visual guides from an experience person would be a huge help!
I can certainly see what I can do in terms of a video like that! I recently watched a video from a lovely artist in the UK called Helen Cryer and she did a pencil comparison video a while back where she put some different pencil brands on a two-factor kind of scale. She talked about whether they were hard or soft but also whether they were dry or creamy. I think that's genius. :) Here's a link to her video - hope you find it helpful! ruclips.net/video/Dsyqgqw8spY/видео.htmlsi=5uXZ3d_xn6eqfsBk&t=624
@@colouringchemist I did watch her video, that's where the idea came from actually (and the reason I ditch Derwent Artist and bought Coloursoft instead)! However, I wish the graph expand more... like each time new product review, new info to be added to the graph and keep updating.
@@hazimmusa2448 Sorry for the delay in responding! I wanted to check with Helen to see if she would be ok with me borrowing her graph concept and expanding on it and she has most graciously agreed. :) I'll see if I can get started on putting together something. I'm not a coloured pencil expert, though, so folks should keep that in mind when I'm judging pencils. :)
Can you link to the wire coils you used instead of proclivk as I'm looking for other options that will work with proclivk punch
There are different sizes available - these are the largest and the ones I used for my swatch books: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0BBG2DLD3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hope that helps! :)
Hi, Connie. There are Std Karat Aquarell pencils in European Amazon sites: Germany, Spain... They sell them in sets and also open stock (6 pencils in a pack). The price for 60 set is like the Wall Street at rush hour: 100€ one day, 53€ the next. The price for open stock 6 pack is between 4€ and 15€. I think it depends if the colors are matching with the Std Design Journey 48 set of watercolor pencils. The 12 colors that are missing in the Design Journey are the priciest. I have some spares of Karat and they perform just the same as the Design Journey, so for me they are exactly the same pencils. Although the difference in price is brutal. 48 set of Design Journey = 20€ (for 48 Karat that is above 60€). I love my DJ, they are smooth and pigmented.
BTW, I'm also a swatching freak, :D and I enjoyed every minute of your video. This could be your new Easter tradition, :P. Thank you for sharing. Happy Easter!
Thank you so much for the tip! If I need another back-up set, I'll know where to look! :) And that's interesting about the similarities with the Design Journey pencils - I don't own any of those but it sounds like it would be a neat comparison to try.
So glad you liked the video - happy swatching! :)
