After my plunge into the alternate reality of machining. I became aware of just how deep this rabbit hole goes, basically as far as I want to expand my knowledge and refine my skills. Your videos have been informative and entertaining. The skills and knowledge you and other creators of this genre share are beacons I strive to reach and possibly "maybe" one day surpass. Thanks for sharing this type of content. Albert Einstein said “The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.” A quote I remember every day. The Tx is for Texas. Thanks for Sharing, have a great day !

I ended up fabricating a set of spurs and got into tree climbing for limbing and felling around the property. I've never tried climbing up a rock face or anything like that. I've seen videos of it and it looks like a ton of fun.

combine all available gears by brute force.
sort out all impossible combinations: coliding with some internal parts, if one gear has a number of teeth, another must at least that big and so on.
finaly sort all combinations by the overall gear ratio and take the gears of this combination.

that was a nice change to your normal output a glimpse behind the screens so to speak well done . just a point ref. the question about quick reverse on your lath with a braking resistor on the VFD , maybe a disclaimer for the few of us that use a screw on chuck , stopping the motor that fast will spin off the chuck ( my lathe has a lock of sorts but would not trust it ) I do use a VFD but I get the required reversal with a dog clutch in the feed screw chain match like the Hardinge used it also gives the option to use stops ( it a design fro G Meek Esq)

I was surprised about Fluid Film. I expected the lanolin to smell like wet sheep too, but the aerosol FF smells almost like artificial apple candy flavoring tastes. I think it's the combination of the lanolin smell and the tang from the calcium sulfonate (odor of gear oil). If I lean into that illusion, I actually kind of like it.

Linuxcnc still runs a realtime thread within the computer - because it is still the motion controller and communicates in realtime to the external mesa hardware.

Stefan, I'm so pleased to hear that you are a fan of the real, original, Star Trek. I watched it first on a VHF TV, 425 lines, black and white (of course) not colour. As far as I'm concerned, THAT was Star Trek and I've avoided everything that came afterwards out of a weird sense of loyalty to the original version. I was delighted to find that one can now watch it in colour (!) in a remastered higher-definition format (425 lines was a bit grainy, although we didn't know it at the time) and it remains amazing. People grumble that the rocks are obviously polystyrene; the special effects are crude and so-on and so-forth. They miss the point about theatre: one suspends disbelief. It's the story and the way in which it is told that matters. It was so sad to hear of Nichelle Nichols' passing - she was my heart-throb when I was nine.... Why have I never sent you such a long message about machining? Because I'm a complete amateur and I have very little to say other than "Oh, thank you" . But Star Trek, real, proper, James T Kirk and Spock Star Trek? That's part of my formative years. I could blether about it 'til the cows come home. Live long, and prosper.

As a woodworker and lousy machinist, I recommend that you replace the hose from the cyclone to the festool vac with a smooth bore hose of maximum diameter. It really is worth quite a bit of extra CFM. The Smooth bore tapered festool hoses are also pretty nice for shop vac stuff because the taper makes it difficult for stringy chips like drill chips to get slurped up. They make a 36-40mm tapered hose for their bigger tools like the drywall sander.

Yes! The whole setup of balance of terror is very nautical. It feeeeels like a standoff between two marine vessels.

TOS also has episodes that amongst the worst television I've ever seen. And I saw them when they were new. The William Shattner school of overacting at its finest.

Hey Stefan, thanks for answering my question on gaming and going into detail on it.
If you'd ever need a portal2 partner in science, it would sure be fun to puzzle through some brain teasers with you.
    Cheers, Michael

Freecad has really come around. It has only taken me 10 years to be proficient in it.

Suggestion, you have the equipment, build yourself a gasifirer for a small auto to use for local trips about your Stadt. Undermine the Russian oil shackle on Germany. So it is a little bigger than your thumb.:)

Regarding the whole windows linux thing , I am really impressed with windows WSL. I have a full Kali desktop running alongside windows and it is pretty seamless,. I can open windows apps "in linux" and vice versa, seamlessly. It might not be what you want but I really like it.
