Aaron, nice demo on the SU methods to mirror objects!
I recently discovered that mirroring a copy of a component is a great way to create left- and right-handed parts. My project was a chest of drawers. The left and right sides of the chest had several features for locating drawer dividers, runners, etc. It was great fun to copy the basic left side component and mirror it to create the right side component. After that, everything I did to the left side appeared on the right side ... only as a mirror image!
Lots of furniture projects I do have left- and right-handed parts. This will cut my design time for them nearly in half.

CTRL + C on the component, then PAST IN PLACE, then SCALE and flip the component for the direction that you want
    it's faster if you make a shortcut for PAST IN PLACE. I use CTRL + B because it's a natural progression from CTRL + X C V

Just comment on the paste in place shortcut. Other applications such as Photoshop is Ctrl + Shift + V. So that would actually make a bit more sense.

Here I suggest a plugin for mirroring geometry using another input methods: www.eltallerconstructor.com/csr-mirror-sketchup-plugin/
